There was Brisbane Bears before us. 1986 they joined. yes less controllable perhaps as privalty owned. but whatever issues they had the fixed it and won 3 in a row!!!
A number of Fitzroy players plus a gun father son helps a lot.

That is my position.
The media pressure for a Tasmanian team, along with all those memberships for the lulz counts made the public relations a nightmare on it - so they put a requirement on getting the team outside of the AFL's control to make someone else the bad guy when the prospect of a $30m a year money hole didn't go forward.
The AFL will have to front perhaps a quarter of a billion dollars before Tasmania is able to stand on it's own, assuming their plan is an even fixture so teams don't have byes every week to accommodate the odd number of sides.
They want the state of Tasmania to bleed too if they want it. Tie the political hands to the giant financial bolder so their politicians are stuck with it and will contribute money to keep the team going if their attendances or memberships flatten out into being another burden of a club like North/Melbourne/St Kilda etc.
If the political situation in Tasmania blocks the stadium and the team the AFL get to walk away saving a fortune having "tried", but oh well, sorry, better luck next time.
And the entire competition will breathe a massive sigh of relief at not losing their players.
It will cost $2B.1.3 billion for a 20-25k stadium… AFL just love getting handouts and doing **** all for infrastructure and the community

By fortune you probably mean they won’t be able to increase capacity so they'll need to knock it down and start again.I think that capacity is way too low and it'll cost a fortune to increase the capacity.
Does it?Just means less money for heartland footy states like WA and SA
Smaller than Rory Lobb's?Tassie is as heartland as WA it's just the size of the heart is smaller
WAFC can die for all I care. A state football corporation is so hilarious. The WAFC was getting millions handed to them by the state government to set up grant funds as recently as last year that I can see. Sure, Indian Pacific has a lot of assets on the books but if they had hired a fund manager over the last ten years that would be making more money for the "club" than football operations and then the government would hold it's hand out for a share of money the other direction.

Tbh given the population of Tasmania and that a large part of that population is in the north of Tasmania the capacity will be more than enough unless they play one of the big Victorian sides.
Can't answer the first half, but the Pies will play there year one and then about once every ten years. If that.I think the most interesting thing about Tazzie is will the AFL attempt to gift them a premiership with concessions like GWS & GC or will they treat them like us and say already a football state with guaranteed full house so suffer in yer jocks.
Or even, how many years will elapse before Collingwood are made to play there if ever while we get double ups with them every year? Does Nick Daicos or even anyone in the Pies know where Tasmania is?
Still think they'll have some games in Launceston. That's the thing they can't just add or knock down a stand to increase capacity. Once the roof is on it's very tough to make changes.
I don't know how they can spend 1.3bn on a new stadium then play half their games at an inferior stadium in Launceston. I think in time a decision will be made to play all games in Hobart to make it viable. The people from Launceston will have to get over it and they'll travel for games.
Either that or the big Vic teams will play in Hobart & teams with smaller travelling supporter groups like Dockers will get dumped with the Launceston games.
What exactly do you mean by “draw more money”?On balance they would prefer Freo be stronger than the small 4 Melbourne clubs at the very least, as we draw so many more eyes.
Tbh we probably draw more money than the mid tier Melbourne teams like Geelong and Hawthorn too, but since many of the admin are Geelong and Hawthorn supporters they wouldn't see it that way.
Our home crowds are bigger and being in WA we get big sponsorship $ from resources companiesWhat exactly do you mean by “draw more money”?
