The no premiership is the brutal part for Saints supporters. The wooden spoons are good for banter but largely irrelevant, I mean 2/3rds of them were before my parents were born. Last 30 odd years North, Melbourne, Sydney, Richmond, Carlton, Brisbane, Gold Coast, GWS, West Coast have all won the same or more spoons than the Saints.

That retirement team starting to look strong...
Bit different to the end of the 1971 season - only 3 retired - or 3 top liners

Billy Goggin from Geelong - Serge Silvagni from Carlton - and there was one other one who ive forgotten

And the only reason i can remember that - is Goggin ,Silvagni and the other bloke at the 1971 GF - either before the start of the game or at h/time - in their full football gear - club jumpers etc - they ran a lap of honour together around the MCG

Watching Footy Crappified, to no surprise according to Caro Geelong sending people over to talk to Boak was bad, Port were on their knees as a club and it was a bad thing for our club to do.
But Port speaking to Grundy? Good on them, well done, totally not the same thing (it absolutely is).

That said, Caro tee'ing off on Hardwick, guess she can fire at him with everything she had to bottle up while he was at her Tigers.

She probably does think that too. Like she's contributed close to 1% to that club that Hardwick has.

As usual the only constant is hypocrisy.

My club does something (trade, go interstate to recruit players) = good. We're aggressive and successful.
Other club does something (trade, go interstate to recruit players) = bad. They're sneaky and two-faced.

Change club names as appropriate.

She has always had difficulty in handling the conflict of interest between her roles as a journalist and as a decades-long player in the internal politics of Richmond; in fact, she generally hasn't even bothered to try handling it.

Toe poke >>>>> all.

Also Stephen Milne's bounce should be up there :tearsofjoy:

What idiot came up with these? Lol. Surely Leo Barry's mark, Nick Davis, and the Scarlo toe poke all feature?

Bizarre list.
Exactly what I was thinking. Also you'd have to take Martin's 2020 grand final goals over Lambert's in the prelim. Maybe the latter being closer swung it.

Others: Ablett's match winning goal in the '07 prelim classic. Voss dishing off a goal after Burns bump in the '02 grand final and getting in his face. The Yates bump and Derm toughing it out and/or GAS' 9 goals in '89. The conclusion to the '94 Cats/Roos prelim. Dew's burst in the '08 grand final. There's more.

My god that final's series was just classic. I was at the Footscray and North games but missed the Carlton one.

No love for the Corey smother or the Ottens run down tackle in 07? The Rooke run down tackle in 2009? The Varcoe coast to coast gut run to score the goal against the Pies in 11?
I can understand wanted to put the spotlight on other moments that aren't as well known or as big as things like the Scarlo toe poke, the Shaw smother, etc.

But you have things in that list that are "moments" and others that are "player has big match performance".

Like pick a topic and stick to it. Plus why the weird selection of teams?
GWS x3
Essendon
WCE
Collingwood x3
WBD x2
Carlton x2
Adelaide
North Melbourne
Richmond
Fremantle

Most of these aren't even "moments". GWS withstanding the Pies making a run in 2019 isn't a "moment". Cox kicking 3 against WCE in 2020 EF isn't a "moment" and none of his goals were memorable.
8th placed Essendon knock off the Dees in 2004, and yet the next week Hird kicks one of the best goals in his career against Geelong in the SF. Why not use that?
What a shit list.

Maccas honestly should have just gone to r/afl and put up a thread called "Your clubs best finals moment" and stolen from that.

What a s**t list.

Following their lead, something like Hawkins kicking 3 in the last to almost get us over the line against a North side that had been all over us in the SF in 2014 could qualify, or just that North were the first side in a number of years to knock off a top 4 side in an SF despite those efforts of Hawkins.

I also don't think Hill's goal is at all "underrated". I think many consider that to be a pretty prominent moment, and certainly it would be just about Dockers fans' most memorable finals moment of all time.

4 of our 5 played only a single game

Without their injury concerns I expect that we would have seen more games from both Jhye & Toby though - hopefully we see strong pre-seasons from both, and many more games in 2024

Whyte we did seem to throw to the wolves somewhat - debuting as sub in a loss & playing from the back pocket, didn't really allow him an opportunity to show too much in his 15/20 minutes of game time
