More Ross Lyon and Saints magic

I fear what the Saints are becoming :tearsofjoy:

The saints: we’re not going to be walked over
Also the saints after starting contract negotiations earlier in the year at $800kpa: here is over $2mpa NAS, pls stay

Everyone throws.Either enforce it or change the rules
Yes, our Lions have also finally joined the club.
You get picked up for it occasionally but just run the risk.
Anything very obvious usually gets picked up though.

This Rankine decision is getting farcical and it’s all being set up for the AFL to justify a soft sentence.

Adelaide arguing that finals games should be weighted differently therefore a smaller penalty; claiming Houston having a go at him for his hit on Rankine whilst at Port upset him and a few Pies players saying “stretcher” was mitigating in him reacting.

It will be a joke if that grub doesn’t get a minimum 5-6 weeks and the whole let’s now feel sorry for Rankine rhetoric going on is pathetic after he single handedly changed Starc’s potential earning power and livelihood is now severely compromised.

Bringing up Houston who received a fully franked penalty and missed all of finals last year while also pleading for finals to be weighted is an interesting strategy, let see how it pans out for them

I know right, it’s a joke.

Now they are citing that he is contrite and is worthy of a discount.

Compare that to say Jack Graham who took full ownership of it immediately, was contrite, self reported, immediately contacted his club and the player he said those words to and got a discount from 5 down to 4 weeks.

But for Adelaide to now say that Rankines actions are akin to extenuating circumstances in a kind of it’s justifiable because words were said to him is the very opposite of taking ownership and not saying anything until he was caught is completely undeserving of anything but a minimum of six week suspension.

Old Eddie McGuire reckons it’s 5 weeks. Or so he apparently just said on whatever show he’s on.

So Rankin was disturbed about Houston's taunt, but he did an even worse hit on Starcevich off the ball. Hope he doesn't sledge Starcevich on the future.
As an aside, there are few incidents I will always remember. Like when I think about Cameron from the Cats I just remember his sicking elbow to head of Andrews when he played for the Giants. It was one of those incidents in football where I was genuinely worried about his health. Same with Steven May on Steph Martin.

I have disliked Cameron intensely after that hit on Harris , I didn’t think he would ever get up , was awful .
I was at the game when May lined up Steph also , same thing .

Hopefully Rankin gets his long awaited karma .

That Jeremy Cameron hit on Harris was one of the worst I have seen, IMO it was a deliberate elbow to the head and could have just about killed Harris, IIRC he suffered bleeding on the brain. Cameron got 4-5 weeks? Should have been double that.

Yeah totally agree, that one and the Stef Martin assault were the worst two incidents I can think of in my time watching football in person

Wasn't the guy concussed?

Concussion + high contact + unnecessary contact = 3 weeks
The outcome system basically demands this.

Hardest piece to understand is that he played on for another ~15 mins or so after the bump before being subbed out. We know there can be delayed symptoms but it does feel like they could have argued another incident impacting him

Yeah and fans just have to be content with the end goal is for players to err on the side of caution in these situations. The AFL would rather they avoid contact even if it hurts their teams performance.

Always seems to be the Victorian stars that beat these charges...
Bont getting off for a late high hit that fractured a larynx because the AFL could not be arsed waiting two hours more for a medical report was another classic.
