Everyone who watched Sunday's game heard our wonderful fans. The Boomer chant and the loud rendition of Join in the Chorus was awesome - it even got a compliment from the commentators. As for our fans in Melbourne, you do hear the cheer squad occasionally but it's usually nothing more than "North Melbourne *clap clap clap*". Now I realise we're never going to be like the Premier League clubs or the Barmy Army but we can do better than that. Where's the creativity?

I think as a start we can at least make a chant for Boomer. I was thinking a bit like the Cooolingwoooood, Cooollingwoood, (or Freeeoo, Freeeoo) chant, just simply Boooomer, Boooomer. I reckon most of the North End would join in that and it would sound great.

There should be a thread on here to discuss any ideas we have.

Oh Michael Firrito! Oh Michael Firrito! Oh Michael Firrito!

7 Nation army is the song. Could be simple enough and well known enough to get going

Ooooooh Boomer Harvey,
He's a midfielder,
He's ****ing class..............
He's 5 foot 4 and leaves defenders in the heap,
He kicks all the goals, and his team mates call him cheap.

I dream of these type of chants but baby steps I think is the only way to go. Love your lyrics though!

Nice idea but we've done these threads before. In the end the only way to change things is to be prepared to rock up every banner-making night and every game and become one of the people who make those decisions. Hopefully some of the Melbourne cheer squad were in WA and bring back some energy for the task.

Can I say that I respect the Cheer squad a lot. Took a few of my mates to a North game against interstate opposition and they were all saying it will be shit atmosphere etc all of them were amazed at the noise and colour of the North End and how loud our fans were in general.

But we CAN do better.

Put it this way. We've all been to games where the crowd actually spurs the players on to win. We talk about 'fortresses' and home crowd advantages. We know that the crowd influences everyone on that field (umpires included). In other words, every now and then when the game is in the balance, the crowd can actually contributed to whether the team wins or loses! If we so badly want our team to win, (and we do) why do people sit there silently, leave early, boo or bronx cheer the team? It makes no sense.

I also realise that it's a bit scary trying to start a chant for a lot of people. But we can't be embarrassed, a few beverages can help I think.

one of my favourite north moments being a part of that.

And being such a big EPL fan, i would love to see chants happening. But it will never happen properly with opposition fans being able to sit amongst each other at the games.

Yes, that's why the WA fans were able to get all their chants going - they were all together.

Which in the end is a good thing. Better that fans from different teams are able to sit next to each other without starting wars like the soccer. I'm an EPL fan too, but much rather the seating arrangements of the AFL than the EPL.

That probably best describes my situation. I'd love to be apart of some of these really cool chants but I usually sit on the wing in amongst fellow roos AND opposition supporters. If I was in say the cheer squad then yeah no problem, but rarely do I sit in an area that's that one sided our way. I think a lot of people would want to chant and would join in if there was say a large dedicated group in the stands who continuously chanted, and that wasn't the cheer squad.

Yeah ultimately it's for the best. I don't want total fan segregation, that would be a disaster. But there should be a descriptor on your membership saying "this is the membership for the supporters who want to chant and make lots of noise" and then sit them all together.

I also want to stress that I don't want us to simply want to copy the EPL. We have our own unique culture here. Nowhere else has banners, nowhere else has floggers at either end of the field, nowhere else in the world will you hear a whole stadium simultaneously all shout BALLL seemingly at random points in the game (for the outside observer), nowhere else do players and fans alike sing the club song. We've got our own supporter culture that we can be proud of. However, that's not to say we can't take a few elements from European (and American) active support.

I know. You end up feeling like an idiot if you start a chant and nobody joins in and then they all look at you.

I reckon there is other ways to do it.

It would require someone to canvas every Aisle on the members wing for volunteers.

Those volunteers then Co-ordinate chants down the wing.

there is a disconnect between the cheersquad and where the majority of the members sit.

I would happily put my hand up for Aisle 38.

Once volunteers are sorted, on a designated game hand out/place flyers on the seats with chants on them,

throughout the game the volunteers then lead the chants.

Baby steps people. How about we teach our supporters to jump out of their seat when something significant happens first.

I do this and then the old dears behind me tell me off for doing this.

"obstructing their view"

Nothing is worse than that. I love the old ladies at the footy but footy is first and foremost a place to jump around like an idiot.

I love that!! Joy division. That's brilliant!

Its a complete rip off of the Man U - "Giggs, Giggs will tear you apart again" chant. But it would work.
