thats a "sloppy" tackle perhaps you should learn to tackle the player better. Thomas selwood just got to the ball first and port norf got there second.

Now I have had time to look at the tape a bit longer. there is no point highlighting a still shot, that can mean anything you want it to mean depending when you stop. A shot a split second later would show a different picture. it seems to me that Selwood braces, hopes for high contact (no option really) but there is none there. My general view was that Black kicked it before he should have and it went out of bounds. I didn't/don't see a free kick, but I suppose I haven't seen the rest of the game. If that was a free kick then I suppose each time a player was tackled with an arm on the shoulder it was a free which would be a different interpretation to the other games I've seen this year that have been pretty well umpired. I haven't had time to look at the stats but there must have been a lot of free kicks in the game if it was fair.

They might have been looking for the wrong thing. As I said, more angles are needed.

I suspect the tackler made high contact initially that was declared a duck and OK, his arm then fell loose and he made high contact again on the ground - hence the umpire saying it was the 2nd one.

They saw the slow mo angle of Swallow coming in second.

He missed Sellwoods head by two feet!!!!

If Port had blokes like Swallow, Ziebell and Cunnington putting their bodies on the line the free kick count might have been closer.

End of the day too many Port players were beaten regardless of umpring.

Who says the free kick count has to be even?
Obviously Port were playing undisciplined footy.

Laying fewer sloppy tackles would have helped Port a lot.

I saw what they were looking at and watched it a bunch of times.

I'm saying that I think Swallow is irrelevant, the contact was made by the tackler a second time. They shouldn't have been watching Swallow.

Instead of going hammer and tongs to win it fairly they resort to the tackle equivalent of diving by collapsing at the knees or diving headfirst into the tacklers arms to get the last two goals.

Adams made the second contact. His initial contact was OK, his arm fell loose and he wrapped him up over his shoulder again whilst on the ground I suspect.

The free shouldn't have been paid. I don't think it is in the spirit of the game for someone to gather the ball and go directly for a free kick without even assessing the alternatives. It shows that the player doesn't have the skill to be competent without going for frees. It is why West Coast will not make a grand final with their current midfield and it is why I will not recognise Lindsay Thomas as a quality player until he cuts that shit out of his game. These types of players are one trick ponies and are found out in finals time when the whistle is largely put away for this kind of stuff. I wouldn't want to be carrying a player like Thomas into an important game because he is selfish (see Wright's set shot) and contributes very little to the team outside his free kick milking.

So I do not agree that the Selwood free should have been paid and I don't care that he was caught around the neck. However, I cannot show sympathy towards a supporter group who have defended a one dimensional, whining free kick milker to the high heavens when something similarly happens and negatively affects their team and they start complaining.
