North Robbed

Why do North Melbourne fans continue to talk themselves up as a good football team. If you take away the port "win" they are sitting 2-6.

They have nothing to complain about this week, free was there.

If you take away the Bulldogs and Brisbane win, we're 0-8.

Actually if you take away Carlton's 16 flags they're less successful than St Kilda. You should start a thread about it.

Even if he did play for it (really don't like the Selwoods), it was there.
this is were the rules stink (ducking or trying to milk a free) should constitute prior opportunity and the tackler shound be looked after if the ball is not correctly moved on.

Lol what?!?!

The umpiring was pretty good in the first half, but in the 3rd qtr they went into full on eagles supporter mode, and that final free kick from a typical Selwood cheat was just disgraceful.

Good luck finding a single non-eagle supporter who thinks North had the better of the umpiring.

Too right. I don't support either team and get sick and tired of one-sided comments from those with vested interests. I try to be fair even when it involves my side - sadly rarely do you see that from Eagles fans.
For the record just finished watching last night's game for second time, repeatedly rewinding and slo-mo playing contentious decisions (and non-decisions).
To any neutral or fair-minded analyst there is NO DOUBT North was robbed by umpiring in second half.
So Eagles supporters - Enjoy but just be bloody honest about how the game went.

North was robbed? Ok, let's be HONEST about how the game went. If west coast had at least an average night in front of goals, instead of a disastrous night in front of goals, North would have gone down by 4-5 goals. West coast had 7 more scoring shots. Yet North were robbed? If North's midfield could find targets in their forward 50 they would have won the game. But they didn't. that's being HONEST. Look at the scoreboard and there's NO DOUBT that this is true.

The free against Swallow has been paid all season. If you're on the ground with the ball in hand the tackler has to avoid any incidental contact with the head/shoulders. Shit interpretation introduced in the pre-season but the free kick is there every day of the week.

It's a pity it's caused so much controversy given it was such a well umpired game.

Swallow didn't make any contact and that wasn't what the free was given for. It was for secondary high contact from Adams.

Didn't make contact? Not sure what game you were watching mate, there was high contact, the free kick was paid as it should have been, regardless of which part of the tackle it was paid for.

Just watched the highlights again. Shuey one not there I reckon he fell forward play on. Selwood ducked as soon as he felt contact yet if you listen the umpire says that the free was paid for the second tackle. He must have meant Swallow coming across Selwood's chest and missing his neck by about 30 centimetres. Very unlucky North.

What secondary contact? Adams made the original tackle. Unless the umpires meant his arm went over the shoulder in the tackle, which it did as Selwood ducked. Either way it happened and its done now. Just unlucky there North that it happened right at the death.

He released the high contact as they fell and then copped him high again on the ground.

It's unfortunate that the Channel 7 cameras cut to a different angle as soon as Swallow came in to Selwood. Didn't get a good view of it.

The free kick wasnt given for the intial tackle on Adam Selwood. It was given for a tackle made on Adam Selwood when he was on the ground and the 3 players were surrounding him. Umpires exact words are

"Nah nah you got him high in the second tackle on the ground"

The umpire said so during the broadcast yet no one picks it up. Given that this is the case why do I keep seeing footage of something the free kick wasnt actually paid for in Adam Selwoods duck?

Seems to me people dont understand the game at all, which makes the umpires jobs alot harder. Catering to the dimwits
Do you want to see the footage of the mystery second tackler? That is even more laughable as Swallow clearly missed him by a metre. Bit like the mystery touched, typical guessing by an incompetent buffoon. Just strange how West Coast seem the beneficiary of the most laughable calls? Do we want to talk about Priddis' attempt to hump Scott Thompson on the wing 2 metres off the ball? Somehow the boys from OPSM seemed to think it was in the contest, what was it a Greco Roman wrestling contest, because the ball wasn't even near Thompson?

You are joking aren't you? Adams has the ability to let go of the tackle and then re tackle him higher all in a nano second? Now that is magic, bit like some of the magic that happened last night, I saw a magic mark by Nic Nat, kudos to him and the magic of umpires guessing and seeing things that clearly didn't happen.

Well at the end of the day we lost, so who cares. Just another week when 3 idiots do their best to ruin a great game.

new in the back rule?
watch the video again and look closely at selwood legs they were already bent when he got the ball and stopped to change direction

who cares the first tackle was high. the umpire made two mistakes which ended in a right because the first one should hand been a free

I honestly can't discount a deliberate cheatring exercise in this match when I watch the last 15 minutes.

- Wright getting brought around on an obscene angle.
- Petries unpaid mark within scoring range
- Blacks unpaid mark within scoring range
- Adams getting pushed in the back
- The Shuey joke
- The Sellwood joke

It was a complete opposite of the umpiring in the first half. A complete opposite.

The gods were against them.
How's the leg break the ball does to stay in play just before the incident!
Sell wood did lead with his head though,

The free kick was given for the second tackle which was laid while they were both on the ground. A high tackle.

Unfortunately this has haunted the club for a while. Is an indictment on the club he's leading our goal kicking yet the losses are stacking up. Club will never win the big games while relying on 'fake full forward' like Thomas that can't crumb well, gets in the way of the key forwards, flies for dumb marks, dives, plays dead, fakes injury after being killed in a one on one, can only tackle in a straight line (usually directly in the back and high), seeks the glory to the extent of sabotaging new forwards, has a putrid finals record.
Ever since his debut he's put a curse on Norths other small forwards. Shannon grant missing from the goal square when Thomas kicked 5 points against collingwood. Campbell, gone, Adams, Harper shot, Edwards, warren, even Cyril copped 2 months on the sidelines against north this year. North won't win finals with this magic Ben McKinley.

3 options for North-

1- teach him to crumb and play a team game

2- eradicate the diving, behind the play snipes, general inciting of blues when not getting a kick, arm flapping, whinging and teach him to tackle.

3- show him the door and not find themselves losing finals by narrow margins and regaining respect from the umpires and football community.

Don't wary we have Jetta the diving queen, who learned from Monfries the diving king just luckily for us Bomber Thompson hates players playing for free kicks.

Since most are agruing a topic that is irrelivent i suggest people listen to the Audio. The free was not payed against Adams. Now please continue the discussion educated :)

Educated? The angle isn't from the what the umpire saw and takes places after Swallow is already passed over Selwood and not the alleged point of impact.

In context it's a poor bit of evidence to use as it shows it from a bad angle after the event has taken place. But this isn't the first time the official North Melbourne site has used that as a forum to whinge about umpiring decisions to go against them, completely unprofessional thing to do and very bush league.

Don't know about cheating. Look North were unlucky with the last 2 frees. Umpiring from a neutral point of view wasn't that bad. Scott handled himself well, what would make it easier is if the Giesh just comes out and says look it was a mistake we're sorry umpiring is tough and 100% perfection will never exist. Difficult but still digestible rather than some ramblings about a second tackle or inconclusive videos or mental gymnastics about how the correct decision was made.

new in the back rule?

To be honest they have been paid the last 2 years but personally the rule shits me. Don't reckon Zieball fell into his back rather Shuey fell forwards. IMO should only be in the back if a player is pushed or has his back fallen into not dives forwards in a tackle.

It's not the first time I have wondered that this year. The "open for interpretation" aspect to our rules in what is paid and just as importantly, what's let go - and when and where you pay them - leaves the game wide open for the odd Hansie Cronje moment. There's been a couple of games this year where dodgy frees consistently favouring one side at key moments have left me suspicious, but thinking I should know better.

And far too many frees not given in the spirit of the rule but the letter of the rule. I guess this is what happens when your governing body needlessly and incessantly ****s with the rules. It's a real mess!
