Something extremely bizarre happened in that match and 90% of the unaligned football public agree.

Well done sir!

We have a "new dumbest post" on this issue, across all the threads related to it.

"90%".

:D:D:D

90% of this board doesn't even agree, and this board is more cynical of umpires than any other group of "footy community" that I'm aware of.

Oh my. How I laughed at that!

Nobody respects your club whilst it plays that kind of weak wimpish football and all the defensive rhetoric in the world won't change a thing.

You lot continue on with the high fiving and butt slapping, but you aren't fooling anyone.

90% agree, I haven't had one person tell me north was robbed.. Not one? People have said the selwood decision was wrong, some have said it was right. No one except offended and obviously the intellectually troubled on bf are claiming anything anywhere as ridicules as shit you claim.

I think the trip has to be deemed deliberate, Firrito was clearly falling to ground and just clipped him with an out stretched arm, hard to call that a deliberate trip.
Has to be deemed deliberate? An outstreched hand to tap an ankle as you fall to the ground.

You have described a deliberate trip.

I'm not even convinced it was a trip. It looked like a classic soccer player tripping himself up to win a bogus penalty. It's worked for years there why not in the AFL?

He was running into goal, why would he go down and take a shot from 50 when he could have waltzed in and taken one from 30?

because he wanted a kick from the goal line. Seriously, and I'm a soccer fan, but how many times have you seen a striker go down to try and get a penalty when he could have had a superb chance on goal. I just can't see contact hand on foot, but I can see a foot tripping self on foot. Even if there was slight contact it was milked for all it was worth. It's a shame but in that way in particular our game is getting softer. MInd you I did watch the 1973 GF on 7 today and was amazed how soft some of the frees were.

You're wrong.

They mocked the decision on Fox Footy, laughed and looked away from the camera then made sure that everyone watching knew how many frees like this Adam Selwood and Luke Shuey have received in the last 5 years.

The umpire clearly stated that Swallow's 2nd tackle was high, the replay showed it was nowhere near his upper body let alone his neck.
Good point bringing up the Fox Footy teams professional post match wrap up. Here's my fave part:
Derm: Wellingham, former Collingwood star now West Coast hack.
Eddie: Yeah, well thats what happens when Pies go West.

Wish Eddie would stop teasing us about how they won the Chad Morrison for a pick / Mark LeCras trade.

Yeah i dont watch soccer so im not sure how often strikers deliberatley trip themselves up from contact from behind they didnt feel or couldnt see when there 50 out and running into an open goal.

Wouldnt mind if you could post some footage of it happening in soccer though. Maybe examples from rugby and gridiron too. Sounds like an excellent coaching tip. (PS are you Mark Neeld?)

We weren't robbed. Yeah, those frees hurt but if we blocked NicNat's run, he doesn't take the mark. If Sam Wright kicks the goal a few minutes earlier, we win by four points. Etc etc.

Even more pertinently, if our kids, who can certainly match it with the best, are bit more experienced, have that extra 3 per cent of "runthegameoutability" and a bit more composure, we win.

The only time I can honestly say I've ever seen a game where the umpires directly gave one side the win was Afelaide v Fitzroy, 93 I think it was. They got a ton of frees and 50s in the last few minutes and won. That stank.

This year we lost to Geelong after giving up a 7 goal lead. They got 7 goals directly from frees. The winning goal came from a free and fifty. (The free and fifty were both there).

We should have won that game because we had them on the ropes and we should have put them away.

Whinging about umpiring is a mugs game. Sure, fans and players and coaches are entitled to get frustrated about the way certain things are interpreted on a week to week basis, or even within a game.

But the best sides will win no matter what.

I won't quote your whole post - I just wanted to say, you know what my favourite part was? (aside from including some rational thought that this thread is almost devoid of)

Awesome grammar and punctuation - something that's been missing from grumpy North fans since Friday :P

Nice short and punchy sentence structure.

Good use of active voice.

No smileys.

Nic Naitanui happened to that game! Although he is different, I think " bizarre" is off the mark.

He'll go alright if he gets an arm chair ride from umpiring opportunities like that for the rest of his career.

I imagine Carey would have got another 1000 goals in his career under the West Coast ducking rule.
