Good to see JSOS, Kennedy & Weiters all approaching their time in the VFL with the right attitude. We have seen too many players over the last decade who have gone back to the VFL & sulked instead of seeing it as part of their development. This augurs well for the future of these players & our club.

Murph in for Ed (can see the AFL being strict on this)
Weiters in
JSOS in for

Kennedy needs to build his fitness and get to more contests, quicker. A couple more games in the VFL to build his match fitness..

Graham gets 30 disposals regularly in the VFL, 30 from a major inside AFL ball winner in the VFL is just a pass mark. Unless we are desperate, Kennedy can stay there and develop some form, he's been bog awful at AFL level. Would be good for him to build and improve on this in the VFL. Same with Silvagni and Weitering. There just isn't a spot for these guys really with the AFL side winning, probably only a few who could go out there and these guys aren't really replacements. Not unless we send Silvagni back for Plowman.

I'd give him another game in the ressies and then bring him in for Graham, unless Ed gets rubbed out for a game, then he's straight in by necessity.

I think it's as much match fitness as anything for Kennedy. I'd leave him in there until the bye. Just needs to play and work. Then come in ready for second half of the season.

Nothing wrong with playing VFL. It's best for his long-term development.

30 touches says he applied himself well. He should be racking those numbers up every week at that level.

Getting hands on it is good. Key thing is whether he is doing something positive with it.

Well a clearance is considered the first effective disposal from a ball up.

So presumably those were effective touches...

I hear you - lies, damn lies and statistics though. Just suggesting that being marked down in the record for clearances is a good start, but being genuinely good at it is another ball game. Will take him a while to get there, but I reckon he will.

I don't necessarily think that's why they put him there.
What's your theory? I think it's the position on the ground that his strengths shine the most.

I mean there's the risk he looks like Richard Hadley post-ACL, but there's also a decent chance he can become a great player in his own right, just has to keep working on his burst, same as Gibbs had to.

Think you will find a clearance is the first possession to effective clear the stoppage.

If Cripps gets the centre bounce and kicks it 55 under pressure to Rance as we have no one leading up.. he gets the clearance, but most likely a Clanger or ineffective possession as well.

So clearances doesn’t necessarily mean effective

I think they've put him there to learn about 2nd & 3rd efforts. I think they've put him there to learn to tackle and provide some defensive pressure. I think they've put him there to learn to hold his feet in the contest. I think they've also put him there to attempt to build some endurance into him. These are all things he'll need if he's to survive as a 3rd tall forward in the current AFL environment. Think Tom Lynch (Crows version). If he's able to have an effect at the stoppages in the front half then all the better. There's no place for SOSOS in a midfield containing Cripps & Kennedy. Just my thoughts though.

I think you have a point there though I have always wanted us to play him there as he has some tools which make an onballer. Good hands, reasonable tackler and attack on the footy and not being overly quick he can be hidden here a little, not to mention being able to impact on the ball adds value to the team. Carlton would possibly like to see him develop into a Bontempelli type.

Reward for effort.

If Ed is suspended then Kennedy needs to come in. (Only question is Marc, but we have others he could replace?)

Loving JSOS work and cannot wait to also see him back in the Firsts:) soon.

Really impressed with Schumachers stats. What was his game like?

You'd stick a player on the wing for those reasons, not give him a job in the thick of the stoppage, especially at VFL where it only flips back and forth between being a rolling maul and an express service between the two 50m arcs. The incentive to cover ground is pretty minimal, as demonstrated by Graham's capacity in such matters.

Jack will never be anything like Lynch, but what I think he can be, is the guy who rotates with Kennedy and Cripps, through the forward line. In fact, I think out of all of them, Kennedy will be the one who plays predominantly as a forward, as he isn't great off the burst, has average agility, but can get up to a good speed and is a great contested mark for a medium player.

Think Caddy and Townsend, except an actual midfield contribution at AFL level, though I'm now feeling like we overpaid for him when Balta, Spargo, Daniels, Petruccelle and McCartin were in that range. Kennedy really does need to find some explosiveness in his play.

Polson must have been impressive with those 4 frees against to get 2nd bog.

Stats test

Eyes test
Going to take a stab and suggest he was our only outside player forward of half back who contributed anything resembling the required effort.
