On Channel 7 last night for the St Kilda game, all throughout the commentary our three Indigenous small fowards, Garlett, Betts and Yarran, have repeatedly been tagged as being "Setanta's Little Helpers".

When I hear this term, I think of the dog in the Simpsons. It rubs me the wrong way when we get to the point of calling some amazing, skilled, and hardworking Indigenous men after a not-particulary-loveable cartoon dog.

I find it disgusting. Thought AFL was a place we could escape slurs (unlike, say cricket), but maybe not.

Lets find a tag more appreciative of the excellent work these guys are doing.

Just because you think of the dog in the Simpsons, doesn't mean everybody else does. Santa's little helpers are actually elves, and they are a bundle of energy and good spirit. The dog on the Simpsons was named after the elves.

No slur to be had, just a nice little play on words that rolls off the tongue.

Not meaning to be nasty honestly, but your signature kind of crossed my mind.

They're not calling them Lassie or Rin Tin Tin, they're called Setanta's little helpers because of Setanta's name - simple.

It's tacky but it's no slur. This world is getting a little too PC for my liking.

I guess after a great win we have nothing to complain about so lets just complain about stupid things. I like the little helpers and it sure don't make me think about any dogs when I hear it, I like elves they give me presents and stuff.

There have been a few questionable calls during the games this year but the comentators have calmed down from a few years ago when every Indigenous footballer was refered to as being 'naturally' talented.

I bought a copy today, Juddy on the cover, and on the pic it said "Report inside".

There was no write up of the game at all (that i could see while skimming through it), yet there was a pic on the front advertising just that.

Setanta's little helpers is a great play on the theme with Setanta being 200cm (or so tall) and Yarran, Betts and Garlett all being around 20cm or so smaller than him.

And the fact that the big fella is in there working just as hard to get the ball to them so they can score just makes it all the more of a joke.

PC bullshit is what is making society slowly fall apart.

I am actually more surprised that people don't have more of a whinge about the way we talk about supporters from Collingwood and Essendon... after all, they are all walking talking (admittedly mouth breathing) human beings that deserve respect.

If you cant see the humour in the term, I suggest that you just harden the **** up please and get a humour transplant.
