We need a #2/#3 forward to stand up quickly before we become too Riewoldt-conscious and end up kicking ONLY to him like we did with Richo, butchering the ball endlessly even if he was not the best option.

Current Nominees are as follows:
Ben Griffiths
Jayden Post
David Astbury
Troy Taylor
Mitch Morton
Andrew Collins (?)

Ben Griffiths - will take a couple of years until he makes a major impact with a couple of good games here and there

Jayden Post - The dark horse for me. He could stand up and make a real impact soon. Has bulked up heaps and has lost his speed because of it. When he regains that speed he will be a force to be reckoned with and a possible future CHB/CHF.

Mitch Morton - Ideally in the future he will be a #3 or #4 forward.

What crumbers do we have though?
Nahas, Roberts, Hicks, King (?)...who else?

Is Reiwodlt really our number one forward? I am expecting Griffiths to take the role over the next few years.

And, yes we do not want to become to Reiwodlt focused as we did with Richo. Ideally, I would like to see Morton back.

What about Rance? He has shown some promise.

Post as the swingman and those other 3 in the forward sounds good. We need some small forwards come draft time. Nason is doind alright but i want him up the ground kicking it in and still have someone of his class at the feet of the talls.

I believe Jayden Post will fill in as the lead up forward playing at CHF, I believe he has very good hands and leads and presents himself well.

Also, Mitch Morton, what is going on with him, watched him play on the weekend, he played a pretty poor game IMO.

Griffiths, Astbury, Post are promising but I reckon Richmond needs a really fast leading forward with a bit of size to play deep in the forward line near Jack. These 3 are more CHF types. Richmond only have one option - Gourdis, but he is being groomed to be FB.
Someone like Sean Rusling would be ideal for this role - not saying that they should get him but try to get someone like him. Last year North Melbourne got Black and Kennedy both of whom would be handy to groom for this role also.
I really hope that Taylor can fill this role.

Does anyone know the 20m sprint and vertical jump results of Taylor and Griffiths?

How about this guy he could go alright. ;)

Anybody who was at the game and could take their eyes of JR for a second would know that Griffiths has pace to burn for a big fella. Will obviously be given a massive shot at becoming one of our two/three big forwards.

Will be very important for us to spot up guys like Griffiths in the next few weeks while JR is copping extra heat from opposition sides. Andy Collins capitalised on this a couple of times when he snuck into the 50 and marked under little pressure.

As for Astbury he is looking really good down back at the moment. First bloke of real height with footskills and composure that we have had down there for a long time. Posty has his work cut out to earn a recall at this stage. Lack of pace means that he doesn't quite fit into a forward line with JR as we need somebody with a quick lead to balance out JR's stay at home style. Post's hands, I believe, will be best utilised accross the half back line where I think his ability to read the play will be very effective in a rolling zone defense.

As for Mitch Morton - ignoring the fact that he has been supremely disapointing this year. Saw his last two weeks and just can't believe where he is at with his footy. However a player of his talent should be persevered with and he should be aiming to be a Steve Johnson type, not a third tall as such. Needs to lift his workrate and also needs to attack the man and the ball with real intent. I would play him on the half back line and through the midfield at Coburg to build his fitness, and offensive and defensive work ethic. Steve Johnson is a good player, not just because of his x factor, but because when he is playing well he is working so hard up and down the ground and finding lots of the footy. Mitch has been a 10 touch type player for a long time. For a player of his skill and ability that is woeful. Means that opposition defenders can leave him when their side has the ball and operate under little pressure.

This ^^^

That chase he put on down the Members flank/wing in the first quarter (can't remember who he was chasing), to put pressure on the disposal was awesome.

When he builds up fitness, and can move in bursts at that speed, later in the game after running all day, he could be a real force.

I was only thinking of this yesterday too...

Only 5-6 weeks ago most posters on here as well as general footy 'pundits' were looking for someone else to come through to become our main forward target so that Jack could play the no.2 or even no. 3 role... I'm sure virtually all of us have been surprised at how JR8 has "exploded" over the past 5 weeks.

Sure he takes some big contested pack marks as well but the key to his recent success has been his ability to win body-on-body, 'one-out' contests close to the goal square. His strength has surprised most people and his 'reading of the balls drop zone' as well.

Based on this, Jack looks most likely to remain at FF so it is a fast leading, long kicking CHF I would be looking for and thats gotta be Griff!

He is tall, very agile and pretty quick + can seriously roost the ball 55-60M with accuracy.

I'd be heading towards something like this:

HF - Nason Griffiths Morton
FF - Taylor Riewoldt Nahas/Hicks

(Need Morton to regain his mojo)

To easy...now that we have a #1 Forward we should be doing all we can to get him to defend that spot as #1 Forward. That way we dont have another 10 years of 3 on 1s in the FL. ;)

A question for the guys who got to see griffiths play last year in the champs was he more a lead up forward or a full forward?

Because riewlodt can play lead up and in the goal square.

can you tell me why your expecting griffiths to take the role.
ive not seen anything other than the odd promising glimpse that so many other kids show.
yep it would be interesting to hear what you have seen.

let me say first i didnt see griffiths live once. but saw a few tapes what failed to impress me was his aerial work. always got it on the lead but did little in contested situations.
because i had seen so little of him i have had to go by the shoulder injury theory as to why such a lumping big kid didnt dominate in the air.

hes certainly for his size a very good athletic mover and excellent kick.

Ok I'll define it better. Riewoldt is our FF. We need a CHF.
By the sounds of it Griffiths could be a winner, sounds like he has the pace, if he builds the tank then he's set, providing that he has skills.

I will jizz if we get Sam Day

I would be looking at something like this in 2012.
FF: Morton Riewoldt Nason/Taylor/Tambling
HF: Veszpremi Griffiths Bennell

;) ;)
