The NRL and the NRL Match Review Committee need to have a long hard look at themselves.....
3-4 weeks for Andrew Johns is an absolute disgrace.....
If Joey is unsuccessful, this will surely end the Knights chances in 2006.
Players venting their anger at decisions made by officials happens on a weekly basis. It comes with the emotion of the game and comes with the pressure of captaincy.
Robert Finch and Paul Simpkins after the game both accepted they made the wrong decision at the end of the game, which cost the Knights any chance of victory. In this situation Johns, Hagan, Knights Players and Supporters had every right to blow up. It was a crucial mistake at a crucial time in the match.
Both Matt Cecchin (Touch Judge) and Simpkins should be dropped for the next round as a result of that decision.
If it was a player other than Johns, im sure alot less would be made of the matter.
It seems as though the NRL still has a habit of favouring the Sydney clubs, as opposed to clubs like Melbourne, NZ, Storm, Brisbane, Newcastle and Nth Qld.

He doesn't deserve a 4 week stretch but he needs to be pulled into line. I can see how frustrating it must have been however you can't say that to a match official. Give him a week off.

The AFL tribunal is based on the NRL model.

But the NRL version is more consistent with penalties.

And Joey deserved a couple. Put his big melon back in it's place. He went mental spraying the ref/s. A one off verbal he would've got away with, but following them about calling them effing C's - he had to cop a holiday - especially since they're miked up.

But I reckon he copped a week too many.

Fair dinkum, the disgraceful mob are the Newcastle Knights Football Club hierarchy who have failed to pull Joey into line in recent times, particularly storming off at Parra Stadium and not collecting his award. He is nearing retirement and his legacy might just be enough to become a RL Immortal in the near future alongside other former greats, but if he can't display the requisite sportsmanship and personal attributes then he shouldn't become a RL Immortal. Moreover, I don't understand why a player in his position is tarnishing his legacy so late in his career with this spoilt sport brat image.

My advice to Newcastle RLFC - it's your responsibility to pull Joey into line!
My advice to Joey is simple - be a good sport in both victory and defeat or forever tarnish your legacy!
My advice for referees - 4fs get it right more often than not - and video refs: 4fs its not that hard, we can see the monitor as well and its not that f'ing hard!

Andrew Johns will get what's coming...

He has shafted his own club by being a d**khead

He's been supposedly warned before, 1-2 weeks is good, but 3 or 4 is way over the top, especially around this time.

But if they want to make a point, I guess they'll make it. ;)

And good on them, I think Fox and 9 should take some responsibility as well, they are the mob putting mics all over the place.

Microphones didn't cause him to abuse the officials.

and now hes threatening to leave australia for england if he cops 4 weeks. i thought the game is bigger than the individual!

oh dear, now the PM and Beazley are weighing in on the debate....

Mr Beazley called for Johns to be punished "as little as possible" for his indiscretion.

so one rule for johns, one rule for everyone else

poor form if he follows on with the threat, would lose a lot of respect
I believe it is his manager who has made these threats and it is making Joey look like a tosser.

Even Johnny Howard and Kim Beasley are into the discussion!

Joey got 2 weeks wasn't it? anyway he had a valid point in that, the ref's really did get it wrong but he had no right to retaliate in the way he did

Johns is consistently above the rules of the game. His oafish behaviour off field and abuse and backchat to the officials on the field are a constant source or ridicule. His threat to leave the NRL is testament to his childish carrying on.

The trouble is the judiciary panel often consists of ex-players who are either mates with, or are in awe of big profile players and they are consistently getting harsh penalties first up only to have these things consistently thrown out on appeal. Johns must have the best appeal record of any player, so it's good to see them make an example of Johns even if they did half cave in in the end, and Buderis too.

Having said that, a finals match should be worth 2 games, and a GF around 4 matches. Which would mean carryover points would mean suspension in regular matches next year.
