hate them all
Heard a lot of nuffies on social media claiming our flags in '17 & '19 were gifted to us etc so i did some digging to see how we have compared to our opposition in the last 3 seasons in terms of total wins & the findings are as follows -

H&A (Finals) wins 2017-2019

Richmond 49 (7)
Geelong 44 (2)
West Coast 43 (5)
GWS 40 (5)
Collingwood 39 (3)
Adelaide 37 (2)
Port Adelaide 37
Sydney 36 (1)
Essendon 36
Hawthorn 36
Melbourne 31 (2)
Western Bulldogs 31
North Melbourne 28
Brisbane 26
Fremantle 25
St Kilda 24
Carlton 15
Gold Coast 13

Total

Richmond 56
Geelong 46
West Coast 48
GWS 45
Collingwood 42
Adelaide 39
Port Adelaide 37
Sydney 37
Essendon 36
Hawthorn 36
Melbourne 33
Western Bulldogs 31
North Melbourne 28
Brisbane 26
Fremantle 25
St Kilda 24
Carlton 15
Gold Coast 13

So for the Nuffies who say we were lucky to win 2 Flags, we really should have won all 3!

Domination. Two teams I also find interesting are the Cats and Dogs. Cats are all in and should contend again. Dogs have sensationally underperformed since finals 2016.

That’s a great record any comparisons to say hawks, Geelong, Brisbane periods of dominance ie H&A era? Expansion team impact analysis ie harder in post expansion to pre expansion etc

would love to see % comparisons too. I’m too lazy to do any of the above but if there are any nerds or boffins give it a go.

Our finals percentage would be off the chart.

Would the ave % over the 3 seasons be an accurate way to do it?

Bris '01-03 - 51 (9) 60 % 127.60 136.73 121.94 = 128.75 ave
Gee '07-09 - 59 (8) 67 % 158.76 161.84 127.38 = 149.32
Haw '13-15 - 52 (9) 61 % 135.72 140.78 158.84 = 145.11
Rich '17-19 - 47 (7) 56 % 118.29 136.15 113.70 = 122.71

I did Cats '07-09 as per comparison over 3 yrs.
So overall we have less wins & % which could be a reflection on the longer term effect of the expansion era, Hawthorn did thier 3 peat at the beginning of that era.

Our 2018 HA record was better yet no cigar. Just shows you how important it is to have the team fit and peaking at the business end of the season.
No team was beating us in the finals 17/19 even if with fell in at eighth.
These mofo marched into September of those seasons with a mission to kill.

Good analysis and solid conclusion. And don't worry too much about social media. Nothing that anyone says on Facebook changes the scoreboard.

Now that is Poster status worthy! :)

The claims that 17 was a fluke and we were just like the dogs is what really annoys me. The only comparison with the fogs is the fairy tale a long time in the wilderness. We'd come off three seasons of making finals prior to the 16 horror show (miss step😀)
In 17 we finished with the same wins as the minor premier we didn't just get healthy at the right time and sneak in to the top 8
Once the finals Started we just smashed everyone

Cats (07-11): 106 wins, 19 losses, 84.8%
Bombers (99-01): 62 wins, 12 losses, 83.8%
Hawks (11-15): 99 wins, 27 losses, 78.6%
Richmond (17-19): 56 wins, 18 losses, 75.7%
Power (01-04): 74 wins, 25 losses, 74.7%
Lions (01-04): 75 wins, 25 losses, 1 draw, 74.3%
Blues (93-95): 52 wins, 18 losses, 1 draw, 73.6%
Pies: (09-12): 74 wins, 25 losses, 2 draws, 73.3%
Eagles (91-94): 71 wins, 26 losses, 1 draw, 72.4%
Eagles (05-07): 54 wins, 21 losses, 72.0%
Roos (96-99): 71 wins, 29 losses, 71.0%

So a similar or better W/L ratio to most other premiership sides of the last 30 odd years over their peak years.

They hated us the last time we were winning premierships too except this time the flogs are extra jealous because of our membership and off-field success. It rubs salt into their wounds when they get off the train and have to look at out PRO facilities basking in the shadows of the MCG. * em all

Not to mention the predicted hangover in '18 "because that's what the dogs did"

How good would Back 2 Back be if we win in 2020

3 flags in 4 years would definitely be a Dynasty nobody could deny

and with Cotchin , Martin,Riewoldt,Rance,Astbury,Houli,Vlaustin,Rioli , Caddy ,Prestia all becoming 3 x premiership players

If Rance becomes a triple premiership player it will be one of the all time great dynasties

Its not social media that's the root of the problem. Giving air to woes about the state of the game & giving oxygen to the Geelong coach are the root cause. I can't believe an organisation rushes through the rule changes it did. In the wash up we get record low scoring and RFC another flag.
What will the rule change be this year? Not allowed to handball the ball forward. Whately thinks :Hmmm that rugby game is good they don't pass the ball fwd.

The Dogs smashed everyone in the 2016 finals too. You don't fluke a premiership. You win one by scoring most in a Grand Final.

If we claim the Dogs fluked one, then we're no better than the salty oppo claiming we fluked one.

I went back even further to 2013 - (for all the naysayers who say we have had an easy ride)

Our winning % is better than Sydney but they have won more games.

Also I worked out most wins for the year.

Gold - Best winning record for the year
Silver - 2nd best winning record for the year

Clear as day we screwed the pooch last year and in fact should currently be 3x premiers. In fact 2018 is the only year in the past 7 years where the best winning % for the year didn't win the flag.

I agree but history does show them to be 1 yr wonders.

As for Whateley cannot stand that flog, he whinges about the state of our game but drools over the Superbowl, i know which i'd rather watch.
