I think they got the allocation the wrong way round with Schroder and HS....

Also interesting that they've brought back 2 before 19.

And 18 is still spare too.

What is the error you think the Herald Sun has made?

Going on the pics I've seen of our draftees, the captions in the HS seem correct to me...that's definitely Guthrie in the individual pic.

Yes - 29 is Guthrie and Smedts has No 2 according to gfc.com:

"GEELONG has wasted no time handing over Gary Ablett's old number, with recruit Cameron Guthrie to run around with 29 on his back next season.

...

Geelong's top draft pick, midfielder Billie Smedts, has been given the No.2, which was last worn by dual premiership captain Tom Harley."

All the players in the pic seem to be right to me.

A unit the size of Schroder should have got the 33 keep the fear of the number going

No that's definitely Guthrie and the 2 is Smedts, you can tell it's Smedts because he has that slightly dodgy tooth which you would have noticed from his initial article.

I don't know if I like the pressure that Guthrie will get from 29, hopefully people lay off the comparisons.

I am surprised 19 hasn't been brought back..I would have thought it would be ideal to do while Egan is working here, so he can choose who gets his jumper.

Bringing back 2 I would suggest is a sign that we'll be retiring 33 for the time being.

And 15 and 37 are also spare. You would think either one of the rookie (BCJ) or young kids (THunt) might be rewarded with a higher number.

EDIT: The video I am watching shows Horlin Smith has 33 and Schroder 15.

So the spare numbers left are 18, 19 and 37, one of which you would think someone will be promoted into (so we have enough numbers in the 40's available for the rookies)

15 went to Schroder.

I think 18, 19 and 37 will be filled by the start of the season.

I don't think they'll all be filled. Unless I have calculated wrong, we'll have 47 players, so unless we want to go into the 50's, which we don't traditionally do, then we can have 2 spare (which last year were 2 and 19). So one of those numbers will definitely be allocated, and like I said it would make more sense to give it to an existing player than a rookie, but the other 2 might be kept spare.

The other option I have thought of is that they want to keep 46 spare for AV in case he comes back in the future, in which case only one of 18, 19 and 37 (probably 19) will be kept vacant.

But I predict a few existing players to drop down to a lower number.

I don't know anything, if that's what you mean.

It's more that for the first time in a number of years, after the draft we are still left with a number of low(ish) numbers and no exceptional circumstances (eg. retirements of significant players leaving them free), and generally it is then when players take up the opportunity to grab a new number.

Remember Harley was once 37, Scarlett and Hunt were both once 41, Byrnes was once 46, and so on.

Yeah I know, that's why I agree someone will probably move up, but I don't see why any existing player would want to move down. Maybe in the future to wear Ling's number as a tribute to him etc, but I'd be surprised if anyone moves down this year.

Someone is desperate to not have to change his username :D
Wellll I kinda asked Fred and he kinda wasn't too cooperative, so looks like I'm sticking with it.

Anyway, looking at that photo in the HS, Schroder is about twice as wide as the other 3 boys! Ready made wrecking ball.

Really, didn't know changing wasn't allowed.

Makes one wary when choosing a username of an unproven draftee then (unless his name is Pods :D).

Yeah Schroder is a big unit...so long as it doesn't make him too slow, then I like.

Moving from a high number to a low number would be moving down.
