Interested to hear what this board thinks about this. The above won't get it done, I'd imagine you will have to give up at least one solid player. Bergman a chance to be the first sign-and-trade type deal in the AFL?

Bergman would be 0 chance. We
won’t give up anything we don’t want to lose. It would all be future draft picks and a fringe player. 2 time AA with 4 years left on a contract gets to Collingwood for magic beans last year. If he does leave you’ll end up very unhappy with what you get.

Isn't pick trading now open for two years in advance now? Would ask for first round for '26 & '27 as a starting point.

We spent the whole trade period last saying to Collingwood/carlton/Melbourne fans “Trade X won’t get it done” for Houston. Only for us to be thoroughly disappointed.

Not saying you won’t get well compensated (port are generally quite generous during trade time), but it is likely you may be disappointed to some degree. Especially given he’s uncontracted.

I can't read this one other than the Crows are highly unlikely to get him, I think he probably is genuinely still undecided yea we have his close mates and family links to the club but he apparently likes Ross the Boss a fair bit & isn't unhappy at St. Kilda it's just the living in Melbourne thing.

I think we all know loving your coach ends up badly.

yeah he either requests a trade to port or sign 2 year extension

And we work around that

See if we can work something with Gold Coast.

It’s actually not a difficult deal. We will work something out.

It will also be two weeks of BS during the trade period between supporters while the clubs quietly work it out.

We do this every year it seems.

Collingwood didn’t have the assets to trade for a 2 time contracted player last year. It didn’t stop it.

See it from our side for a moment..

Why should port bend over and accept unders for a player cause let players get where they want to go etc then next year when trading for an out of contract player bend over as if the rule doesn’t apply when it’s us?

What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.

Either the outgoing team gets shafted, or the team after the player… whatever , make up your ****ing mind.

Under no circumstances should port fans expect to take it both ways.

Of course what will happen and what should happen aren’t always aligned, especially at our club.

Interesting, Port got hosed last year by the Houston trade. Would have gotten an extra first had the new rules been in.

Definitely expect we will get unders if he does call it, but I'm dubious Ollie Lord is going to feature as a part of any deal. Cheers for the feedback everyone!

Bergman is almost no chance. Who do you consider a "solid" player on Ports list? Would be interested in knowing who you're thinking about here.

Butters decision will be totally independent of this trade, Rozee, JHF, Jase, MG, Bergman, Luko are pretty much off limits for different reasons.

You've got a fair few great players, but a few of those you can probably put a line through considering their age profile. Butters, Rozee, JHF, Bergman would probably be the four and Port would fight tooth and nail to keep them. There's absolutely no universe that exists where Rozee or JHF even entertain the idea either!

McEntee, Burton, Mead, Finlayson

If Dan had stayed and provided the lacklustre season he's displayed at Collingwood as well as turning 28 it might've made bugger all difference.
You can’t compare the role he has at Collingwood to what he would have had here, as far his football he made a ridiculous decision. He would have still been a top 5 player for us.
