Because Port can, and i believe already implied, that even though he is a restricted free agent and contract finished 2026, they will match any offer made which would result in a trade having to take place so it wouldn't be just a 1st round compensation pick but a lot more. It makes no sense to trade butters this season knowing that fact.
It makes no sense to trade Butters at all.
Him staying or not is entirely up to him.
We have made our offer, there’s no logical reason why he shouldn’t accept that offer this year sometime.
Hopefully he does, but until that happens there is always doubts.

Every day that NWM doesn't re-sign at the Saints is another day that he has a chat with Jase and JHF about joining Port.

I find the whole concept of having a 79 page thread on our board dedicated to an opposition player that hasn’t even publicly declared a trade request to us, to be quite icky.

The attitude of some posters in here, getting agro at desperate saints fans over the value of NWM (who again, hasn’t publicly said he wants out, let alone nominated Port yet) seems off to me too - especially considering we were on the other side of this last year with Houston, and potentially next year with Butters as well.

As we well know, it sucks to have one of your best players potentially want out and having oppo supporters then jump down your throat with how you should be grateful for accepting unders.

I know it’s an interesting topic, and an exciting potential acquisition for Port - and this is an open forum for discussing niche football topics.

I also know there’s a lot of posters here who would be incredibly annoyed if the Bulldogs board started a thread about Butters - and began talking with authority over the speculation that he wants to go to Victoria.

Of course, as a port supporter I would love it if we landed NWM - but I feel like the daily chatter about it in this thread is very premature.

I think you'll find that the size of the thread here has more to do with the bin fire on the main board where any Port supporters are pretty much drowned out by Crom and to a lesser extent Norf trolls.

the Bulldogs don't have a Butters Stand at their home ground

I'm getting sick of seeing this. 2025 is moot. The crows will have more injuries and a harder fixture (surely) in 2026. I'd have both SA clubs on par, and really with Port's midfield weapons, Port should be the front-runner.
Gotta agree. This year they have taken advantage of a healthy list and easy draw. Time for them to strike while they can I guess.

Fwiw Id have no issue with the Dogs having a thread about Butters. The only issue I see is going on to other boards to be a dick (which just to be clear, no Saints fans have done here)

Seriously we would have to sell the farm if he was to nominate us. Bugger that.
No not really…

I’ve post this on the main nas thread but we could do something like this..

We trade Pick 26 and Jack Whitlock to North for pick 20 & 21

Pick 20 & 21 to Gold Coast for pick 8

Pick 8 and a 2026 future first round pick to St Kilda for NWM.

I think we’d need to pony up three first rounders in that situation (2027 first) if we want a trade to get done relatively easily. We could try and get some later picks back in the future drafts for our academy/FS selections.

We could also be dicks like Geelong and say pick 8 or nothing and push him to the ND. I don’t like the stress of him going to the draft in that scenario though.

There is next to no chance Port would value Whitlock as low as a pick in the 20s in this draft.

They had a first round grade on him in last year's super draft and are very happy with his development to date.

Yeah, but we must note that Nas is out of contract and not under contract, which is a big difference in the equation.

If Nas weren’t OOC, then yeah, I’d agree, but he isn’t. So that leaves St Kilda, and we pretty much have to accept that they’re not getting a better deal for an out-of-contract player despite how good Nas is.
