Ones about to play finals and in a strong team going into the future. The other plays for a rabble who's lost 3 games by over 90 points this season (with probably more to come) and definitely won't be competitive next season. But sure, "dan who?" ridiculous

Collingwood? They are statistically the oldest V/AFL side of all time. They're all in for the now with no view to the future.

You can't possibly think that were looking at trading a Contracted Butters for an Uncontracted NWM.

This is a completely bizzare, speculative and uncommon circumstance where two of AFL's biggest talents have question marks over their contract status. Of course most people put two and two together and think that its a feasible and fair for a swap. Adding in the mix a cloud of what the eligibility of Dougie looks like, as all signs point to him being a generational talent that we desperately want.

The reality is far more complex than that, but to me, boils down to a few key points:
  1. We don't know Nas or Butters desires for either of thier futures. Butters may want to stay and St Kilda decides that only he is reasonable compensation for Nas. That complications the potential trade situation as thats a chip we cant cash out on.
  2. We're waiting on understanding if Dougie is NGA eligible or not. It may be far more practical for us to sell the farm for a top 5 pick than it is to trade for Nas. Every team has picks, but only St Kilda has Nas; And they really want to keep him
  3. The AFL has a very marketable situation on it's hands - At the end of the day, we're all f5'ing pages for a crumb of ITK's dropping their intel. People are clicking on articles for updates, media outlets are clamouring over each other for updates. It's a spectacle that makes for a ton of engagement for the AFL whatever way it lands.
All of that said, let's say Ben and Nas have made a decision to ensure that St Kilda gets a fair value for Nas going to Port. That's on the AFL to make the decision on Dougies eligibility.

If Dougie is, then Future Firsts are on the table. If not, than were relying on Butters to make a very quick decision on what he wants. If we decide that were rebuilding around Carr, then its a case of making the tough call for the good of the club and extracting value where we can.

Either way, the AFL gets its engagement, we get a clearer picture of what Dougies eligibility is and what possible trade looks like - All the while, Nas gets to be the AFL'S highest paid player ever. Everyone's a winner.

Its was a joke of Dan who of he called us wanting to come home, obviously he wont, but his form there is not that same as here

Nas has a lot of potential and would love to get him. These heroics he has done lately , has it been against top 4 teams or bottom 8 teams? Some deluded Saints fans thinking he is as good as N Daicos, Butters or J Cameron. A straight swap for Butters ? F off . We would need something coming back.

I am at the stage now along with alot of saints fans that I would be surprised if he stays at the saints now. No one who isn't homesick leaves it till August to re commit.
Nas obviously is home sick I think he is coming home the only question now is, it to us or the crows? People on the crows board are saying if he doesn't announce anything straight after st.kilda and ports season is over the more chance of him going to adelaide but I think Nas will leave it until after the saints b & f on Sept 29 after the gf.
And if he is coming to us that might be a good thing as if the unthinkable happens and the crows win the flag we will need some happy news after that to ease the pain a little.
I don't see how he could rock up to the b & f with no signing and no annoucement. Would just be too awkward.

I reckon he spills the beans at the end of the season. Give people a few weeks to sook and then he can rock up at the b & f, accept his trophy and bow out gracefully.

Jon Ralph reckons 3 firsts as bare min, reckons it going to get real ugly, were nasty bad people.

"Prepare for the most complicated, nastiest, most drawn-out trade discussion we have seen in some time."

Never seen Ralph post a single positive thing Port related.

Always has it in for us.

Not a chance it’ll be 3 first rounders unless at least 1 of them is pushing into the 20’s (Adelaide, Brisbane, Collingwood type of 1st).

Everyone in the media thinks we are utter trash. Based on that, next years first should be a top 5 pick in their eyes. That adds a lot of weight to the trade.
Mind you, I think we will bounce back hard, but no one over there thinks we will.

Dan not being overly effective at Collingwood doesn't mean that the trade hasn't hurt us.

The trade is looking like a Lose-Lose-Win for Port-Collingwood-Gold Coast.

Port didn't get enough to replace what Houston provided.
Collingwood hasn't gotten a player worth what they paid.
And Gold Coast has gotten two first (one top 10) and John Noble for a pick 13 that was going to be eaten up with a bid on Lombard.

He just had 36 and 2.2 vs Geelong, 43 against Hawthorn, 35 against coll.

Deary me…
