Alan Edwards was a great talent with dodgy knees, as good a CHF at Collingwood as I have seen . Although thats not saying much, apart from David Cloke and Anthony Rocca we havent had too many good CHF's in the past 40 years!!!

Alan Edwards started a tradition at Collingwood of talented kpp's getting brought down by injury, with Graeme Teasdale, Mark Orval, Lee Walker and now Tom Davidson. All talents in their own way. Throw in the unbelievable but wasted talents of Phil Carman and we havent had a lot of luck along the way.

Agree with Butch. Had dodgy knees before he came our way from the Tigers but garnered excitment with real talent at CHF in those Hafey years.
Didnt know O'Bee was his nephew either.

BTW, did any of you know Colin Alexander played three Origin matches for Tasmania - and kicked nine goals!!!

Ahem Starcevich, Keays?

Keays quit the club when he kicked about 10 in Round 22 1990 for the Reserves and thought that was enough to get him promoted into the seniors (despite the seniors winning their last three home and away games by an average 14 goals).

Went on to an illustrious career with Richmond Reserves. He was crap.

Starcevich was a good player who got maximum out of his average ability. He will always be remembered for his fantastic game in the 1990 GF until the lights went out, but he was no superstar. Cult hero though.

And Butch Edwards father and grandfather played with the Dogs. His father, Arthur, played in the 1954 premiership side.

Butch ended up playing with Melton for free beer instead of match payments. Half way through the season they asked him to go back onto match payments because they couldn't afford his bar bill!

On the theme of Collingwood/Richmond players like Butch.

I saw Terry Keays walking to his vehicle up in Fairfield which looked like a 'Jim Mowers' vehicle or some business like that. Must admit that I was tempted to ask him if he had any regrets. I wonder if Aaron James has any now he is kicking heaps of goals in some league somewhere.

Keays took a huge speccy for us in a pre season game and played one good game for us and then you actually took him back in 1992. You were so patient with him. Everyone was just hanging out for him to mature. You wanted to give him every chance.

As for him quitting in 1990 I think he went out on the town and got wasted during the finals. When Mathews told him off he cracked the sads and that was the end of the union.

..........because he thought his season was over (which it probably was) and he cracked the sads. Didn't even attend any Premiership celebrations, I believe.

And his great uncle (Arthur Edwards) played for Footscray. And also somehow related to Richard '********' O'Bree who played 4 games with Collingwood. Well since O'Brees nickname is Cheesey (because of the cheese brie) you can only imagine what nickname Richard O'Bree had.
