Why bring in O'bree he's a has been slow, cant kick and can't really do anything. Wellingham is a good young player with pace and he can kick well.
WHY Collingwood???

Firtsly ill try my darndest to answer the obree question

He is our best (possibly just behind burns) clearence player
He is our leading Goal assist player
He is very good with contested possesions
He reads the ball off hands and in play better than most
We are a young team right now, and his expereince helps

Now on wellingham
Hasnt been great for a while now
Only played last week in place of stanners as it wasnt as wet as the coaching staff thought it would be
Is still skinny
Goes at the ball one handed, too many look away handpasses and trys to to do some silly stuff when the normal option is the best and fine
His kicking of late has been falling short
Will be back soon enough, and will get there.

Right now Obree is best 22 material wellers hasnt been in the greatest form for more than a fortnight.

That should answer them

*Sigh* - For guys like Pendles, Thomas, Davis, Swan etc etc to use the ball in space and therefore produce a higher % of effective disposal they need someone in the side who sacrifices their own game to get the clearance. This is O'Bree's role in a team sport with many roles and No-one at the club does it better.

Quite simply, we don't have anyone better. Certainly not a class midfielder, but a workman like player in a workman like midfield. Wellingham has a long, long way to go to be genuine AFL midfielder

If the question is why O'Bree over Shaz the answer is simply, I'd go further and say Shaz needs to get a rest. Show that his not a walk up start. Rest his body a bit having firing for finals, played much better when he was trying to proove himself IMO.

Shaz will be a player if he sorts some stuff out but he does have a long way to go.

If Stanners is fit my question is why O'Bree over Stanley. I know the stats for O'Bree in opti's post don't change, that said there O'Bree can't go on forever, Stanley has been demanding a spot. We went fine in the clearances without O'Bree last week and adding Stanley is still adding a really hard at the stoppages type player.

I think the answer is simple, despite O'bree not being the future of Collingwood at the moment he is in the best 22 and is an integral part of our midfield and crucial inside player.
Also, with Didak and the Shaws out of the side and a couple of 'fringe' players out of form there is a fair bit of oppurtunity for younger blokes to get a gig in the side. I don't see the benefit in playing a young player who shows potential but is horribly out of form in place of someone who makes our team better, at this end of the season where we still need ensure of a place in the top 8 so we can have a run at the flag...wishful thinking I know.

Meatwad: I thought you said TV is bad.
Frylock: Oh it is...but we ****in' need it!

O'Bree adds value to our side. We can't afford to rely on Burns and Swan alone for clearances especially since Swan is so vital in the link-up play around the ground. I know it worked against St. Kilda but it's not always going to work.

Stanners is fit and will be playing in the VFL.... I think he deserves a game and have said it now for weeks do not really know what he has to do to get a game.
Wellingham is not an in and under player so he can't replace O'Bree. Stanners is really the only in and under player we have in reserve and apparently they won't play all three together. As it is one of the hardest and important positions to play I guess Stanners grooming has not quite finished yet!!!! His time will come but I can't see it happening this year which is a shame for us....:(:thumbsd::thumbsd::thumbsd:

Should of been Stanley in, he has killed the VFL all year and needs game time in the middle as he is our future O'bree is not.

We didn't struggle for clearences without O'bree, infact it made more players step into the role. O'bree has horrid disposal and the stats don't reflect his "turnover" becuase if you kick in a direction of a forward its considered "effective" wether or not it hit the deck at the forwards feet or went over his head or he had 3 players on him.

you forgot pendles he got a fair few clearences through handballs aswell.

I would rather Wellingham in the side.
O'Bree-delist.

Such ignorance. If you properly analysed a game and watched his stoppage work you would understand why ob is so important to us.

You cant win games without getting clearances. And while the coaches train players games to become extractors (clarke, thomas, pendles, wellingham, mcarthy) we need guys with hard bodies that can clear the ball from stoppages. We have burns, OB and swan, that is really all.

Still very much a required player and certainly will not be delisted

I'd say both Stanley and Cook have bodies capable of holding thier own around stoppages, In O'Bree's absence Cook was very willing to get in and under last week, and whilst he didn't win a lot of ball at the center he did a lot of great blocking work for the likes of Swan and Pendles.

Pendles is great around the clearances without doing bull like work. With Burns, Swan and Cook and as I said Stanley who needs to be given ago I think we could win the middle as Port don't exactly have a brilliant hard in and under midfield either.

Stanners has the hard body for the midfield and is a clearance king at VFL level and brilliant by foot. Last year his downfalls where that he didn't have the tank to play a full game in the midfield which often left him playing large portions of games at CHF and as a small defender, neither of which he would make it as at AFL level. This year he is playing games out in the midfield and needs to be given a go there. On top of that early this year I had a slight fear that he was getting a little lost in free play, so he had to win all his ball at the stoppages. That was probably adjusting to playing full games in the midfield and since then he is getting a lot more easy kicks to go along with his great clearance work. I really can't see why he isn't at least being tried in the midfield.

Exactly. And he has been one of our most consistently good players for 8 years.

The answer is below. Stanners would give O'Bree nothing in terms of strength and hardness, he's a better kick. better mark and if he ever got a chance at it, wouyld almost certainly be a better player.

Absolutely agree. It's bloody baffling!
