Skiing at the Birds Nest Beijing

Probably be like that come 2022

Why has Singapore or Switzerland never bidded, they're two of the wealthiest countries in the world?

Because they don't want athletes overstaying and claiming refugee status? They are nothing if not closed off to the rest of the world.

A Wollongong rep side played Benfica at Wollongong Showground in 75, and in the same year a club called Balgownie played Middlesborough in a suburban park in Woonona.

Wait. Benfica as in, the Portugese football club with the most members on the planet? Somewhere in the vicinity of 200,000 paid members?

The Benfica that normally plays games here:

????

That is truly bizarre.

Well sir, congratulations. You officially won the thread.

I award thee 4 internets points.

Michael Jackson played a concert at Olympic Park of all places back in the day. No idea how that one went down, the Graveyard was a shocker of a venue at the best of times.
On the subject of Baseball, one of the Melbourne teams used to play out at Moorabbin, and the Adelaide team in the current national comp plays at Norwood Oval. Obviously zero money for Americas Past time here.
In the MLS some teams are forced to play at vastly oversized NFL stadia while their own boutique "soccer specific" venues are built.

I think Wrestlemania IX held outdoors at Ceasers Palace has to be a contender for the strangest venue/event match up in history. What were they thinking?

Adelaide have just moved to a purpose built, but much smaller capacity, field at West Beach. Hopefully that means there'll be grass again inside the southern 50 metre mark at Coopers Stadium lol.

The MLB have just pulled their funding for the ABL too, the comp will be lucky to survive this season to be honest.

RIP those all you can drink packages?

My issue is that the Myer Bowl is too comfortable. It's too casual, too picnic rug-comfortable.

AC/DC fans didn't like it.

If I remember, the support act was The Angels. Wonder how many people got dragged out of the Bot Gardens the next morning.........................

Still more fun than Carols by Candlelight, though.

Guns N Roses are also playing at QEII. As mentioned there's no way they'll sell these shows out. The 'G seats what, 110,000 for concerts? The only acts who could sell that out are Taylor Swift, Coldplay, and maybe U2.

This is over my head but classic shit.
Gunners will sell out anywhere they play as Slash & Axl are back together.
Another interesting venue was Guns n' Roses at Calder Park in 93.
I think it might have been the only concert ever held there.

Wonder how many children named Daz, Shaz or Waz were conceived on that stinking hot day at the Thunderdome in 93

How about a boxing match at Adelaide oval with none of the fighters from SA? I suppose they will stick the ring next to the grand stand and put temporary seats on the oval. Will be hard to see from the back row.

I've read Mick Foley's book on wrestling. When starting out in the 'lower leagues' it's perfectly possible to be asked to wrestle in church halls, parks, racecourses etc. Whatever the 'centre' is of small country town you are in. His favorite place he wrestled was a bar.

1992 Cricket World Cup co-hosted by Australia and NZ was the first and I'm pretty sure only time every team has played each other ie no pool groups before the semi finals. It meant that they needed a lot of grounds. There were some odd ones in NZ but oddest one in Oz was Berri Oval in Berri ie South Australia's Riverland around 8,000 people town and 200kms from Adelaide hosted the West Indies v Sri Lanka game. Ray Mitchell Oval in Mackay got a game as did Eastern Oval in Ballarat as did Lavington Sports Oval in Albury. See all venues at
