So where are the ODI records going to finish up? There's no doubt that T20 has had a huge impact on expectations re run-rates. If you cant score at a S/R of 100, don't bother. If you are not capable of ramping it up to hit sixes on demand, don't bother. If you lose early wickets and find yourself in a situation where you need to grind it out, you've probably lost anyway. It's accepted that the boundaries will be tiny (just wait and see this summer in Australia).

The Australian batting line-up should be Warner, Finch, Watson, Bailey, Clarke, Maxwell, Faulkner, Cutting, don't-care-who-keeps-provided-he-can-hit, bowlers. Voges, Hughes - forget it. Next in line - White, Birt, etc. You might as well play White as the spinner - he's not really going to do much worse than a recognized one. Most wickets in ODIs are from slogs, or trying to milk a single from a ball that should be defended.

We've now seen 3 x 200s in ODIs. Hell, Finch scored 150 in a T20 last month. If a team went for it from the get-go and got lucky, 500 is certainly possible. In the famous Aus-vs-SA 438-434 game, the Saffies were 2/280 after 30.

Could an individual score 300?

i don't think we'll ever see 300. 200 was a matter of time, considering it's been done many times in List A formats

i think the next magical barrier broken will be 500 in an innings. but i don't think we'll see that for a long long time

with all of the records being broken now days, i was surprised that Simon O'Donnell's record for the fastest 50 Still stood, which he recorded way back in 1990

SOD's record came against Sri Lanka back when they were at Zimbabwe/Bangladesh level. He basically had a licence to slog every ball. It's hard to see how you could score 50 that much faster. When Finch made his 150 against England, he went from 100-150 in 13 balls. His eye was in etc, he was in pure slog mode. It's a bit harder to come out and start to bat at that level immediately.

Very true. But grounds where bigger those days as well, the bats where the size of tooth picks & a strike rate around 70 to 75 was considered great.
Think now days on postage stamp size ovals, huge thick bats & many more minor countries playing.
For sod's record to have sops so long is a good effort

20/20 has certainly redefined what's possible. Years ago in 50 over cricket, once the rate you were chasing got much more than a run a ball you were considered to be out of the contest - and that's usually the way it panned out too.

I think it's too early to set a glass ceiling on what's possible and what isn't.
