Time to vote and get this done. I can add a name to the poll but you guys probably would have already mentioned it in the 'improve the swans board' thread so we'll go with the above 10. Thanks to those who came up with ideas.

I juust want to add that a lot of us old timers are nostalgic for the hey day of the Troy Luff stand but over the last two years it's stagnated to a single thread five poster board. As older posters have disappeard or had children etc the board has stagnated and by naming it something that seems to be old and insular newer posters will probably ignore it.

A change of name and re branding is essential to a rebuild that will take over 12 months to 2 years to get it humming along properly again.

So to ensure the general chat returns to a fun, cheeky and vibrant board again a change to the new to protect the old is essential.

Good work on this Aussie, you have put a lot of time into it so thanks form us.

I understand your sentiments CAS but I fail to see how changing the name to say the Bob Skilton Bar will achieve anything other than a name change.
I'd suggest if there are issues with the current Board it is to do with functionality/interest etc, rather than any perceived stagnation due to its name.

Yes the post was made partially in jest, contains just a tad of hyperbole, but I actually believe in the underlying sentiments.

Not everything on the Board has to be about Skilton/Kelly/Kirk or the Bloods, sometimes it's just nice to reflect on & recognise the lesser lights, the Nick Smiths, rather the Adam Goodes.

So it's the quirky & long standing Troy Luff Stand for me.

What we do agree on is a new attitude on the board is needed regardless of name. Without that nothing will change. And it will take a year to regularly see new posters on it one way.

Personally, that's a load of crap. The Troy Luff Stand Board, was for the best part of 3 years a private board that you had to request access to, you couldn't just "stop by" and see it, nor what was posted in. Unless people were turned off by the Board when it was far more active before it went private, then anyone since who "stopped by" wouldn't even know about the board, other than would Aussie Gun has opened up to them and improved upon by merging it with the public general topic thread.

The Main Board is the Bread and Butter of the Swans Board, the sub forums are the places where natural growth happens. It can't be forced, it can't be staged and people can't be fooled by a name change it the sub forums themselves are basically the same in content and nature.

Greater Western Sydney Giants could rename themselves the Sydney Swans, doesn't make them any different to the what they currently are as a football club. Same with re-naming a sub-forum - it is what it is and its up to us all to make the change, not rename it and think job done. New posters won't flock to a renamed board if the Board stays the same content wise.

I don’t disagree with your final summary at all in fact I’ve said as much that the change and the renewal of what’s posted and how often will be the driving force more than the name change.

Opening it up to unrestricted access is the best start for renewal, it allows the natural growth your referring too. Yes the board needs to reinvent what is being posted to attract a broader audience. And the effort and time Aussie has put into this has already seen an upturn in activity on it, impressive considering the time period, which has not happened for 3 years.

There was brief flurry of new posters who did not stay or post much in there as the stagnation had already occurred. will a rebrand assist in a small way in seeing them or more people stop by. I don’t know but I don’t believe it will hurt in this attempt therefore it’s worth a shot to see if just a few more stop by. I will however support the results of the poll whichever way it turns out.

We disagree on a small factor, But regardless the work Aussie is doing needs to be supported by the regular posters like you and I in contributing at times to the General Discussion thread no matter what the name.

The changes already made will make a difference imo. Making the board public was obviously the key part. Then small changes like name changes, prefixes, directory etc. just add to the board. Good bunch of threads being routinely posted in the last few days.

Essendon, Hawthorn, Carlton and Collingwood are BF giants so we probably won't ever top them but compared to all the other team boards I'd already say we have one of the better off topic boards as it stands. I looked though all of the public ones and the majority move at a snails pace. Swans one is a hive of activity at the moment and hopefully it maintains pace for the future.

Maybe. That way it's more accurate I suppose. If TLS and Bob Skilton Bar are neck and neck I'd probably change my vote to Bob Skilton Bar. No issue if TLS wins but I'm leaning towards a fresh coat of paint.

True, I might give this until Thursday/Friday night then. Then give you guys the weekend to pick between what looks like being 'Bob Skilton Bar' and which ever Troy Luff one gets the most votes.
