Pretty much anyone young in Perth these days is screwed if they want to buy something now.

lol, I had to listen to my sister on the weekend complain about money and they now have to pay this and that.. They made an absolute killing in the estate boom, one of their houses in Vic Park they bought for less than 200k in 02 they just sold for 700k!!

One of the tougher things would be if you were a bloke. Buy a house, settle down with wifey and the 2.1 kids for a bit....then she decides to split with the kids. You lose your house- she gets it with all the whitegoods.. PLUS you have to pay maintenance...
Try starting again. And worse- try it with a second attempt at starting a family. :(
You'd have to have rocks in your head to want to go round again, I reckon.

I worked with a tradesman in my 3rd year of my apprenticeship that had recently spilt and had to sell their house, we worked out after he had paid all his maintenance I was taking home more money.

The wife of one of my cousins took off with his best mate. I just remember my auntie saying years later that it was pretty tough on him because he'd lost so much (had 3 kids), was always paying and paying and just couldn't get a head start on buying his own place.
That happened 20 years ago, though, and things might be different now.

I know of some blokes who quit work so they don't have to pay any money to the ex-wife. You can't pay it if you don't have it, can you?

First thing my legal studies teacher taught me. Dont sue anyone unless they have money. Otherwise you won't see a cent.

I saw Insight- was on sexual harrassment in the workplace. This poor woman had endured some of the worst kind of it, leading up to when she was drugged and r*ped at a workplace function.

She successfully sued the guy for thousands of $$, he filed bankruptcy, has not paid her a cent and she is out of pocket thousands for legal fees. Is a god damn joke.

And how many millions did Alan Bond have stashed away?

One thing I don't understand is why the penalties for fraud are often harsher than those for murder. :confused:

Yeah, Bond's definitely one that divides opinion- hero to some, villain to others. I know his wife and kids still had loads of money, despite him being declared bankrupt, and he goes and ditches his wife for a younger model a few years later. :confused: I just don't get it.
I sat near him at dinner one night- was not as impressed as some. Looked like he'd had too many corporate dinners.

how does that compare to their sentences for murder or manslaughter?

I get very hot under the collar when I see people get let off for killing people when they've been driving dangerously. For example, over here there was a bloke who was DUI and he killed a young girl who was crossing the road on her bike. His lawyers argued that, even had he been sober, he would not have been able to avoid hitting her... and they freakin' won!! :mad:
The thing that must've hurt her family the most, was that he was a repeat offender.

Then some 18 year old will hold up a couple of delis with a knife and get 20 years. Serious crime yes but not sure what locking up them for that length of time is going to achieve. I guess them being poor and not able to get a decent lawyer wouldn't help..

Yeah, that's terrible. Lots of hit-and-runs seem to happen over here. It's got to the point where if there is an accident the news report will say "the driver stayed at the scene" like it's a big surprise.

Just on lawyers, I have a very good one at the moment representing me for my accident. He's really good but geez they can be smooth talkers. They are like very good car salesmen with a better education and a nicer suit.
