I excitedly scanned the fixture to check when I would be able to cheer this new Roogeneration to a magnificent victory at the Gabbatoir - but no dice.

Glad the passionate WARoos get to see our mob twice next year.

2010 promises so much for us as we watch Scott take our beloved club back to where we want to be but I am bitterly disappointed that I miss out on even seeing my one game next year.

Guess I'll just have to save some filthy lucre so I can fly down to Melbourne for our victorious finals campaign.

2010 - finals again

The 2010 fixture has highlighted our 'littleness' in the AFL. I'm just not excited by our homes games being against interstate teams - boring

I respect your right to an opinion on this matter but unfortunately disagree strongly with it.

Your attitude is the type of one that must be changed- remember this is a national game so why continue to think of interstate teams as lesser than our Victorian counterparts:confused: I can empathise how you may feel like this but it is not healthy for you or the club-

Our people must learn to turn up to all games come rain, hail or shine, playing interstate teams or whatever because if you think of yourself as lesser others will too.
The AFL are brutally unfair to our club but we must show them that we are much, much better than they think.

2010 is going to be an outstanding year, on and off the field for the NMFC- our club is going to be positive, strong and confident for evermore:thumbsu:

Have spent a few days mulling over a fixture , am gutted would be fair to say.We built a decent rivalry with the Bombers during the 90's and just beyond , but the Afl ended that. We've now built a nasty and lets be honest hate -hate relationship with Hawthorn , which WAS great for our club(s). Now the AFL has ended that as well.

And to those that feel its an easy fix -just turn up in numbers, we don't have the numbers -32 000 odd members ,5000 of which live in WA (god bless 'em all i say) one at least living in Darwin -how many of that lot are able to 'turn up' weekly?- If we can get 26 000 to any game featuring Freo , Port , Adelaide , Bris , GC & WS in time( lets be honest we'll be playing those 2 new sides in Vic as well) we would then get 50 000 to every other home class involving Vic clubs- ain't going to happen for yrs at best. And i know a sh!t load of North fans that live in the outer east & the odds on them turning up to watch Freo etc are bloody slim.

Add in the need for foxtel and the cost of a decent seat at the Dome and gees its an expensive passion being a North fan.

Also i'd say we'll be having a bye during season 2011 during rivalry round.Fack me i've just about had enough of AFl and Demetriou , i think ita almost time North spoke to a lawyer with regards of a being sh@t on by this comp- i thought all clubs were equal stake holders? There's no point the Afl making EXTRA millions if its at the detriment of our boys!!

Why din't my bloody cousin play in a premiership with another club , save me a lot of grieve.:D

And this is part of the huge challenge the club faces, not to just survive but thrive. Converting your mates from theatre goers to devoted Roo for Life members who pay up and show up come rain hail or shine would definitely make the job of JB and Euge a whole lot easier.

Don't get me wrong, there's no disrespect intended towards your mates. They are a perfect example of what we as supporters can not afford to be. The only way we are going to get more free to air games on the box, a better draw, etc is to get a decent crowd, win games and play finals. The AFL requires the whole package, because all they are concerned about is maximising the dollar as they run the whole comp as a business.

The battle to remain in Melbourne may have been won, but the war certainly hasn't.

ya dead right Groggyk & I hope they make some effort next season & we'll also try and get there more often. By the by i just goggled the Surburbs of North and Collingwood - nearly twice as many people live in North Melbourne than Collingwood, was very suprised with that. The other thread talking about drafting that Sudanese young fella- we really need to do that me thinks.
Look i'm just really disappointed atm - i love playing Hawthorn twice and we'll only get 4 points from 'em next season

Someone tell me if I'm wrong, but I thought the new stadium deals meant an EXTRA $100K per game (ie. if we lost $130K on a $14K crowd against Port this year, it would still be a $30K loss in 2010 for a similar crowd). If this is right, & given that the AFL has completely pantsed us financially with this draw, then have there been any changes to the additional funding the likes of us & Melbourne receive from the AFL? Surely to goodness we must get some compensation with a draw as bad as this.

Can we do something about this urban myth that 5,000 out of our 32,000 members come from WA?

from what all people have stated is that football wise draw is good, financial wise its not so good........you have to take into consideration that we are 1 of 16 sides, the others would have a wish list as well. Ever since the interstate sides started coming into play the draw has always been a bone of contention for footy clubs. Footy department/ financial department wise. Maybe to stop clubs complaining about the more powerful clubs taking greater gate takings is come up with a . That formula I dont want to try to suggest.

however I will come on with some factors a formula could use.
side"A" membership total:- full time/part time/cat-dog affliates.... whatever
side"B" " " "

Sides "A and B" position from the previous year. this also counter acts and may address tanking issue!!!

type of deals clubs have with their respective home stadiums.

It probably has been bandied before at afl meetings regarding stadium deals etc I don't know. Maybe these people have taken a suck it "N" see approach and this will evolve in years to come.......one thing is for sure one team or another ever year won't be happy

Can someone explain to me the stadium deal. I was under the impression that having all home games at Etihad (only a couple of games for that matter) would leave us with a huge hole in our back pocket. And to be playing the likes of Freo there would only compound the situation. We were having to pay Collins at stages during the season.

This 100k a match, is that a flat amount? If we only get a few 1000 at a Freo match, do we get 100k, then have to hand some back for shit attendance? how does it work?

I haven't been paying much attention to the news, which probably isn't a great reflection on me given I work in the media.

Etihad deal gives clubs windfall

THE AFL has ended its legal war with management of Etihad Stadium.

The truce came as Melbourne Stadiums Limited agreed to provide an additional $5.5 million a year to clubs that use the venue for home matches in exchange for an increase in the number of games to be played there.
Etihad Stadium will host 46 matches a year from 2010 to 2014, and at least 40 matches a year from 2015 to 2025, when the AFL takes ownership of it.
Before the new deal, announced yesterday, the AFL had contractual rights to reduce the number of matches played at Etihad Stadium to as few as 30 a year from 2015.

That made me laugh.

Hadn't thought about that.

Re: OFFICIAL 2010 Fixture

Already organised with a Brisbane supporter mate of mine to drive up for that game, and then going up for the brisbane one towards the end of the year :thumbsu:

The drive up must be a solid six to eight can trip I'd say (depending on traffic).

Hope to catch up with you. It's always good to meet those who share a passion for the mighty NMFC.

One report stated no theme rounds. I assume these are AFL themes? I would think Richmond and North would continue with the Eureka game, as it was never an AFL initiative?

They said "no more themed ROUNDS" but there will still be themed games, so yeah, I'd assume so jschwag.
