I can see Neeld going for Wines. Looking back on the players he's favoured pretty much all of them are hard at it work-horses. Tynan, Magner, Clark, Sellar. Look at wines profile, strong bodied, attacks the footy hard, endurance, tackles well. All of these are qualities Neeld has been talking about instilling in our players all year, defensive skills, exactly what we need more of.

Big wraps on Taggert. Was all but an inclusion against Sydney in Round 8 then was injured for the rest of the season.

Yep, love the way Taggert looks, really good skills, can't recall how fast he is, our midfield is pretty damn slow in its current state.

Yeah I think that's the thing is that from all reports Grundy is pretty much ready to go and will be a good age for a premiership window. If viney slips we could take 2 mids and a future ruck from 3 picks in the top 30 without allowing for pick in the teens.

Don't worry about how many rucks we have now, I can't remember a time when we had a full compliment to pick from anyways. there is generally at least 2 injured all the time. How many of those rucks are good enough to play in a premiership team? Maybe 2 as is.

Jamar speaks for himself. Will be #1 for a year or two - but who know when his body will stop yielding.

Martin may be traded, but really should be our CHF and second ruck.

Spencer is your meat and potatoes, 'happy to have a spot on the list', third choice.

Gawn has a huge ceiling, but may not make it at all.

Fitzpatrick will find himself more at home in a forward pocket as a third tall option.

Sellar, when he has a spot, is capable but undersized.

This was a disappointing year, with multiple injuries for Stef, and he struggled to make a mark as he has in recent times. And so the dominoes start falling. GC trade pick 2 for a mini-draft pick, giving GWS 1 and 2 in the ND. SURELY GWS will take Grundy at 2, they need a high quality ruckman. That leaves Toumpas at 3, and I reckon Wines at 4. Oh and some kid called Viney at 26, I hear he goes alright.

Wines obviously has the Melbourne fan factor, plus good mates with Viney as per the article in The Age on Saturday. Get around him.

If we kept pick 3 and 4 we use pick 3 on the best available mid, then take Jake Stringer at 4.

Both Hogan and Stringer are 'smaller' KPF (Jack Darling types), both tested well at the combine.

My points are towards taking Stringer, if he is worthy of pick 4.

1. No 'go home' factor; Hogan from WA, Stringer from Bendigo
2. Similar body types and potential; on paper can't lose.
3. Stringer, if fit, is available for selection throughout 2013. Hogan would be at Casey for 12 months. Stringer could be given a better program for development mixing VFL and AFL football.

Hogan's 193 cms but he's still only 17, so he could potentially be 195 cms+ by the time he's ready to play seniors in 2014. Stringer's only 191 cms, and from what I gather long term he'll play as midfield/utility Goddard type player. Hogan is a genuine KPF in the mould of a Jonathon Brown, with elite endurance and speed off the mark. I wouldn't worry about the 'go home' factor...We've got a really good coaching group and a promising list...i'd back us to retain whoever we pick.

I think pick #3 for Hogan and pick #4 for Wines, Toumpas or O'Rourke would be the way to go.

I don't want Hogan also. Stringer might not make it to 13, that's why I asked.

Preferred 3 and 4 picks would be mids anyway, e.g. Wines, Toumpas, O'Rouke etc.

If we're going after Dawes why the hell would we need Hogan? Move Clark to the ruck? HELL NO.

Edit: though, having thought about it - would prefer Hogan at FF and Clark at CHF, and let Dawes stay or go to Footscray or something.

I think we've only been bitten by the 'go home' factor once (Scott Thompson); most players leave the Dees because they don't get the opportunity they want and/or deserve... or they're arrogant pricks whose ego makes them believe their ability precedes the club (e.g. Moloney, C. Johnson and McLean)

True, but I think we're in a much better position to deal with those sort of issues now. As for those three, I think it was more a case that they saw the writing on the wall. Do people from Perth who move to Melbourne really get homesick?

This guy is the forgotten link.. Seen enough to know where he stands, and it is certainly in our best 22..He will be a very good footballer and will surprise many!!

He will be... he has the making of a good half back.. I know he wasn't overly convincing this year, but a year on from a broken leg and a solid pre-season, he will be a valuable part of the Dees finals push..

Yep, I hate how players like Brown, Pavlich, Cloke, Darling and Hawkins have turned out.

Can you offer a good explanation for not wanting Hogan?

He's got everything you want in a KPP - he's strong, aggressive and an impressive athlete (agility/speed/etc).

His endurance is up there with the best in THIS draft (as a 17 year old).

Like Darling he'll shed a fair bit of weight upon entry to the AFL system - it's not like he's a ripped machine at the moment, the beauty for us is that he has a year to develop at Casey.... I'd back him to enter 2014 as the most ready to go KPF prospect in years.

His set shot needs work, but the main problem is that he doesn't have a routine - and regardless he's still kicked bags of goals.
