i reckon round 1 we'll get gws or port on a saturday afternoon.

how many friday night games do we all think we'll get this year? i'm hoping at the very least 2

Port will have an away fixture for round 1 so we might have them at Etihad.
I expect round 2 will be a game in Hobart vs. Gold Coast

Swans to get a Giant advantage

As the AFL puts the finishing touches to the full schedule, to be revealed at the end of the month, the league revealed some of the big picture features of the 2013 season.

The league's desire to embed the GWS Giants into the national competition will mean a leg-up for the Swans, who will get to play their local rivals twice.

The top 4 from 2012 - Sydney, Hawthorn, Collingwood and Adelaide - will all only play the bottom four - GWS, Gold Coast, Melbourne and Western Bulldogs once in 2013, except for the Sydney derbies.

A league spokesman said where possible the eight finalists from 2012 will all be programmed to have a maximum of two return meetings with bottom-10 sides from 2012.

The 10 non-finalists from 2012 will all be scheduled to have a maximum of two return meetings with top eight sides from 2012.

There will be two Monday night games in 2013, with the Round 7 game to be held in Melbourne and a Round 10 fixture in Perth on the holiday Monday in Western Australia.

There will be four Thursday games in 2013 with a fixture in Round One, two Anzac Day games between Collingwood and Essendon and the historic St Kilda vs Sydney clash in New Zealand, and a Round 14 night game in Perth.

Patrick Keane is announcing more fixture changes for next year.

The top 4 from 2012 (Syd, Haw, Coll, Crows) will all only play bottom 4 (GWS, GC, Melb, WB) once in 2013, except 2x Swans/GWS meetings.

Good. We're a chance to get gifted 3-4 wins again.

The 10 non-finalists from 2012 will all be scheduled to have a maximum of two return meetings with top eight sides from 2012.

WTF does that mean?

WTF does that mean?

It means that they'll put a minor amount of effort into obscuring the issues created by having the "popular" teams play each other twice. And yes, hopefully it means a slight leg up, although will also mean a bit of travel enforced stupidity - as usual.

so we most likely will play away in our first game. Great, we dont see north in Melbourne till maybe round 4?

Our 1st 3 games were home games this year and we got to see them twice. Our first game can still be at home. Our draw was good in 2012 - swings and round abouts if it is not as good.

The 5 double ups for me will be:

One of Ess, Pies and Blues.
Now Swans and Port are in our first 6 games I think we will get them both twice.
Dogs or Melb twice
WCE or Freo twice.

Like this year we got 3 interstate twice (Suns, GWS and WCE), 1 high drawing Vic side (Ess) and one low drawing Vic side (Dogs).

WCE, Swans, Blues, Dogs and Port is my tip. I just hope we get the Eagles at Etihad.

That would be a soft draw compared to the other finalists then as we'd have 3 of the bottom 8 teams twice.

I have a feeling we will get 2 top 8 teams and 3 that missed. I think the AFL will target the top 4 teams and we will fall into the whats left basket - low drawing teams that need to be filled with with double up games. Port, Dogs and Dees will be prime targets by the AFL for us.

I'm glad we're playing Sydney down there & in round 2. Could be a real boost if we could knock off the reigning premier so early ...although beating Geelong this year didn't seem to help our first half of the season as much as we all thought it was going to.

I dunno.

F*** im missing football season.

Looking forward to the full draw & planning my interstate trips.

the West Coast game was sold out.

Correct. Syd game will be too.

PA is a bit disappointing for locals, but in saying that Tas did stipulate no GC or GWS so in that sense its fair enough and can't expect two good clubs so early into the venture.

****ing Sydney.

The worst ***ing side in the AFL that we could be drawn to play against in Hobart.

It may as well be a home game for them.

While the AFL fixture is yet to be confirmed, the Kangaroos will host Sydney at Blundstone Arena in round two, on either Saturday, April 6 or Sunday, April 7.

Further to this, Hobart's second game is likely to be in round six or seven against Port Adelaide.

Brother being a swans supporter, sound like a road trip to me!

Different state rules apply
