Re: Bryce Gibbs in Bays' best

why do we think that sons of past great players are going to be as good or better than their fathers? They do get some genes from the mother too remember ;) Can anyone really name a father/son that has lived up to the fans expectations?

Ben Cousins, Gary Ablett Jr, Jonathon Brown, Chad and Kane Cornes. That's just current players off the top of my head without putting too much thought into it.

I know what you're saying, though. Teams have to avoid being too sentimental and taking sons of former players just for the sake of it. Collingwood are facing that criticism at the moment.

Re: Bryce Gibbs in Bays' best

Any videos of him of pics of him playing anyone? do you know where you can find them? Really itching to get a look at him.

Re: Bryce Gibbs in Bays' best

There was a small pic of him in the sunday mail.

Re: Bryce Gibbs in Bays' best

Oops. Not Sunday Mail, it was Friday's Advertiser I think. Sorry. It was in the paper whatever day that article on James Fantasia was, because it was part of that. It was only a pic of his face though.

Ok thanks for that. Still no one has the weight of Bryce?

can't tell you an exact figure but he has a biggish frame (broad shoulders) and will fill out nicely over time. He isn't a skinny runt but there's not a lot of muscle definition on him yet. His weight now is irrelevant.

Crows fans should be excited.
The kid's just turned 16 and is playing league in the SANFL.
Even by todays standards that's a rare feat.
That is an indicator of just how good he is already.
The only thing bigger than his potential is his ego.

The only other comment I would add on his debut is that Booga Lewis (Norwood Coach) left him alone all day. I can't believe he didn't try and get one of his players to "test" him physically. I will almost guarantee that will happen this week against the ********s. It will be interesting to see how the young fella handles it.

he looked young 16ish so it might be a good sign for him growing taller

Re: Bryce Gibbs on 9 News Tonight. Quick!

Saw it and its one of those usual channel 9 beat ups. They showed a bit of video footage from Bryce's league debut and spoke to Darren Travena. DT said that Bryce is as good a talent as we have had coming through the academy in recent times. Right up there with Cooney and Griffen.

I just wish the media would stop pumping up his tyres. If Bryce does get picked up by us he would be under enourmous pressure as it is. The last thing he needs it media saying he will be the next AFL great.

Re: Bryce Gibbs on 9 News Tonight. Quick!

If he turns out as good as Griffen or Cooney and we get him under the F/S imagine what the other clubs would be like

Re: Bryce Gibbs in Bays' best

The boy and he is a boy has made a great debut, let us all wait a year or two before we anoint him as the next big thing. Sanity prevails.

Re: Bryce Gibbs in Bays' best

Seb Paynter (John Paynter's son) is running around in the Sturt U17s and looking the goods at this level.

Round 6 Vs Glenelg - Seb Paynter again was solid all day on and around the ball.

Best: James Hughes, Tom Anderson, Nick Wark, Seb Paynter, Henry Hodge, John McDonald

Round 5 Vs West - Seb Paynter on the ball provided the forwards with opportunities to compete one on one.

Best: Tom Hurley, Jack Martin, Nick Wark, Seb Paynter, Henry Hodge, James Byers

Round 4 Vs North - ably supported by Seb Paynter.

Best: Dylan Hogarth, Tom Anderson, Seb Paynter, James Byers, Tom Hurley, Henry Hodge, Jack Martin

Round 3 Vs Eagles - Seb Paynter worked well in combination, swapping between half forward and on the ball.

Best: Tom Hurley, Darren Hein, Tom Anderson, James Smith, Seb Paynter, Dylan Hogarth, Josh Irwin

Round 2 Vs Port - while Seb Paynter was solid all day.

Best: Joshua Irwin, Tom Hurley, John McDonald, Dane Winra, Darren Hein, Seb Paynter, Dylan Hogarth

Sturt had the bye in Round 1 of the SANFL.

Given that he's 15 going on 16 perhaps a target for the future for us.

Re: Bryce Gibbs in Bays' best

I am actually old enough to remember Seb's old man running around and he sure had silky skills. Hopefully if he is like his father we will snaffle another f/s selection.

We should start a poll in a new thread - "What are the odds of Andy D changing the FS rule before November 2006 ?"

Same could be said with Jesse Smith and Morton I guess. These guys were both touted as first rounders.

It's really exciting that the AFC will have Gibbs on our books in 2007. It's about time we received a father/son 'break'. Especially after the Cornes' boys slipped our grasp. However, I agree with you Stiffy. The poor kid is gonna' have alot to live up to by the time he runs onto the ground for his first AFL match.

Let's hope he has a good disposition and copes with it all.

Quite right. Lets all settle down have a bex and let the BOY get on with playing football. The last thing he needs are supporters blowing up his tyres before he even has completed one full season of local footy.

I'll be satisfied when we have him on our books, up until then i'll keep on looking over my shoulder.

The powers that be can adjust many a rule within the next couple of years. :o

Good call Noddy, agree completely and I wouldn't put it past Andy D and his pro victorian merry men.

They are pretty quick to act on items that are in victorian interests (brisbane salary cap) and not so quick on other items (MCC contract).
