Re: Scott Thompson: Some inside info please?

It really is a shame we can't elevate VFL players in a similar fashion to Rookies. As we had to use a pick on him , I'm sure the Cats would have taken Thompson but probably with a late pick.Looking at our picks we really seemed to be hunting for a more a KPP rather than another medium tall backman.

The Cats have a good history with going with the guys they know as long as they get them for what they feel they are worth. Its judgemental. We took Egan with P62 and what a bargain it turned out to be. We didn't draft Davenport waited till the rookie draft. So we drafted him as a Rookie and have now elevated him , he too may end up a bargain. Actually Thurley was a VFL player that we used very early pick for and maybe thats why we arn't to keen to pull the early trigger.

There is a another kid from the same GFL club as Thompson, (South Barwon) He is now signed up to play for our VFL side. His name is Sam Stavinuter , it wouldn't suprise me if he ended up being another kid we wish we could simply elevate. Worth watching IMO

Re: Scott Thompson: Some inside info please?

There's no question Geelong wanted to draft him. Pick 50 looks the right fit as I feel we were quite keen on the two Simpson boys at #34 and #44 respectively. Its also apparent from the way Geelong have used Harry Taylor our first round pick that we were keen for another KPP in defense to sure up our depth in that area of the ground. Scott Thompson will never be big or strong enough to play in a KPP on a regular basis....if at all really....and this was at the heart of the decision making as far as Geelong was concerned that Scotty didnt warrant a higher pick.

We did everything right but the cards just didnt fall our way. I am quite happy to have Dan McKenna at Geelong anyway our subsequent pick 50...no complaints.

Our opinion on Josh Hunt for supercoach this year guys?
I reckon he's gonna have a much better year this year, and get back those '06 supercoach numbers.

Re: Dream Team Question

Hi guy's can you tell me how Varcoe is going.I have heard from a few Geelong supporters that he should have been in the Grand Final team instead of Byrnes. Will he start in the first game of the year.

No. Byrnes might retain his spot simply because he is not doing enough wrong. Gets bagged on here but ahead of Varcoe. Varcoe will play minimal games.

glad to see this opened, hate annoying other teams fans just for dt

just 2 concerns i hope someone could clear up, is there something wrong with steve johnson? from memory i heard he had a niggle
and wats happening with chappy? is he fit and raring to go or still little niggles from last year?

Re: Dream Team Question

Do you Geelong supporters think Prismall is looking like getting some decent gametime this year, playing close to every match ??

Supercoach maybe, Dream Team no. Hunt scores consistently well in Supercoach due to his disposal accuracy... Dream Team doesn't reward for accuracy, nor punish players for mistakes anywhere near as harsh as Supercoach does.
Bottom line is he didn't have as bad a year (statistically) as everyone makes out. This is reflected by his cost this year in SC. He scored over 100 several times in the latter part of the season.

The other issue is the Hunt often takes a key defensive role. Players typically don't score too well if this is the case as they're main objective is player stopping.. Scarlett, Glass etc.
Mackie may score better this year, he very rarely takes an important opponent and just runs around off half back. Then again, his disposal is still average at best so DT yes, SC no.

On a side note I think Supercoach is the superior. In Dream Team you just go for the cheap stat getters... quality of disposal almost irrelevant.

It would be awesome if he did, but its hard to see who he would replace. He is a good player though, and if we dont give him some consistent game time we will lose him.

Get on board the Stokes train for Dream team this year. He is getting better on a consistent basis and is set to explode this year. I bet anything on it.

Gee would I love for Prismall to come to Essendon, should get some gametime because our midfield is obviously weaker than yours and should rack up those DT points....Thanks for the advice...:thumbsu:

Re: Scott Thompson: Some inside info please?

TwOKbydesign,

As inferred above, you got a steal with Thompson - nearly BOG in all the late season games last year. Kicking can be a bit up and under and not super quick but impressive in all other facets, particulalry in play reading. Was the only downer in an otherwise perfect season that we didn't get him. Guess we owed North one for Mooney.

No guarantee (because he did not get games over duds like Byrnes) but it would appear so. He was not traded or really floated as far as I know. Has been prolific in the pre season this year as far.

His price is still a damn lot for someone who may not get a game but he has done about all he can do and if any midfield or midfield rotation players get injured I'd expect him straight in.

There is no concerns with S.J, kicked 5 in the first match rested in the 2nd then I think given limited game time in the 3rd. Should be much better this week.

Chapman had adductor release surgery similar to Judd & Ball except his condition wasn't nearly as bad. Late start to preseason so has only played the last game. It wouldn't surprise me to see him start the season slowly.

Just wondering your thoughts on if Paul Chapman is worth picking in my inital SC side. I get the feeling he might start the year a bit slowly, and I'm worried he's not quite 100% as yet. (Which is a pity because I love watching him play)

Also Harry Taylor - is he getting towards being a lock for Round 1 with Matty Egan out?

Good luck this year guys, have always had a soft spot for the Cats having married a Geelong girl and going to uni down there. Hope you make it back to back this year.

PS - Any Richmond SC questions - feel free to ask and I'll do my best.

Thoughts on Newman.

Where will Newman play.

Chappy had the same surgery that Judd had so I would say he not worth it to start with.

Harry Taylor is probably 50/50 in my mind.

Chapman may start a little slow due to Adducter surgery, but should have a better season this year.
Taylor i'm not sure about.

Does anyone know what's happened to the sc/dt board here on bigfooty? I can't seem to find it.
They've split them up into separate boards. They are there though.
