The other issue with Murphy is that he is currently contracted which means that the Dockers have bargaining power with him. Next season, he could well use the PSD and shaft us buy going to Richmond. From how I understand it, this season we have the power to keep him if a reasonable trade doesn't come up.

Having said all that, if he's committed to Freo then we should be committed to him. He's more athletic and versatile that he has shown so far I reckon. There is no way he will ever be an AA, he just doesn't work hard enough in games for that, but as a significant target up forward that can work up the ground when needed, then he has great potential - potential that has to be seen very soon though if keeping him is going to seem worth it.

Farren Ray couldn't even get a consistent game this year in a team that was worse than ours, so realistically, we'd be getting screwed if we swapped Murphy for him. I reckon the second rounder alone should be enough for Ray and keep Murph in the purple for another couple of years at least.

Ray is highly rated down at the Doggies and although many have been skeptical, Ray's workrate and second efforts have improved exponentially. He won't be a star but he'll be a very, very solid and handy player. A second rounder for Ray is laughable. He'll be a good player given time.

I know that Farren Ray isn't the most highly rated player in the world, but he would be more use to us that Murphy at the minute - a straight swap would be fair.

Haha. No. Bulldogs would never swap Ray for Murphy in a straight swap. We'd probably ask for your first rounder as well, and Freo would rightfully tell us where to go. I think Ray and Murphy are at times in their careers where their trade values right now are a lot less than their likely value in one to two years. You're better off hanging onto Murphy unless someone offers you a first rounder.
