I no this is early days but can they be our FF/CHF duo for the future or must we start looking to recruit an experianced forward (roughead, pavlich etc)?

Doing ok atm. Would love Roughy so the Hendo can play further up the ground.

It will take 1 full year for everyone to adjust to the new style (minus Fev) and Waite will be much better come next year.

Content right now, but another gun forward could do us really well

So far so good with these 2. They would of been the talk of the town had their mark attempts stuck against Brisbane. Even though the partnership is only 2 games old and are still gelling, they are still scoring goals. They could end up being a more than handy Twin Towers combo.

Setanta is 27 and has had his injury concerns, so while he looks like being a handy forward for a few years, he likely won't be there long term.

While Roughead would be brilliant, we do have a number of players on list, one of whom you'd hope would make it as a forward. Tiller, Casboult, Donaldson, Hampson, even Austin if the MC think he's surplus to need in defence (don't think so myself). Waite is an option, Kreuzer can rest up forward though he's much better in the ruck.

why would roughead want to come to carlton?

we wouldn't be able to work out a trade with hawthorn aswell unless we give up one of our best midfielders or defenders

some of you people smoke too much meth

Can people realise that Henderson is in his THIRD year.......THIRD!

Name some other forwards that have done what he is soing in his third year (and most of them wouldn't have come of a season of playing CHB).

I think you'll find he is in elite company. When his confidence goes up and up he will be a gem.

Roughead will not leave Hawthorn...you can bookmark it. It will never happen.

One that i think you should throw the kitchen sink at is Taylor Walker. Looks to be a very good young player and has shown more than a lot of forward in their 3/4th year.

Just a player coming out of contract, who quite clearly is capable as a No.1 target yet is second fiddle to Buddy that people like to speculate on.

When you consider our huge 'war chest' of salary cap room it's not unthinkable.

Seen their ruck department lately?

Sure they would want a bit but as we've gathered heaps of youth over the past few years a player/pick combo wouldn't hurt us too much, especially not when gaining the services of a gun 23 year old.

As for staying on topic, hey it's been working really well so far probably not as potent-dangerous as you'd like but you cannot fault it so far.

Pretty happy how these two have been going so far

Am not really interested in recruiting a roughie or pav, they'd come at too much a price. And Pav's not young. so I don't really see his value to when our premiership window opens

Would be interested in recruiting Trengove from PA (i think), in exchange for Jacobs and someone else, I guess, provided the price ain't ridiculous or anything

With Carlos at 27 / 28 or so, Trengove could be a good replacement down the track and my mouth froths at a forward line of Trengove and Hendo

Couldn't have realistically asked for too much more from Setanta and Henderson than what they have shown us thus far this season.

Setanta has really flourished in a Fev-less forward line & is loving being the main target up front. He's certainly no superstar but with bags of 4 and 3 to start the season, he could well be someone that gets 40+ goals for us in 2010 which would be a fantastic achievement. He's not a long term solution but for the next few seasons he can be a very handy option for us.

For someone that is just 20 years of age and entering his 3rd season of AFL football, Lachie has exceeded expectations & will only improve. He already has a big frame (but will get bigger) and has already made an impact on the scoreboard in his first 2 games for us. What he cannot do yet is have an impact throughout an entire game and has faded in both games but that has to do with youth and will no doubt improve as he gets more games into him.

Both Carlos and Hendo have been very good and should do very well for us and for a number of seasons going forward. I'd love us to get another gun tall forward but someone like Roughead would cost too much in terms of what we'd have to give to Hawthorn in return. Just have to go through the draft and see what we can unearth, if we haven't already got them on the list, mind you I'd say at least one of the young talls we have on the rookie/senior list will make it as a tall forward. They just need time.

I know that it is early days yet, but the few games that I have seen so far is the forward line is sort of "organised chaos". It seems that even of the ball is keeing up forward we are scoring from these two more by chance than skill.
Carlos seems to doing OK, but in reality his set shots at goal isn't any better than Fev's was, misses easy ones and gets the harder ones.
I don't think Henderson's strength is in his marking, unfortunately for a key position player, this is paramount.
Hope the guys prove me wrong though!

Trengove would do wonders for our tall stocks, but would cost us someone like a Hampson.

Or an Austin and a pick.

Trengove jumped over Naitanui in the NAB Cup.

Wouldn't come cheap. :(

A fringe benefit is Trengove already has a negative byline the Herald-Sun can attach to every article on Carlton players...

Port's Jackson Trengrove fined for smashing windscreen

Is Franklin's strength his contested marking or his marking on the move? ;)

I reckon Roughead would be the better mark.

Hell, even Brad Fisher would arguably have a better pair of hands than Franklin who has dropped simple marks that the likes of Kernahan, Riewoldt, Brown, Hart and Carey would swallow.

You're way off the mark here if you think Henderson won't be a player because he isn't a great mark.

Fisher is the prime example of a player who can mark, but lacks the requisite skill, pace and mobility needed to be an AFL forward.

The only way Roughead would leave is if Franklin and Lewis were bundled in the trade together. Best mates.

To get all 3, well, it would take more than the entire list, I'd think.

Roughead won't leave.

I have to ask, have you?

Taylor, Bailey, Lowden are on the LTI list, Skipper is injured and Grimely is far too raw for AFL level.

Renouf is our only fit ruck at the moment, but anymore than 6 ruckman on an AFL list is freakin insane.

I think that Setanta will be quite good as our main forward for the next 3-4 years (injuries permitting) with the intention of developing Levi to be our next forward.

He should be hitting his straps right at the right time to be included in several of our next lot of premierships. I think that Setanta will play in our first... but it will be just as he is starting to reach the end of his career at the blues.

And after all the shit he has received over the years, I reckon he deserves to go back to ireland with a premiership medal around his neck.

They're both going ok at the moment, and as we all know, our forward line is a work in progress. Some weeks it will work, and other weeks it won't. The forgotten man here is Waite, who can really do some damage up there, and why our forward line will go ahead big time now that Fevola is no longer at the club.

Kennedy couldn't catch it to save himself, but got his hands to a lot of ball.

LH is a better mark than Kennedy was, and with some time and confidence will prove you wrong. I have no doubt.

Because we are up to our eyeballs in ruckmen, something the hawks are seriously lacking.

Quality over quantity may have some say in the mix.
Wouldn't you think?

Develop Casboult / Donaldson to assist Henderson long term with Waite/Fish being 3rd option.

Let's be honest. We'd be more than lucky to have even one of the boys come through, as promising as they may look right now.

I think most of us here would feel that our future CHF/FF will come from another source.

True, but the reports from practice matches and Bullants games so far (I've put them on his page on the buddy draft) it looks like Donaldson is a good chance to make it.

I've commented on several occasions of my feelings with Donaldson.
Watching the kid first hand suggests he has no problems kicking goals from 50mts. out.
I don't feel anywhere near as good with Levi at this stage.

The situation may just be that we'll earmark a CHF/FF end year and with the likelihood of Hendo cementing his spot, where does that leave the other boys?

Having such a young starting 22 even now, there won't be too many spots for even very good players in the not too distant future.
