Sheahan and Walls area joke....

Were 5th, even after playing crap according to the media, and now apparently can't make the 8... Still have Freo twice, Eagles, Dees, Bombers again (assuming they are all still easy beats when we meet), and yet were still not gonna make it. Mike Sheahan is a tool..

And of course, we 'got out of jail' on the weekend - even though for the past 3 weeks the tigers have been pumped up... but of course beating them wasn't good enough. I understand there was a kick after the siren, but ffs, what do we have to do to impress these w***ers? The idiots then turn around and say if collingwood weren't playing hawthorn, they would have won on the weekend.. THEY GOT SMASHED BY 65!!! What a joke. I'm about to hurl my Foxtel box out the window.

And Walls goes on...

Reckons Lenny and Banger are the only ones performing...Logical thing to say after this is that "gee, they're 5th in spite of this", but no, they rant on...

IMO Roo has been doing well all season, ball has been doin very well considering i still think his groins are not well.. Bj doing super after a reco... kingy was doing great before injury...milne has kicked 20 i think...but apparantly we only have 2 performers so far..

stick it up 'em saints.

In fairness to On The Couch, St.kilda did not play well against Richmond. In fact, the Essendon match was our only really good performance.

Do you think we are going to beat most of the top 8 sides playing like these? Need to improve ten fold. We got smashed in the conested ball. I have no idea how Richmond could possibly have lost after winning so many more contested possessions than St.kilda.

Although it's harsh, i do not exactly feel what Mike said was clueless. Factor in the injuries, it's not going to be easy to make the eight.

I still have hope:)

Sheahan's just cut because he tipped us to challenge Geelong and now we're not looking the goods and making him look bad in front of his media buddies and is now overcompensating by tipping us to not make the 8. Also missed Richo out of his pre-season top 50, why doesn't he write an article on that? Most of his writing is pure speculation and he has about as much footy knowledge as the average bigfooty poster, seriously anyone on here could write up a pre-season top 50 and get it about as right as he does.

That said we are playing shithouse. If Kelvin Moore wasn't a massive unco we would be 11th right now (which would be bullshit if you take into account the free goal to Simmonds for nothing, but I digress). But if anything 4 wins whilst playing shithouse and well below our best says something, and I maintain if we got it together we can make top 4. But at the moment we are playing shit and deserve to cop it, eventually it's got to fire up the boys, surely? Credit in the media is the last thing we want, we've been talked up for too long, maybe being told we're no chance will give us back underdog status and we can sneek deep into the finals and stick it to them.

Ugh idiot. Heard of Max Wallsy? Ball? King? All been doing as good as they can. Montanga, Sam Fisher and Riewoldt have been doing good as well. Walls needs to spend less time spanking the sausage over Judd and more time watching us play.

I gather you were reading the stats. Our efficiency got us home.

Injuries aren't that bad -roo will only miss 2-3 actual games (pies, lions, dees - 1 and 3 are good chances) and goose wasn't exactly having an impact.. x is replaceable for 3 games as well.

It's this kind of negative sh!t that gets to me. As moronid ac tigers and bombers and pies fans are, they have faith every week and cheers even harder when the chips are down - something we can learn from.

That's the problem - the pricks wont leave us alone,. It's like they enjoy putting the pressure on.. we finished 9th last year, and yet were tipped for 1st or 2nd.. Why? Cos of King an Schneider? The pricks just look for a team to pile the pressure on so they have something to write about when were not 7-0. w***ers

Probably because 3 of the 4 teams that you have beaten are not top 8 material and now Reiwoldt is out for a month or so.

I think that you'll find a lot of people are having doubts about the Saints this year after initially thinking that they would be top 4.

Agree, but you can only beat who you play, yes i know you have to beat the best to be the best, but losses against 2 unbeaten teams and the power aren't massive warning signs for me..yet..nobody would be saying anythign if we'd beaten just one of those teams...guess we didnt..point im trying to make is that were always rated, when were not worthy. when the media were looking for a team to challenge geelong, we were a simple thoughtless choice .. "yeah. lets go with the saints" - actual thought process would have revealed port and hawks as the next.. port made the effing GF and hawks have been on the up for 2 years...

we, have been on the down..its just annoying to be told every week your top 4 top 4 top 2, bullshit, for once i'd like to not be rated, and just let em play it out. by picking us for top 4, media just showed they don't know squat... were a top 8 team, where, who knows.

Yeah too right. I'm sick of the Saints being rated so highly only to then be told repeatedly that we're overrated, often by the same people. For a team that came 9th last year our start has been good, but because so many people think we should be top 4 we are copping it. Why doesn't someone go out and write article after article about how good the Dogs or Hawks or Adelaide are so they can rip into them later if they fail to achieve the heights they were 'supposed to'

It's their job. They are paid to have an opinion.

That said, they will frequently check out BigFooty and other fora in order to find out what their opinion is going to be :)

I believe Lenny Hayes, Leigh Montagna, Nick Dal Santo, Sam Fisher, Luke Ball, Max Hudghton, Brendon Goddard, Steven King, Nick Riewoldt, Shane Birss, Robert Harvey, and Justin Koschitzke are all pulling their weight and after the Richmond game you have a case to include Stephen Milne in that list. But that is only 13 players. I'll add David Armitage and call him exempt - he's trying his guts out and you have to admire just how selfless he has been.

OK 14 players.

Who needs to pull their socks up?

Charlie Gardiner is on the verge of being a good player, he needs to take it to the next step or he will be overtaken by kids like Jarryd Allen coming through.
Jason Gram has been inconsistent and has serious question marks on his kicking, we have seen him play devastating football, but we're carrying him ATM.
Raphael Clarke is another on the verge of being a good player, he's got his physique right, has a nice height and reach and has a surprising turn of speed. His real weakness is errors - often in critical positions on the field.
Xavier Clarke is on the verge of becoming an elite midfielder. He's quick, he has a lovely kick, if only his body could hold out - his fitness is always a question mark and his strength especially in his tackling is a weakness in his game.
Adam Schneider is another who could be a match breaker - quick with a beautiful kick, but he hasn't quite fired yet.
Steven Baker has been a B&F at our club, he has a quick mind, he adds a level of toughness that we do lack since the loss of Hamill.
Michael Gardiner is still a while away from producing his best - yet we need it NOW
Sean Dempster has done some good things but makes a few basic errors too - he has been given a lifeline by this recruitment by the Saints he wont get another chance at this and really needs to show us what he's got before Luke Miles takes his spot.

There are others too that are either injured or have been omitted that don't even live up to the level of the guys I mentioned.

This is where the improvement will come from. From the second tier of players stepping up - and our youth coming through.

It'll happen if the Hawks don't get into a GF or two within the next 3 years.

I think that the thing that hurts the Saints is that they played so well for a stretch in that one season and showed what they could do.

We're easy targets, simple as that.

I just wish we could go into a game, just one game free of all this pressure of achieving something when us the fans and the players aren't even expecting.

Top4 and Geelongs main threat were some of the shit thrown around by the media, yet we knew it, the players knew it, we are nowhere near their level. Yet game after game, if we don;t meet the media's expectancy we are flogged from pillar to post. It must really bring the team moral down.

I definately think that's one of the reasons aswell but we are a totally different team from that time.

Grant Thomas is no longer coaching us, Luke Penny isn't there to sure up the defence, Aaron Hammil no longer there to ruff a opposition players up. Matt Maguire, sad to see such a young gun succumb to injury like he has, no longer the player he once was.

Have lost some vital members of the team but are still compared to the team of 2004.
We are a completely different team/club and the media need to let go that snapshot of the saints, they are long gone.

Who cares if they talk us down. They're probably right but who cares. :D Being talked up can only be a disadvantage. Better to be the underdog.
We're 4-3; same as this time last year. We then lost 4 consecutive games which killed our season. Let's hope we don't have a bad run.

Maguire and Aussie Jones, the two most important losses in my opinion. We have nobody else who does this role well, and our foot skills are not great. Need to start attacking again.

According to most of these 'experts' throughout the entire season 2007, North Melbourne should have challenged Richmond and Carlton for the wooden spoon.

North have been underestimated the whole year and finally made it into the Top 4 and a preliminary final.

The same experts suggested after Rd 6 that Geelongs window was closed and they should start again with a new coach.

If we are the victim of the media this year - who cares, all I care about is the performance (and result) on the field.

Media 'experts' are paid to say something and very dramatic opinions will trigger strong reactions (e.g. the opening posts of this thread) and hence will increase ratings - the only thing that the media really care about (e.g. Channel 9 who have admitted that they are full of joy about last weeks ratings for the Footy Show).

Are you kidding? Not getting into the gf over the next 2-3 years would be considered a massive failure.

thats because most people dont have a clue about football...

look at the trend of St Kilda in the last couple of years etc.. esp. last year. we're a slow starting team that pulled off the preseason flag.. not every team needs to start the year in form and full of fitness.. the dogs will lose as soon as teams start building their fitness as the year goes on..

the main aim for our mob is to win the scrappy games when we dont have form, no get injured and be in the hunt for the 2nd half of the year. then let our fitness base and form lift us into a good finals position...

ffs.. I want to win every week but it takes a special team to do a geelong or bombers etc.. some teams will rise and some will come back to earth... west coast anyone?...

am I pre-empting anything here too soon...? :)

Also look at the hornets nest that Mike Sheahan stirred up with the Butterss interview in the HS. Caused Malcolm Blight to smear our club on NATIONAL TELEVISION.

The club should sue him and channel ten.

I am losing what little respect I had for the show and in particular the panel.

I think it is time for a personnel revue - get some genuine football intellectuals - not these bozos.

I wouldn't worry about it Kildonan... it's in the past.. we've got a new coach and board... I think people realise that... is there anyone left from that time?..

lol i loved it how everyone wrote us off from about round 6 onwards.

Quite funny to see how quickly the journo's jump on and off the saints wagon.
