Mike has a boner for Hill, like the rest of us. :thumbsu:

Rog is finally getting the recognition he deserves. :thumbsu::thumbsu:

And I really liked the shirt Mr Hird was wearing tonight. :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

Can someone explain to me why "Haselby should have been/be a better player than he is if he can win 4 Glendinning Medals"

He has been a pretty fair player over the years i would have said... another piece of Sheahan magic..

It's pretty obvious that Sheahan doesn't know enough about Freo to understand how Hase's career has been restricted by injuries.

I like the way he keeps saying 'we don't see much of Freo over here'. You're paid to be a professional football analyst aren't you Mike? How about you try, I don't know, maybe watching a few of our replays on Fox?

Crazy idea I know, that someone who is paid to talk about football would actually make an effort to watch all the teams play.

A few things:

1. Thanks F95 - you have officially reached legend status on this board IMO. :thumbsu:

2. Great to hear Rog getting the recognition he deserves. :thumbsu:

3. FMD - Stephen Hill is a freaking wonder. Daniel who? ;)

4. I would also like to know why / how Hasleby "should have been a better player" considering that for much of his career he has been plagued by back, groin, abdominal issues / OP... and missed a year off with a reco. When he's up and running and injury free he is ****ing elite - always has been... but it's hardly his fault that he's struggled with various injuries over his career...

Do you remember 2007 and early 2006, not to mention 2005? If you have regular off games then people don't rate you. To be a very good player you need to play consistent good football over a season.

Yes the mysterious "back condition" that he managed to play with for years. If your injury is serious you don't play nearly a whole season and have some good games thrown in there. What for half the games did he just manage to fix his injury temporarily to allow him to play well ?

Come on Memories - you know enough about this stuff to know that he was playing with limited movement a lot of the time. The severity of back injuries / conditions / complaints can fluctuate. Sometimes you have reasonably good flexibility and movement and be relatively pain-free, other times you can't even reach down to out your shoes on without pain and stiffness...

I'm no medico - but there was certainly a long period of time when he was having issues of some sort related to injury. Whether or not this coincided with a "form slump" is quite possible, I guess.

Memories, read below.
Didn't the club screw up his hernia surgery? We've had a long and woeful record with how we've managed our player recoveries.
Nah, the hernia surgery seemed to do the trick.

It was the spinal fusion at 18, or similar, that was a masterstroke.

Explain his 2003/2004 seasons then?

I still fail to see how this wouldn't be affecting him now and allow him to play some blinders then have nothing games. He has gone from 25+ disposals to <13 disposals a lot of times. The way I see it, we blame injuries when he plays poorly and he is a brave soldier when he plays great with it. Basically nothing is his fault.

Up until the end of 2007 he hadn't even addressed his weight issue which if he did have an injury of the back/groin/etc would have helped it considerably. There are many many areas in my opinion which he has failed to address over a long period of time, and these same areas flow on to things like "preparation for a game".

He is a very good natural footballer it is just the other side to him which has let him down from being a great footballer. His attitude seems to be improving though, so who knows.

There are plenty of players who've been talented and we've screwed up medically. Who knows what Hase has been playing with.

Clem Michael was best example. I know we're shit now, but **** we were an incompetent club back then.

Stephen Koops board.

Who would have thought you could test positive to something while you were being operated on in hospital?

Good to see we were using anaesthetists who weren't on the gear...

I pose the question, how would they rate Hase if he had 4 Anzac Medals ?, yes those things they give to Collingwood and Essendon. The answer is they would say he is a "legend" in the big games !!!.

Hird is a breath of fresh air. Mike needs to learn how to watch games on his tv or get his butt on a plane to Adelaide or Perth, as he should study the subject before lecturing on it !!!!.

Exhibit A: Chris Judd, 2007 AFL Premiership Season

We've done alot better in the last 5 years when we started getting some stablity off the field. Mcpharlin case in point.

Haselby is a very similar player to Sam Mitchell, and has never gotten half the kudos Mitchell has gotten.
