What kind of man (woman) drinks Bourbon?

A man who hasn't discovered Scotch, that's who.

It absolutely staggers me that people will go to the pub and pay good money for Bourbon. It's rubbish.

Bourbon, be it Wild Turkey, Jim Beam or whatever, is poor man's Scotch. It's too sweet, rough, and nasty - and people pay a fortune for it???

People who drink that glorified cat's urine always seem to want to pick fights. I'm not surprised - they've been ripped off every time they drink the stuff! I'd want to hit someone too!

Scotch on the other hand is smooth and classy.

So Bourbon drinkers, It's time to graduate.

It's time to graduate to Scotch!

* If you are under 18, do yourself a favour and don't take up drinking. With the amount I would have saved over the past 10 years if I didn't drink, I could have bought a brand new Ford Falcon XR8.

I agree Bourbon is so sweet & even worse when you add coke to it. Disgusting stuff, give me Scotch anyday. :D

Better not let your parents see this topic, or maybe you should suggest they start drinking Scotch instead.
Bourbon does seem the preferred spirit of west aussies though.

No vis, if you want to take it that way OK, until I moved over here I knew hardly anyone that drank Bourbon, but practically everyone I have met over here prefers it.

Mmmmm... bourbon... nectar of the God's.

Scotch - rough as old boots lolly water. Give me a shot of Maker's Mark over a Johnny Walker's any day.

Bourbon and scotch are different drinks for different times & occasions.
If I'm by myself, and after a Port loss, I'm feeling very dirty and nasty, neat bourbon is the perfect drink
If I'm with friends, or chatting I love to have scotch on the rocks
When I'm introspective a good port is the perfect drink
When I'm loud and partying just gotta have COLD beer
out for a meal just gotta have a dry white or red depending on the meals ordered
and of course, if I'm in a competitive, combative mood, I'll drink anything I can find

Bourbon is a way of life!!

The thing is i love the taste of Bourbon but i have bad hangovers with it whereas i like Scotch (not as nice as bourbon) but i hardly have hangovers. Frustrating but worth it for the Bourbon :)

How anyone can drink their Bourbon OR Scotch with Coca-Cola mixed in is completely beyond me.

I mean - christ why would you want to completely ruin the taste of good whiskey with that caffeinated sugar water known as Coke ? - yuk, no taste, no class, no idea.

I like Scotch much more than Bourbon. Bourbon is way too sweet and bad Bourbon has a nasty 'gritty' feeling to it.

The best whiskey (popular prices here ok ?) is Jameson Irish Whiskey

smooth smooth smooth

drink it straight-up with a single ice cube, let the ice melt into the whiskey a little bit before downing it in one gulp. Follow up with a beer chaser.

Very traditional and old-fashioned way of drinking, but hey - it works.

cheers

For the second time today I fully agree with TT, which is concerning!

I drink any port in a storm, but Bourbon is like drinking thumb-tacks with an after taste like play-doh! You'd have to be out of your mind to pick Bourbon over Scotch, even if were talking base spirits.

And TT is correct in his money/drink analogy. I'd plough through $100 per week on drink and drink related excursions. I did a quick present value calculation and if you invested $100 per week into an account returning a conservative 6% per annum for ten years, you would have about $72,000. Less tax on interest you would have about $65,000 to play with. That's serious muscle car territory!!!

My cunning scheme is working.

By the end of the week you will be an ultra-conservative Richmond supporter driving a Ford V8.

BTW: You're replies have been following mine quite regularly. Am I being tagged?

Now we have points of difference.

Firstly I'm already pretty conservative, but so far as straying from God's team goes...

And to ever get me near a Ford V8, the name Shelby better be involved! A 1967 Mustang GT 500 would be nice. Anything less...forget it!

I ain't tagging though. I'm just a tight checking midfielder!

Well, now you're talking Irish Whiskey - a REAL man's drink.

How anyone could pick Scotch Whiskey over a proper Bourbon (not this Tennessee whiskey Jack Daniels crap) is beyond me.

Ouzo always reminds me of Greek sailors poncing around the place. Girly, girly, GIRLY drink.

Bluey .... I'm with you !!!

Makers, Turkey or good 'ole James B. Beam for me !!!!

A mate went to the states a few years back, and brought me back a 2 litre bottle of this stuff(?) called "Eagles Eye" Whisky. It cost a grand total of $7 Australian, and tasted like shit. I'm sure you coulda run your car on it !!! Anyway, after we drank it ......
