We finished the minor round in 3rd in 2002. It was to then, the best minor round we'd ever had.

Roo deserved every honour that came his way - in fact, he deserved more. Did Sheehan ask him about the 1997 Brownlow? I bet he didn't.

Bruce McAvaney should have been doing this interview.

Geez some of you lot are precious lol.

Did it occur to you that Mike might have been trying to give Roo the chance to refute the suggestion in an open forum?

It didnt even need to be raised, that's the point. You seem to be quite precious yourself, defending a self confessed VFL narcissist of a journo.

Just correcting some wrongs in Alex's post.

And no Roo interview is complete without discussing the disappointment of 1997.

I think the point is, Roo's honour roll is longer than Dirk Diggler, but it should be even longer. So singling out one All Australian jumper out of eight is a bit rich if you're not going to address the other awards he should/might have won.

Agreed, and what i'm saying is that Mike may just have been trying to give Ricciuto a chance to shoot down any remaining doubters, rather than trying to denigrate the record of a champion of the game as some are trying to suggest.

I'm not a big Crows fan, but I was a big Roo fan and I was spewing he didn't get the Premiership/Brownlow double in 1997 because he deserved it.

He also won me a fair bit of coin in 2003 :D

Did you understand the purpose of the question?

Mark Ricciuto finished outside the Crows top 10 in the 2002 best and fairest, we also only just made the finals so it's not like we had a mass of good or outstanding players.

I think that questions backs up (i think it was Carl) Carls pose that some AA players are walk up starts.

He wanted him to justify how he made AA with the season he and Adelaide had?

I think it was a very fair question to be asked.

Of course I understand.

It was the first question and set the tone for the interivew. He implied Roo got it only because of Neil Kerley. That's offensive to the whole selection panel.

Would he have suggested that Hird or Judd got there all australian jumpers because of Victorian panel members?

Some of his later questions on his dead mates was also not necessary.

I never said he didn't deserve it, I simply said the question was fair and still believe it was. The question was used in context to the interview.

Mark Ricciuto was a champion player at our club and it was an individual award. He didn't finish inside the top 10 of the B&F that year (somewhere you would expect a AA player to be in that year mind you) and still received AA honors. I think that was a fair assessment and answer.

1997 Brownlow as in leading after 16 rounds and then falling away because of his groin injury? he didn't ask him directly but he did asked him about the injury and his groins and the troubles he had towards the end of the 1997 season and how he was feeling regarding missing the premiership.

Implied my arse. It was a a jovial moment to start the interview. Do you honestly think he doesn't respect Mark Riccuto standing in the game?

That's basically what you are implying.

No, but there's always been a feeling that Mike and his friends haven't rated Roo in the same category as Voss, Buckley and Hird, which of course, is ignorance of the highest order.

But that feeling had been around since the 1963 state victory, if not before hand.

That day, their dominance or perceived level of invincibility ended and the perception from this side of the border started that they were put to get us.

I watched the interview and took every question on face value. No hidden agenda, no bias, no state rivalry or innuendo regarding other players.

The interview was very fair to Mark, and the line of questions were not that different to any other open mike he does. He was very respectful and allowed his place in football history to remain in tact. In fact, he even said as much by saying what a wonderful night it was last year at the HOF dinner when Hird, Voss, Buckley and Ricciuto went in together as in it was 'just'
