Pretty much agree with that's been said. It was good but he focused too much on the black and the incident. I would have liked him to ask if there are any white players that they have strong bonds with now as they do with the aboriginal players.

Both guests well spoken though. Gee Nicky's had a rough trot with family illness losing both his parents and his brother at young ages. Hopefully he has more luck.

Who's on next week?

Nicky Winmar effectively had his career ended in 1998/1999 when he got taken apart by Daniel Harford at Waverley. Break out game for Harford and Nicky was never the same player.

I love Open Mike. I think Mike Sheehan does a fantastic job. I think the people in here who constantly bag Mike Sheehan are complete knobs.

However, I'll admit that the Winmar/McAdam episode was a bit cringeworthy. I'll still give Mike the benefit of the doubt as I'm sure it wasn't HIS decision to schedule those two during indigenous round... but he just kept... coming... back... to the fact they're aboriginal... over... and over... and over...

It got a bit much after a while.

Still an interesting episode as always.

Gilbert and Nicky handled Mike's persistent want to circle back to the issue very well but it's clear they deserved a better run on the show than what they ended up getting. Shame that.

Would of been better with just Winmar on it, seems he had a few more stories to tell as well.
Yeah I agree. I thought Gilbert was the better spoken of the two though. It's a shame there wasn't more on their footy though.

Couldn't have said it any better. It was the least enjoyable episode i've seen.

I'd love to see Mike interview Mark 'Jacko' Jackson or Warwick Capper. Both would dish out plenty of 'out-there' stories and would be high on personality. Someone like a Leon Baker or Allen Jakovich would be very interesting as well. Make it happen, Mike!!!

Both of those blokes were on the "Jesaulenko You Beauty" segment on "Harf Time" on SEN recently.

I've never heard anything like the Jackson interview. To say he's a bit different would be a gross understatement. Completely defied traditional interview convention and basically ranted, umprompted, for the virtually the whole time. I doubt that Mike could pull him into line, but it would be fascinating viewing!

Seconded, it was rivetting!

Yeah I agree. I thought Gilbert was the better spoken of the two though. It's a shame there wasn't more on their footy though.
I was suprised they actually acknowledged his '89 Magarey (I'd forgotten).
Think Gilbert mentioned playing about 100 games for Centrals before moving over (a similar path to Bradley, Motley and Kernahan and Platten).

Yeah, anyone can draw that conclusion, but I was hoping for something more specific that that.

I read a story in one of Sheedy's books where he claimed to have punched a "big-headed" teammate in the rooms after a game. A little kid's autograph book was passed around for everyone to sign. When Sheedy saw the other guy had scrawled "F**k off" as a joke instead of signing their name, he went apeshit. For some reason I thought it may have been Billy Barrot, but maybe it was Royce Hart.

I have read the book - the player was Barrot

Sheedy was less than complimentary in the books about both guys while regarding them as great footballers

He'll be an interview subject, not a performer. That's the beauty of this show.

He is supposed to be, but will he?
I've seen "in depth" interviews with him before, dont remember who interviewed him now and his stories are all the same. I don't think i'll watch TBH.

what book is this?

I don't recall which book because I read it some years ago and he has put out several books

Chewy may recall the title

Elliott Cartledge wrote a book called "The Hafey Years" which is a good read even for non-Tigers and the subject may have been touched on there also
