The other thing to consider is that Mike has no background on the WAFL etc
That's obvious. But as he is a journalist, I'm sure he capable of properly researching a story and covering relevant topics. Its something he fails to do.

It's called research mate. It's what Journos are supposed to do before interviewing someone.

Or he could be sneaky and just sit there and ask "Tell me what the WAFL was like when you started?". Would get a great response.

Open Mike works more as a conversation than an interview, and thus works best when Mike is on familiar ground (which happens to be the VFL, which he has been deeply involved in covering for many decades). That is the basic premise of the show.

But doesn't that approach, by nature, put Mike on equal footing with his guests?

Don't know about you but that's the opposite of what I'm after when I'm watching interviews such as those on Open Mike. Mike should be nothing more than a vessel by which his guests get a chance to talk about what we find interesting.

would like to see plugger but would never happened

some I think would be good/interesting

tony modra - 93 season, missing 97 and 98, going to freo,cornes/shaw/blight comparison
matthew primus - going through Fitzroy demise as a young player/missing 04 flag/taking over Williams and his time as coach
terry Wallace - would need an hour. playing days/bulldogs start to finish/Richmond times
matty knights - Richmond days, coach after coach after coach, times at Essendon
either of the maddens
dale weightman - surely would have some classic S.O.O stories
ben graham - times at geelong/gary senior gary junior/making the switch to nfl

surprised gerard healy hasn't been on yet or brad Johnson

has everitt been on? seemed to always be at the wrong club at the wrong time

I think Modra rarely did media interviews, but I've always been curious to know what his response of being dropped by Blight for a GF in 98' as well as his move to Freo.

A few others that I think would be interesting:
Justin Charles
Anthony Stevens
Kouta
Woosha
Choco

I think Kozi and Mooney have been the best Open Mike episodes this season.

Just saw the preview for the Allan Stoneham interview - as raw as it gets.

On face value, the name means nothing to me. Hopefully will learn more after watching,

Sheehan isn't exactly bringing in the "big guns" this year in terms of people/personalities you'd really want to hear more about, is he?

Geez that was heavy.

On face value, the name means nothing to me. Hopefully will learn more after watching,

Sheehan isn't exactly bringing in the "big guns" this year in terms of people/personalities you'd really want to hear more about, is he?

So you'd rather listen to a 'big gun' rehash already widely known anecdotes than hear about a pretty remarkable story from a fairly low profile guy like Stoneham? Your loss.

No, I'd rather get a known "big personality" that still has some mystery to them, like an Allen Jakovich or Robbie Muir, to explain the methods to their madness, and where it all went wrong, in their own words.

I think he has already done most of the big names.

The biggest fish that are yet to be landed are of course Ablett Snr and Plugger.
