i think some people need to chill. Relax and appreciate what the club did for us on Saturday.
Agreed. Would have given my leftie to be there even for a practice match.

Last grand final I saw the Tigers play live was 1982. Last grand final victory live was 1980.

It must be nice to be able to wander down and watch it from the fence eating a snag.

Given a very small sample, I think Sonsie os more likely to make it than RCD and Ross. I'm hoping all play but Sonsie seems to have more of an all rounded game with quality disposal and poise the other two don't have. A midfield with Prestia, Martin, Bolton, Graham and Sonsie (in the near future) would have the grunt, speed, footskills and X-Factor to trouble most opposition.

He'll end up getting the oppos third tall defender which is almost certainly going to be a mismatch. The idea being that with a marking forward line of Lynch, Reiwoldt and Balta to match up on, somebody's going to get off the chain most times. With Noah's kicking he can play high and still be bombing at goal from 60m out and also moving up to the wing to provide that tall target we've been missing so badly with kicks exiting defence.

Given time it's likely to be a tough matchup for most teams. Not sure why so many on this board can't see it. He started out as a forward, was earmarked as a forward and only filled in when Rance retired early.

He has mostly excelled in the role because he's got so much untapped talent. Time to set him loose as a weapon. Take a look at the bloke!

He will be a monster for the league's third tall defenders, (most of whom are undersized) and give them plenty of sleepless nights.
Let’s hope if Balta gets it 50 out he has a ping
My concern is they will try and play it in other sides don’t mind a shot from 50 we seem to avoid it even though we have players capable of it

I know its not a popular option for most on here but I want Balta to continue to play down back. I'd like to see Gibcus play a few games at VFL level before we throw him straight to the wolves. I think he needs to continue to develop his craft and confidence as a key back against weaker opposition but still full sized men.

I'd love to see a Round One backline of -
Ralphsmith, Tarrant, Broad
Vlaustin, Balta, Short

By midyear though, if they earn their place, Gibcus and Brown would make for handy inclusion into the D50. We really are stacked for depth in the backline. Wish we had that same problem in other areas of the ground too.....

No grimes?

Well that’s all over.

Black team wins 19 goals to 5 goals in three quarter of footy. Probably would have ended up being 150 points if it were 4 quarters.

Black team best: Prestia, Cotchin, Baker, Caddy, Broad, Nankervis, Bolton
The black team was awesome to watch to be honest. And I’m salivating thinking about D.Martin with those guys.

Yellow team got a bath to be honest.

Yellows best: vlastuin, Gibcus, Grimes and Sonsie, RCD

Couple of vfl players looked good but I’m not that concerned about them. Deambrosio will get drafted I would say.

Short and Tarrant for the yellow team really disappointing to be honest. They were non existent.

With that sort of form Caddy will be back in our best 22. McIntosh was unsighted and Cads will look to take his spot I’d say.

Bigoa Nyoun and Josh Gibcus both look 100% ready to take a spot down back. Out of these two i would be saying Gibcus JUST.

Broad was just a stand out down back for the black team. He has reminded me today that the start of last year he was probably leading our best and fairest.

The form of Prestia and Cotch has me splashing everywhere. They were just mercurial in that midfield. That performance even though an intra club, has sent out a message to the rest of the competition that this team is going to be a serious contender and the 3 time premiers are still at the top of this comp.

RCD played well in patches. Looked nice early but struggled as the game went on. Ross was a disappointment. Even kicked the ball the wrong way out of a centre stoppage at one stage.
Sonsie looked like a player who will be going straight past them both as this year progresses. He’s got something about him this kid.

Ralphsmith looked great along side Mansell. And honestly they both looked like the two hard running back half players that would play round 1 over short and Rioli. Rioli very disappointing. I’m super concerned about the kid. He’s out of ideas and now just looks to be playing out of position.

Stack was very quiet. Nothing really to talk about from sydney today unfortunately.

Soldo vs Nank was an absolute battle. And I wouldn’t have expected anything else from these two. I think Nank might have just won the battle in the end (as he always seems to find a way doing) but both played great tough footy.

Grimes was serviceable. Nothing special from him today. Under the pump to be honest and not much he could do.

Liam Baker is a star in the making. He and Bolton are going to give every team in the AFL absolute nightmares. They are a serious combination of small forwards and I can not wait to see these two light up the G in front of 90k tiger supporters.

Balta is just one of the most curious footballers I’ve ever seen to be honest.
He is 100% not a forward.
Im sorry guys but I have to say it.
He’s a backman that can play ruck at times.
But the problem right now is that we’re stacked down back. And I don’t see him combining with Lynch and Jack in the same forward line.
So honestly I have my concerns for Noah. I don’t want to be an alarmist. But I fear if Tarrant starts to find his feet down back and the Balta forward experiment starts to look no good, Noah could potentially find himself out of the 22. I truely hope not, but right now I can tell you Dimma and the coaching staff would be scratching their heads as to where Balta can play!!

Overall the black team did exactly what they would have been expected to do… their ball use and creativity was a reminder to the comp that the tigers are still a contender. Add Martin, Lynch, Lambert, Graham to that team and holyyyy Moses….. look the F out AFL.
The tigers are back.

why does daniel rioli get a free pass with everyone on here ? has done nothing since 2017 and stinks it up off half back (easiest position to play) in an intra club and nobody says sh*t

his disposal and reading of the play are putrid
Shut the **** up.

I'm definitely not questioning the logic of playing three tall forwards - there's quite a bit of historical precedent for it working. I'm just not sure that Noah is best suited to be one of the components.

But as Not Important put it, now's the time to trial it I spose.
But he lined up deep on Tarrant. Every forward struggles to get a kick on Tarrant, especially when you are playing your first practice match as a proper forward. Put him up the ground where he can run and use his assets and backs will have a hell of a time trying to keep up with him.

Ideally really don't want to see him lining up any where near Lynch and Jack, but 70m in front of them, like Naughton plays a lot of the time.

Agree on Ross. He accumulated well. The problem is he is one of those incredibly poor decision makers. The indiscriminate forward handball, that is our game plan, but whenever he does it, it seems to go directly to an oppo player. Twice in the intra he brought the ball inboard, again game plan, but poor time to do it, turnover, goal the other way.

Tucky annoyed me for years with his decision making, and he finally became a very serviceable player.

Worryingly though for me, you can build strength and fitness, improve skills (to a degree - some never do though), but lack of footy smarts, with the speed of the game, can be a difficult one for a mid. Not sure he has a different possie either.
It is the first hit out for the year. I would imagine most players turned the odd one over at times. In his first few games his handballing was his strength, so it is there, just might take a bit of time to get his confidence up to where it was before. Tuck was always an average handballer but a great force around the pack. Ross will play next week as he had 27 disposals, see if he improves with a game under his belt.

Would rather Stack on the half back line than Short.
Agree, think Stack is wasted as a forward. He is so much better when he sees the game in front of him. A real weapon with ball in hand off the back half or even through the midfield, his ultimate destination you'd hope.

Just watched it.
2 things stood out.
Dimma please have Baker as part of the midfield group.
RCD despite spending time with Lambo has not improved his tank.
Surely baker gets runs in the midfield , his ball use and ability to get the ball is wasted playing deep forward.

What did Tarrant look like , haven’t heard

He’s not best 22 imo. Dusty and Dion back, Cotch fit, and Baker rotating F/mid. Throw in Shedda and Shai and perhaps Stacky.

It’s a long season though and not all those guys are going to play anywhere near a full season so he’ll have a role to play just won’t be anywhere near as damaging.

I am hoping Dow can take the next step, showed plenty of good signs early, but has had some injury and opportunity issues.

Its a no brainer really. He knows how to get the ball.

Well horses for courses. Dusty, Prestia and Cotch are obviously cemented, but they don't always play there the entire game and besides Prestia they can play other positions, which leads to rotations with Edwards, Bolton and maybe Stacky. But those later 3 are small players and need some muscle to be in there with them. I think Cotchin should join those rotations because it is so physically hard bashing in for an entire season, needs to be managed a bit and I think would make a great forward as well.

We saw Baker run through the midfield last season but because he is more inside mid than outside, he was worn down an apart from his brilliant first game, he didn't last in there. So add him to the rotations, but he can literally play anywhere so he could be used as a bit of a mr.fixit.
Dow is exciting, but again a smallish body that you would not pit up against the big tough mids that every side has.

So maybe Ross is not best 18, but given Lambert and Graham missing, there is a spot for him. He has size and he finds the ball. A lot of people criticising him on here, but he was still the top possession getter on the ground playing in a side that lost by 14 goals. It is much easier to use the ball well when you are the team running over the opposition rather than the other way round. Plus he is tough and tacklers well generally. We can no longer let Dusty and Cotchin smash their bodies all season, and only Ross and RCD have that ability at the moment to do that.

As I said, he should play against Geelong and we will know more then.
