He's on the market for next year it seems. I really hope we can get him over. Does he have a kid? We need new assistant coaches.

We should ship Camporeale & Bickley & Clarke off. Does anybody know why these three don't move to another club to gain more experience?
In my opinion no other club would want them. None bar Bickley strikes me as leaders.

Will be in line for the next Melbourne coaching job after Roo's. Would hard to see him pass up the opportunity to become a senior coach in 2-3 years over the chance to become an assistant coach for how ever many years and have to wait for a senior gig to open up. Better for him to sit in the box with Roo's for 2 years and learn his craft and then take the reigns.

We do have the Geelong connection - would Ling make it too much Geelong?

I dont know the answer to that.

In the words of tex, Sando's favourite line is "this is how Geelong do it, and this is how we will be doing it."

Not sure Sando wouldn't change the team name to the Cats if it wasn't up to him.

Look - he might be a great football mind. But if we are going to chase coaching talent that has NO experience, we need to all admit we are in a rebuild and prepare to give them time to grow.
I'd prefer we pinch some underutilised, but experienced talent, from other clubs.

Yeah, like Alan Rich... oh. What about Scott Bur... oh. We've actually chased quite a few recently, and failed with the lot of them.

Kim Dillon was hounding lingy on AA on Friday arvo about next year and that he'll be coaching somewhere. Ling said within a couple of weeks he would have spoken to everyone he needs to then make a decision. He also said moving interstate is a big family decision ie not gonna happen. He'll be an assistant in Melbourne somewhere.

I'd take Ling over any of our assistants. Every day of the week. Just because he hasn't had any coaching experience doesn't make him a fail. This guy strikes me as a very good leader and someone that could relate to our players & fit into our group very easily.

So my first suggestion is to address reasons why we fail before we go down the untried path. Just my view though. We got Bailey at a good time for instance.

I'd prefer to chase Voss than Ling at this point as an example.

He may very well be better than what we have. But is he better than what is available?

Campo had 4 years previous coaching at Essendon. Does he need to move to another club?

I'd be happy to move on Clarke for another option, but hey our ruckman has been close to AA quality for 2/3 previous seasons.

Bicks just need to move out of the forward lines.

Does anybody think Tom Harley might want to come over to the Crows? It seems everytime he boundary rides our games he's always in the crows camp being chummy with sando..

Last thing we need is one of Sando's chums over here to be honest. We need significant freshness.

Two points..
  • Firstly, his name is Paul Roos. There is no random apostrophe in the middle of his surname, just because it has an 's' at the end. Random apostrophe usage is one of the most annoying grammatical errors and this is one of the worst abuses seen in a long time.
  • Secondly, Melbourne are not going to appoint him as senior coach if he doesn't have experience as an assistant coach first. He may very well end up replacing Paul Roos, but not if he doesn't get a job as an assistant somewhere first.

I'd love to see them hire Tredrea as a forward line coach.

He's a massive rooster but would be a good get (infinitely better than the status quo). I wonder if he would be a bit of a careerist yes man though, not sure why, nothing specific, just a hunch I've gained observing him in the media.

Re Carey, I love listening to him commentate, one of the best going around. Doesn't commentate the flow so much, but when he says something it is spot on and its something everyone else has missed and suddenly all agree with. No BS operator as well.

I would prefer us to look outside of the AFL boys club. For example someone like Brendon Bolton, who didnt have a huge playing career, but coached for 8 years before becoming an Hawthorn assistant.

Just because you played at a high level does not necessarily mean that you will be a good coach. If Ling was serious about coaching, he would start at a lower level.

I think Brett Ratten is one we should be chasing to fill Dean Baileys position. He was obviously good enough to be named coach of Carlton and was only sacked because they were apparently under performing (which we now know they weren't). He has since been at a very successful Hawthorn and he might want out given that he was recently overlooked for the caretaker coach position. He has a lot of experience and would bring some fresh ideas.

Thank's for that:thumbsu:

How about Daniel Giansaracusa? Everytime I've seen him come on as the sub in games the Dog's fwd line seems to function better instantly through his guidance. Also has been coaching for a few years and seems like the ultimate professional.

It would depend on the other changes we make, but I really feel that we need to get some one in who has experienced success as a coach as our number one priority. First time senior coach, several other assistants who have only coached at the Crows, adding Ling to that mix without other larger changes doesn't really fill me with confidence.
