My idea is similar to the NFL Pro Bowl...

In the US one week after the super bowl is played, the pro bowl happens. This includes the players picked by the public on a vote system to represent the west vs the east.

I dont see why the afl can not adopt the same situation.

Why not play an annual hall of fame game one week after the grand final?

it could be vics vs dream team... or an actual SOO competition much like the 16's and 18's carnival.

I also think that if the teams were picked by the public through online or mailing voting this would increase the interest in the public eye.

Playing the game at the end of season may cut into players off season time, but if a player is prepared to risk being injured for the rest of the season to compete in a mid year game, then surely they are prepared to be lay off the booze for one day during pre season.

You could tie is all in with like the brownlow, and then pick the all australian team from it too and then play international rules.

So you have like a full representative thing annually? what does everyone think?

I think it could work, it would be the culmination of every year. Moving the brownlow is also a massive advantage as for it not being in gf week the winner will actually be there.

I wouldnt mind that. I would love to see an annual Hall of fame game, would attract big crowds every year. Makes you wonder why the AFL dont do it.

Although there would be alot of biased amond supporters for who will be picked (you would get about 10 collingwood players surely) perhaps voting could come down to Club members and AFL members.

or the Hall of fame game is the friday night curtain raiser to the grand final

part of the finals week build up

of course if you are in the team to play in the grand final you dont get to play!! but hey who cares, u are in a grand final!!!

Would be a much better selection process if members were not allowed to vote for players from their own club, then you'd really get the best of the best as voted by the unbias public.

It seems that the state vs state matches are a thing of the past, so as an alternative they could set it up a bit like the NBA. You involve all the states by having an East vs West match i.e. Qld, NSW, Vic and Tas vs WA, SA and NT. It would take a year or two to build up a rivalry but that would come. At least you've got the same match-up each year rather than Dream Teams, Allies, individual states playing. There's nothing better than seeing the best players all playing at one time (other than seeing Carlton win a flag)!

The week after the GF is good idea, worth a try at least.

yeah, nah. that wouldn't cut it for me. it has to be state v state. if it isn't, then I'll just go for the team with the most Carlton players.

for it to work, you have to have a multi year view. 3 divisions, A, B, C.

-if you win in A, you are the champs and remain in A
-if you win in B, you get to play in A next year.
-if you lose in A, you go down to B.
-if you lose in B you go down to C
-if you lose in C you sit out the following year

To start it out, VIC, WA and SA would need to toss a coin to see who starts in A. QLD and NSW start in C and TAS + the loser of the coin toss start in B. The winner of A is declared champion each year. NT sits out the first year and then comes into div C to replace the loser of C

-The home ground advantage goes to the reigning champs for div A.
-The home ground advantage for B goes to the team coming down from A.
-The home ground advantage for C goes to the team coming down from B.

fixed.

I have been thinking about this alot. When I was a kid I always wondered how it would be like playing against the country boys. And, when i finally had the chance to play against them, they hammered us. I reckon the only way its going to work is, if you set a radius of lets say 80km from the CBD to represent the Metro side, and the rest would represent the country side, for all capitals.

Now that would be a cracker jack of a game!

ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS IDEA!!

I'll run this past yers. We bring Brisbane and Sydney back to Melbourne and give them their real names back. We rebadge the AFL the VFL as it should be. The interstate teams can play a round robin series of endlessly meaningless matches between themselves ad infinitum Then we play 6 games on a Saturday arvo, halve the food and drink prices and bring the Peanut Man back to Princes Park. Any takers?

Tempting - We are talking about 1986 with us to be Premiers in 87 and of course we would have remained a power after recruiting West Australians: Matera and Jakovich.
mmmm Princes Park was a great viewing ground
