Orourke - Hamstring - again!

Out of all the talented youngsters GWS have had this is the guy we had to get.
You actually couldn't script it...the fact he was pick 2 in the national draft just rubs salt into the wounds. It's remarkable he was pick 2.

Stewart has already gone past him, and he was already behind Langford, Shiels, Smith, Hartung, Mitchell & JOM in the midfield pecking order. Add Whitecross, Howe, Henderson & Hardwick to the competition and JOR may struggle to keep his place at the club next year. Looking like a trade bust at this stage.

I'm glad we got rid of Cyril when he had hamstring issues. There is no way you can overcome these, not with our medical team.
Cyril might have shown a little bit more.

O'Rourke was up against it before this setback on the basis that he has never shown himself to be AFL standard. It doesn't look good for him.

Oh yeah, I mean, it's not even round one and so there is no way he can come back from a four week injury....right?
Well not in time for round one, obviously that means career over

Jesus, you would think our midfield is running 10 deep with consistent talent the way people are prepared to write JOR off. I hope Russell can get his hamstrings right like he did with Cyril to give O'rourke every opportunity to develop with game time in the seniors. He was having a great preseason prior to the JLT series from all reports and quite frankly our midfield depth is woeful and we needed to put valuable minutes into his development this season to find out truly where Jonos future lies. Luckily for him its an injury early in the year and hopefully we can see more of him through out the season. I wish Jono the best!

Regardless of how you rate JOR we really need to find out this season which young midfielder will take the next step in their development and who isnt fit for not only a spot in our 22 but becoming a damaging midfielder for years to come, because frankly right now besides our new recruits I have little faith in the rest of our midfielders

I like that our club is not chock a block of people who give up. That's how you win three successful flags I reckon

Not ideal. I had JOR as BOG in the first half last Friday. His run is his issue. Good clean hands, neat skills and reads the loose ball very well. I did notice that his chasing will/ability seemed well below par. He does not have explosive speed, like a Siz or ever a Webster. He just does not seem to run far or quick and this has shaped how he plays footy.

I feel that the hammy injuries might be a factor there. Was quick as a junior. Not lightening but certainly above average. Needs to go on the Rioli program and focus on power and strength.

People writing off his year already??!!!! Hilarious.

This latest setback is a shame but I'll wait and see how this year unfolds first. Way too early to call curtains.
This This and This.

Sometimes I just shake my head at some people FFS give the kid a chance.

I guess that's why I avoid this place like the plague when we lose a game.

Yep, my understanding was he had a very good tank too, even one of his real strengths, but if he has to hold back on training volume because of hamstrings he won't be able to make the most of it.

I do wonder if he was already on the Rioli program, or something similar, since he's had hamstring concerns since his GWS days.

I like Stewart a tonne more, Lovell lots more, and Miles a bit more.;)
Happy to give those guys the opportunity JOR hasn't taken, nor do I think has the physical tools even when 100% healthy to grab. No zip to his game in any dept, doesn't have Kade's toughness, Lovell's sidestep and acceleration, nor Miles vision.
If we hadn't given up what we did, and he was a rookie listed player we'd punted on, no-one would be gnashing their teeth on here desperate to have him make it above others on the squad.

Supporters need to get over trying to wish things into existence.
Lovell had plenty more A grade performances last year at BH than JOR has had in his entire time on the list. Even at BH, JOR looks like a B plusser who doesn't show the need to absolutely smash it.
Connor Glass will make you forget O'Rourke, or maybe it will be Cousins.
Just let the kids who are good enough show it to you, prove it to you, and then ride with them.

Worked for a legend named Sam.

Man, I thought there'd be a little more sympathy shown for him. There is no possible way to show your full potential whilst you're a) not fully fit/injured or b) fit but still have mental concerns about any previous injuries.

I have no doubt that he has the ability or scouts from both his draft year and then when Hawthorn picked him up, would never had made the recommendations they did.

I certainly hope he can take the time, get his body right and give himself another chance to show what he is made of. Unfortunately, however, he may be another player of ability who's body just won't cooperate

Is ON the Rioli program

If you are going to do a hamstring it is much better to do it now rather than later.
He still has every chance to prove himself.
For Hawthorns sake I hope he can come good.

In defense of "the people", at best case 1/3 of the season will be gone before he's even ready to put his hand up for AFL selection. At that stage he'll be battling with guys like Langford, Hartung, Lovell, Burton, Sicily, Henderson and Stewart for the last spot or two on the interchange bench.

Calm down JOR lovers! Nobody has asked he be put to the firing squad?
Newsflash!! Not everybody on an AFL list is good enough! I bet Jack Watts wishes he was a pick 2 so he could float on through like this guy.
He could have 2 bionic hamstrings and it won't matter a bit.
Lets swap him for a box of strapping tape at the end of the season. At least the tape will get a run in the best 22.
