What it is a side deal with a player and West Coast pays majority of wage. This in turn allows Lions to offer Allen and Eagles get pick 2.
We need to gift Brisbane a gift after giving them a gift?

In the end alot of crying in this thread exists merely for the fact its pick 2 and not pick 10. The idea we shouldnt get a first round pick because we finished last isnt really how the system is meant to work

Battle got 1st round comp on 6 year 4.8 mill deal so Eagles should just get the same given thats what Brisbane are offering yeah?

There's something a bit suss about the way they described Oscars injury. I heard them say, "It's an achilles strain, not a tear. Oh, and he's also injured his calf." The wording just sounds sneaky which leads me to think they're not telling the truth, again.

Good it means the Eagles aren't getting pick 2 than.

It’ll be a manufactured AFL band 1. Prepare your CFL posts.

Help me understand your logic here.

Brisbane don't need any more small forwards so Ryan doesn't seem likely. McGovern might not even play again plus he's not going anywhere, so that doesn't seem likely. Brisbane would have to pay these guys or give us a better pick for us to pay them, clogging up a list spot and giving up points.

If anything, I would expect that we would overpay for one of Brisbane's players rather than us giving them another one.

What am I missing with your suggestion?
I’m trying to think of a way WC can give Brisbane some cap for Allen so they can trigger band 1. Needs to be a player that isn’t going to help WC with the rebuild and also has a contract.

Eg. Brisbane get that player but don’t have to pay them or at a lot less.

Other way would be WC trading peanuts for a bad contract Brisbane have. Can’t think of any off the top of my head.

According to Jon Ralph $800k is the minimum dollars for band 1 just how many years apparently 6 years has been circulating around media reports
800k isn't band 1, you have to be over a million dollars a year now for band 1, the cap has gone up.
the whole reason Ben McKay is on over 1m a year.

I don't understand why Brisbane would want another player in this scenario.

Their interests would be being able to afford Allen and getting points for their academy players. Giving them another player just gives them another bill to pay, and if we pay that bill instead, Brisbane forfeits draft capital.

If anything, I would think Brisbane would be more interested in giving up a player and having us (or another team via us) overpay for them, freeing up space in their cap and bringing in draft capital rather than giving it up.

We won't get band 1 if that's the price. I expect the price to go up though. Allen is a better forward than Battle is a defender. Not quite $1m player but you'd be pretty happy paying $850-900k in today's prices.

Price and years will be in the grey area between top end of band two and bare minimum of band 1. Basically band two. But enough grey area and wiggle room for some secret herbs and spices.

It will be called out by everyone this time and the media ppl are on to the AFL they have to stop looking so corrupt.

Media will moan for a day or two and forget it.
It'll be done with us paying identical dollars to what we paid Daniher like 5-6 years ago.
Considering cap inflation etc, that's a fair ball park figure. Hope the deal is like 4 years + 2 more with triggers.

Do your secret sauce AFL, get us the player and give West Coast your priority pick under covers.

I agree we need points we'd likely trade you someone on the cheap likely say Tunstall for a early 3rd round pick,

Great marketing opportunity for KFC to sponsor the free agency period

was some mention of Harley last night on the agenda setters i think it was
Harleys manager/s saying to clubs the offers need to be min $1.5 mil plus a year and long period around 10 years to even be considered.
Was also mentioned later in the program that Cats dont sign players to long term contracts
Interesting watch and see
this is the oscar allen thread

Logan Morris' form probably makes the decision a little harder for Brisbane as they could potentially use that money elsewhere.
Morris can't ruck, neither can Hipwood. We have no greater need than a key forward who can ruck and crash packs, so there's nowhere else we'd rather be using that money. The key is whether we think we can keep Allen injury-free or not. The complicating factor isn't Morris' form, it's our inability to keep Tom Doedee healthy, since he was the last talented but injury-prone free agent we gambled on. That's looking like a mistake at the moment, so do we risk it again?
