Seems odd we don’t have one on PIA, so here it is.

All things Oscar

I think they treat them evenly or at least try too.

The papaya rules have had clumsy elements to it that have in turn favoured Norris earlier in the season in an interest to keep things even and fair. But these were mostly at Oscar's expense when he was dominant.

Oscar had pace earlier in the season with the starting package. Lando didn't (or not compared to Oscar). Mclaren worked on things to improve Lando's performance. Applying those "upgrades" that are more focused on Lando's driving style has now put Lando in the box seat for momentum and performance.

But Stella also had some reasonable comments that the last 2 races have suited Norris' driving style. And I think 3 of the next 4 suit Oscar. We shall see. Right now it looks all but gone but it only take 1 result Oscar's way to steady the ship.

For an ignorant fool like myself, is McLaren deliberately making sure that Lando wins the drivers championship?
Whilst im tempted to believe this, and many are talking about it. I think Oscar has just been off the last few races. Now he's behind, he's become the hunter and I'd still be on him for the championship. After hearing him on a podcast 4 years ago and how he answered the questions I just thought "****, this guy is next level"

If he doesn't win the championship yep then im all aboard the conspiracy theory train 🚂

the physio who looked after oscar for years and who has just returned to australia claimed that mclaren treats the two drivers equally. take of that what you will.
Given that we can literally see that that's a lie, it's a pretty stupid comment to make. (From the physio, not you)

What likelihood is there of him getting a gig as No 1 Driver elsewhere? Is it all about $ or is there hope based on talent?
Depends on what team.

I'd be surprised if he landed as the #1 driver at any of the top teams, unless, they lose someone (for instance if Max signs for Mercedes, Red Bull could be interested in him as number 1). I don't think he lands in above a LeClerc/Russell/Verstappen etc.

He could at a lesser team but then he's essentially following Ricciardo's career path and I don't think that's a particularly good idea.

That's why he will stay a year or two until it becomes clear which team is better than McLaren under the new regs-then Webber will get him out to that team imo.

Yep, piastri is looking smooth, but the lap times are just not there. I don't buy the 'low grip track' thing as he was dominant up until the last 3 race weekends.

I just think car development has moved away from him and his natural strengths

The constant.2 -.3 sec per lap difference vs lando is bizarre. No podium in 2 months after pretty much locking in either a win or 2nd every other weekend.

To completely fall so far off the pace is suss. It's not like it's just Lando, but he's struggling against the Mercs. You telling me both Kimi and George have found over half a second per lap on Oscar in race trim.

Of course hard to prove, but it smells a bit

It was scoffed at in the Brazil Thread but I raise it again here that with two competitive cars, the energy has gone into the Driver first through the door being Lando

Maybe the engineering went into his car mid season in preference to Oscar or maybe the resources in doing so neglected Oscar’s car?

As the car speed dropped the pressure has mounted and mistakes have crept in to try to claw back competitiveness

If Oscar was first through the door would we want all the energy going into his car? Absolutely.

It’s fortunate for McLaren to have won the WCC, but as it’s turned out, a nightmare having two cars in the mix for WDC

He has the talent to do it in the future, is still young, and as the saying goes he will learn from his mistakes

Been way off his game the last few races to the point where the WDC is now gone without at least one Norris DNF or some catastrophic form drop off.

Had an unbelievable opportunity to win the championship this year. Hopefully will in the future but new car regs will be a massive variable and who knows what car performance will be like next year. This is why you need to take your opportunities when you have them.
