Just logged into FriendsReunited to find that Croydon High is closing down after 66 years... I know 1 or 2 other posters on this board will be interested.

The most famous student that I knew was Andrew Obst who was such a shortarse..:p yet his sister Jenny was a better fast bowler

I found my time at CH to be interesting... so much so I wagged 1/3 of a year . It was called 'spot the aussie'' when I was there...Greeks, Italians and Yugos and then the Asian influx pushed us Anglos well down the numerical order... 2 languages were taught...Greek and Italian  and the Greek kids took Greek and the Italians...yep you guessed it ... which made a free lesson for them but for me it made it hell ...so much so I was booted out because I was slowing the clqass down...well fk me no kidding

2 things... how were your high school years...

...and is your school still around?

I enjoyed my High School years - the only thing that annoyed me was that Recess and Lunch kept on getting interrupted by subjects......:p

We pretty well played cricket or footy before school and during breaks so I suppose lessons were a good chance to rest.

I went to Rostrevor for most of my schooling and also St Augustines in Cairns for a couple of years....both still there.

My schooling was ok. I went to a small private school called Temple College at Mile End. By the time I left it had doubled in size from memory and the premises had developed a lot. Was a bit full on with the religion for me, having not grown up in an extremely religious family.

I think now they have two campuses and the school has doubled again so theyve done well from when I started 11 years ago till now.

Being in the position it is, we didnt have an oval on the school grounds, so at lunch we had to cross bakewell bridge and go to the parklands and play footy, so we mostly played basketball at recess and during summer.

My High School days were fun. Needless to say that my most looked forward to subject was PE and also loved Technical graphics :D

It wasn't until year 12 that I took on Serbian to get a better score. Positive thing was that it gave me frees during the week as the Serbian classes were on tuesdays from 5-7pm :D. It was more a catch up session than a class and many times we convinced our teacher to watch some movies during the class :D

Great times. For some reason our "gang" was the bunch of loveable larrickans as far as teachers were concerned. Always got up to plenty of mischief and generally got away with it without punishment :p

Oh and the school is still there going strong at the corner of West Terrace and Glover Avenue :p

Hey Stiff,

Were you there in Lou Vincent's time at the school?

Was unable to pick my wrong -un at school.:)
He has gone on to play international cricket, im sitting here drinking a beer.

Yeah Lou was there around 93-95. He always lacked patience and still does a bit nowadays.

Top bloke, just became a dad. Loves Farmers Union Iced Coffee....

I just looked through the one of the School Books and there was a Lou Vincent. I remember the face now. He was our cricket captain IIRC. Not that I follow or know anything about cricket.

Oh and RosterLad, I reckon you might recognise one of the lads in the pictures that I will post shortly. He played for North Adelaide a couple of years back. Don't think me made a league debut but IIRC he played a few games in the reserves.

Are you going to post a picture of Gerald Cornelius? I work with his mum would you believe!!

You must have known Matty Black as well Stiff. Big deaf fellah, who coached the U16 footy teams and went to school there too.

As promised a couple of pictures from the year book.

Is this the Lou Vincent the Kiwi cricketer??

RooserLad, do you know the lad to Lou's right? He used to play for the roosters.

And another one...

Yeah I was talking about Gerald. He was our best footballer :p He hanged around with Jeremy, the twins (David and Matt) etc...

Matt Black is another name that sounds familiar. I am sure I would recognise the face if I came across him.

Don't forget Tony Smith. Once one of Australia's 10 most wanted. Now serving 20 odd years in Yatala.

Yeah, Tony was in my technical graphics class with Mr Apostolopolous in year 10. When he rocked up to schooled he used to hang out with Garry Hayder (sp?). Always got along well with him but everyone knew he was up to no good.

Exceptional athlete though. I remember him cleaning up on sports days and especially in swimming carnivals. Might explain how he got away from the cops handcuffed :p

Gerald and Lou both played out at Prospect. Lou has gone on with it quite well.

David and Matt.... Loveder?
Am I on the right track. They along with Gerald coached the footy sides for awhile after finishing school.

Good to see some AHS people here.:)

Yep they are the ones.

Couple of good lads :thumbsu:

Anyone know what they are up to now?! Ran into Gerald a while back at the Lion but haven't seen the twins around pretty much since high school.

I thought Gerald would have taken the next step with his cricket or football but didn't.

Damn Adelaide High students, had to play against em in soccer one day. Mid game we caught a kid trying to nick stuff out of our bags. And we lost narrowly.

Maybe we should change the name of this thread to OT: Adelaide High Reunion :P I was there during the years mentioned too and also know all the names that have been mentioned on here, what a blast from the past to hear all those names and to see those faces from the cricket team.

Ironically, did you know that Tony Smith actually got into Law at uni and then got up to no good again and ended up where he currently resides.

I don't blame Croydon for closing. I knew a girl that worked there and she said half the time students didn't turn up, and the other half the students were off their heads.

For mine; I quite enjoyed high school. I had a lovely time. Got along with everyone, even most of the teachers  Our whole year level got along for some reason...don't really know why though

And yes my school is still around. I was considering going for a visit at the end of the year for an end of school mass, however I will be in Vietnam and can't attend. :p

Ah the irony :D :p

I never would have guessed that there are so many people from AHS around here :thumbsu:

EDIT: Anyone remember those surveys that SRC always handed out to students for the School Book?! One year there was a question "Who is the most likely student to appear on Australia's Most Wanted?" Needless to say about 90% of students nominated Tony Smith :p

Will be going to the school reunion on the 8/12/2006 (not sure why on earth you would have it at 1-4pm on a Friday but gives me chance to take time off work). Which years were you there, PerthCrow. I was there from 1974-1978. 1974 was the first year it went from a Technical High School (boys and girls were separated) to a High School. Some memorable times and now its disappointing to see it close given my primary school, Croydon Primary, also closed a few years ago.
