It has been a frustrating year with the injuries and the weekly changes, but I smell a positive amongst the below par start to the year.

I am talking about 'weeding out' the players who are not up to it from the players we must persist with.

I am convinced that Steele, Beams, Dick, Wellingham and Wood have all shown that they must be in our 22.
That would make our side look something like:

N. Brown, Presti, Shaw
Marty, Maxwell, Harry
O'bree, Swan, Davis
Josh, Tarkyn, Pendles
Didak, Medurst, Thomas
Anthony, Rocca, Cloke
Wellingham, Dick, Wood, Steele

Beams and Goldsack unlucky, but get to be emergencies.

Personally, I would be happy with replacing Rocca with beams, as i feel with Didak and Medurst fit, we will create plenty of goals.
I would love to see our side looking like this, I have given up on Leigh Brown and Cox. Toovey is ok, but he is taking Steele or Beams' spot, and they must get game time.

Wellingham and Dick have the pace that we need, and Wood for L. Brown is a no brainer.

What do you guys think our 22 should be?

I thought you said Beams must be in our best 22 but then you've gone and put him in emergencies. lol
I'd find it hard to say both Steele and Beams make our top 22.
Going on this year:
1. Davis
2. Didak
3. Maxwell
4. Medhurst
5. O'brien
6. Anthony
7. Pendles
8. O'bree
9. Thomas
10. N Brown
11. Beams
12. Clarke
13. Wood
14. Wellingham
15. Lockyer
16. Fraser
17. Cloke
18. Dick
19. Presti
20. Swan
21. Shaw
22. Barham

But i'd like Dawes, Rusling, Mccarthy all in there.

Rusling would easily be in our best 22 hes a gun but he keeps getting injured. What i saw of last year DAwes looked alright giove him abiut fo time and he will be alright.

Is that in order or just randomly??
Because it better be random!

Yeah i like that !
I recon we should give Dawes some games because Rocca probably wont be around next year.
So replace Rocca with Dawes

I reckon we've seen the end of Rocca.
Unless we get more injuries i don't think he should return. Not in our best 22 anymore imo

B: N. Brown, Presti, Shaw

R: Josh, Davis, Pendles
HF: Didak, Cloke, Tarks
F: Dick,Anthony , Medhurst
IC: Toovey, Wood, Sidebottom, Beams,Rocca,McCarthy,Wellingham,Cox, Reid
Thats what I'd have as the ideal bunch for the year. Dawes being a possiblity to slot in if he can find consistant good VFL form and add some real dominate games. To date his had 2 good to dominate games at VFL level amongst a bunch of not so good to rubbish games.

I have picked a pretty extended bench but I think given the age and inexperince of some of the young guys as well as the injury worries that we have had early this year it is unrealistic to expect the same bunch to run out week in week out. Form will alter as does avalibility.

I think that best 18 is pretty on the park is pretty no brainer. I'd like to see Wood given every oppertunity for the rest of the year to make the spot his own.

B: Harry O'Brien, Simon Prestigiacomo, Nick Maxwell
HB: Heath Shaw, Nathan Brown, Marty Clarke
C: John McCarthy, Scott Pendlebury, Steele Sidebottom
HF: Alan Didak, Travis Cloke, Dale Thomas
FF: Paul Medhurst, John Anthony, Sean Rusling
Foll: Josh Fraser, Leon Davis, Dane Swan
INT: Cameron Wood, Dayne Beams, Tarkyn Lockyer, Shane Obree

EMG: Wellingham, Dick, Toovey, Rocca.

That's what I think our best 22 is.

I like your list, except I have never seen McCarthy play, so for that reason I'd have to put Toovey in as a tagger.

The next 3 players that I think should be emergencies and are part of our future are Macaffer, Reid, and McCarthy (from what I hear).

I dont rate Wellingham very well, and Dick even less (I didnt see the West Coast game, but one match doesnt make you a good enough player, remember McGough)

Pretty bloody close IMO. Toovey is unlucky....McCarthy isn't in the best 22 yet.

Thomas more a defender/quarterback these days but that's just trivial.

Yep, I like that team

Dick has had 2 fantastic games out of 3 this year, Round 1 and Round 9.
The round 2 Geelong game, the only game he couldn't get into, was because Geelong don't stuff around, they get the ball out of their defence faster than anyone.
This made Dick seem futile that day, because his biggest asset is his tackling/pressure in the forward line.

McCarthy would be in our 22 if he was fit.

Let's all hope MM has seen the light and drops L. Brown and sticks with Wood and Dick.

If we want to look at this as a 22 for 2011 and beyond I think it would look like this:

----Shaw----N Brown----O'Brien----
----Blight------Reid------Lockyer---

----Davis----McCarthy---Thomas---
----Wood-----Pendles----Beams----

----Didak------Cloke------Swan----
----Dick------Anthony---Medhurst--

Int: Fraser, Maxwell, Sidebottom, Clarke

* I didn't include Rusling because he is too much of an intangible.

Lockyer and Fraser would be getting on but I think will still be around and playing good quality footy.

B: Harry O'Brien, Simon Prestigiacomo, Nick Maxwell
HB: Heath Shaw, Nathan Brown, Marty Clarke
C: John McCarthy, Scott Pendlebury, Steele Sidebottom
HF: Alan Didak, Travis Cloke, Dale Thomas

Thats spot on.

Against Port we had:

B: Maxwell Presti O'Brien
HB: Shaw N.Brown Clarke
C: Wellingham Swan O'Bree
HF: Didak Lockyer Thomas
F: Dick Anthony L Brown
R: Fraser Davis Pendlebury
INT: Wood Sidebottom Toovey Cox

Medhurst would have to replace Toovey for mine.
Now the question MM is asking himself is "do we give an O'Bree or Lockyer a rest?"
Beams clearly needs more AFL game time and who better than against Melbourne, Cloke has a game in the 2's the next week and we don't need L. Brown, there is no way MM can go back to having all of L. Brown, Cloke and Rocca in the side, we are clearly a better side with 2 actual ruckmen and Cloke must be our CHF.

So L. Brown has to play another blinder against Melbourne and hope Cloke and Rocca have horrible games in the VFL in the following 2 weeks to hold his position.

Ben Johnson will come back threw the VFL and will eventually take one of the teenagers positions. So the game is on, Beams vs Steele, they are both playing for the one spot and we will truely see which one is prepared to goto the next level.

Much happier I am when we don't have a bucket full of injuries.

So Nathe's 22 against Melbourne is:

B: Maxwell Presti O'Brien
HB: Shaw N.Brown Clarke
C: Wellingham Swan O'Bree
HF: Didak Beams Thomas
F: Dick Anthony Medurst
R: Fraser Davis Pendlebury
INT: Wood Sidebottom L. Brown Cox
