if you have our future in mine you have to play gumby, he is arguably our most promising kid. i would probably take out monfries or maybe pears and put gumbelton in. would really try to find a place for jetta and hislop too.

It was just so hard to pick the team with both injuries, age etc. all in the equation so I went with the tested players of whom we KNOW are servicable.
In regards to Jetta, IMO he seems our best option when it comes to trading for picks later in the year.

I agree almost completly with loopy cam, except for the fact that Neagle should be in here somewhere. Not sure for who, but definately deserves to be in there. Main reason i agree with his team is he has Dempsey and Hocking in there. Given injury free periods and time to show themselves, they'll prove to be in our best 18.

Wish the two could be consistant. They are exciting when on their games.
The fact that we have having trouble squeezing quality players in our team is a good sign for the future guys! I am confident that we will grow to a top 4 team in a few years even when Lucas, Lloyd, Michael and Fletcher leave.

I think that's what our best 22 looks like. But if I was to choose what team i'd want out there playing each week, there'd be a few additions to the team such as Gumbleton, Pears, Hislop and Jetta.

Apologies for my newbness. Just wondering about Tayte Pears. Saw him here in the Adelaide game a few weeks ago, seems to have a fairly cool head under pressure and is a good size for a young kid. From those that have seen some Bendigo games, is he being given big jobs in the 2's? and if so, do you think its time Knighta chucked him in the deep end in the seniors? Not wanting the second coming of Zac Dawson, but just thinking towards Paddy's development as a ruckman.

It's not exactly a relevant thing to nail down anyway, but it'd be similar to that. Really need another small defender to put a bit of pressure on Slats, would rather keep Reimers further up the ground or forward. Other than that, a mid-sized player who can play both ends would be useful & someone putting pressure on Laycock, and we'd be pretty well set for depth.

I am glad that none on you are essendon selectors!

For those who dont rate stanton, watch how much he runs. no body bust thier balls to run like him and give options. Skill level is improving and takes the best tagger from every side every week. Which frees up players like McViegh, Lonergan, Riemers, Watson, Houli.

As much as i love him, I dont think Rama is in our best 22. I dont think Dempsey is a walk in either, although he is exciting. Neagle, Lucas, llyod, Mcphee are our best tall options forward. With McPhee playing the hit up forward. Jetta, Monfries, Riemers, Davey rotating off wings through the pockets to give us options. Monfries is nearly our most improved this year.

Play Lovett across the half back line and rotate him through the middle with houli, Nash and Stanton. I think Welsh has found a new lease of life in the middle as a tagger.

NLM to fill gaps in the defence. Myers to create run from defence, Laycock to get a game as he needs time. (time that we gave to David Hille and look how much that is paying off)

Hislop (when fit)& Hocking (when fit) will work into the midfield rotation, Gumbleton (when fit) will be our CHB, Pears to move into Half back line in the future (probably at the expense of NLM). I think the time has come for Winders to go, Shown heaps of promise, but injury plauged. reminds me of joel reynolds. I know that most wont agree...

Essendon fans were recently asked to name their best 22, assuming the entire list was fit and available for selection. The results have now been compiled and they make for some interesting reading.


A total of 1011 Essendon supporters selected teams. The position most dominated by the one person was the ruck with David Hille collecting 972 nominations. A number of younger players made the final 22, including Bachar Houli, Courtenay Dempsey, Jay Neagle, Sam Lonergan, Leroy Jetta and Kyle Reimers.
