It seems to be debated quite a lot even talk of trading one of these 3 and most seem to have their own favourite it would be interesting to know who is seen as the standout backman at Richmond to play as a KP.

My vote will go with Luke McGuane the reasoning for this is he rarely gets beaten, has the pace to go with the quicker full forwards and although it doesn't look like it he has the strength too. He is a fantastic tackler as you see with most boys drafted out of QLD. The other thing I love about McGuanes approach to the game is he cares so much, as we saw with the punch on the weekend his tempremate could probably do with tinkering but he is the one that will do the job in the years to come imo.

So who is it going to be? McGuane/Moore/Thursfield

Three different players.

I went Moore because he can play small and tall and is the most versatile. He is also attacking and creates.

Thursfield is a pure defender that can play like a glove... very disciplined etc...

Mcgaune is the flashy aerial player that looks great. Work rates is great.

Really hard to split them and hopefully we wont have to. But they will be head hunted.... so I expect us to loose one.

had to go with moore. imo all three are quality in the roles that they play. need them all to stay together. premiership's are built from this line.

thursfield is the best by a long margin. moore is grossly overrated. mcguane uis hopeless and i dont know how he get a game. how many clangers and frees must he concede before people wake up. tigers got one of the worse defense in the comp, conceding 100 points a game because they dont have proper key backs.

I don't understand why people think these 3 compliment each other. I see 3 of pretty much the same KP defender. All undersized (as in weight not height) and more suited to 3rd tall defensive duties in my opinion. Moore should be pushed out of KP duties to maximise his running game. McGuane it seems is the best at the one-on-one roles so he is probably our best key defender at the moment. However his kicking and decision making brings him down quite a bit, so I'd look to move him on in time. Thursfield needs to improve to get back into the 22, he doesn't have the body to play FB, and if he is going to make it as a third tall he needs to have an offensive game. Can't just be a spoiler of 3rd talls. He certainly has skills and poise so he may make it.

Overall I want to see bigger bodies playing on the opposition key forwards, and while people think we have 3 good key defenders, I don't want any of them playing key defense going forward. Need Rance and Post to come on.

Watched last weeks game again and damn I was impressed with McGuane. Beat Mooney in most contests but more importantly work hard up the ground and took some intercepting marks up on the wing. I have never seen Thusty do this. McGuane skills are better then most think too.

In saying this Moore and Thusty are very good defenders, but Rance could be the best of the lot

We concede 100 points because of our lack of midfield pressure against Carlton and then against Geelong they just got the 100 points and they basically get 100 points every game.

We are coming up against another high scoring side this week hopefully we can keep them below that margin.

McGuane gets a lot of 1%s Krustyman too sure he gives a few FKs although I dont remember any this year beside the punch.

They are all so close. Based on the start of this year McGuane. He and Moore are very similar. Both are good at beating their man and they give us run. As someone else said, Thursty wears his man like a glove but gives no run. IMO he is still in out best 22.

I would have to say the ginger ninja Kel. Very impressed with the way his body is coming along after seeing him preseason at training (looking much bulkier) and I have more faith in him at crucial moments rather than the others... Plus the club obviously have faith since putting him on the leadership team.

I went for Moore just over McGuane but other than that and the opinion that McGuane's kicking and decision-making are better than they look, I pretty much agree with everything beaver wrote. If Rance and Post take the key spots Moore will be a very handy accountable and rebounding 3rd tall and McGuane can get us a juicy GC pick.

Probably Moore ATM, but McGuane may well be considered clearly the best by the end of the season and Rance will be in the mix over the next couple of years at this rate.

The most pleasing thing is that NONE of them have even played 50 games yet, so there is hopefully a fair bit of improvement to come, perhaps less from Moore because he's older.

McGuane is barely 22 and has only played 34 games.

your kidding, he was a tank last year. he must be massive now if you really think he has added muscel. oh and back to the poll, it depends what aspect. stoping goals, spoiling, running off your man to help someone else out, kicking, getting out of trouble and making advantage ect. but have to say thursfield because he can stop the best forwards and keep them quiet.
