Two top 5 picks (3 inside the top 20). Much better than pick 8 and 26.

I say this because I don't rate the list and believe for all the apparent improvement we have made this year, injuries to Simmonds, Richardson and Brown next year will put us bottom 4.

Spot on the money.

Our list is on the verge of being to young - Who's supposed to lead the young blokes next year if these three blokes dont fire or succumb to injury?

Let me gaze into my crystal ball...... round 20 2009 we sit outside the finals waiting for someone else to lose so we can slip into eighth and everyone is blaming injuries and poor form to Richo, Simonds and Co. as to the reason we don't play finals.

Accepting 9th is DUMB.:thumbsd:

Trade early picks for a couple of gun players to teach the kids and build a winning culture. Eighth and up will come as a result:)

In the words of John Worsfold.....

WINNING IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN DRAFT PICKS!!!!!!!!

Shock horror, a side that doesn't make the 8 this season will be bottom four next season if their three most important players go down.

WCE have proved that if you lose two of your most important players its over, so obviously this is not that astute an observation

The fact that our 3 most important players are over 30 is the damning fact. We still don't have players coming up to replace them. We aren't even close to replacing Simmonds, Richardson at least has Riewoldt coming in and Brown has nothing either. Pretty pathetic.

WCE realised they needed a fresh injection of talent and tanked the **** out of this year. They know what it takes to be a top side. Look for them to bounce back pretty soon and overtake the tigers.

I deal with reality. I am not going to blindly support my club when I think it should be doing better. The only thing I blindly support are my family and the cho.

You deal with your version of reality others version of reality is the improvemnet in position from 16'th to 10'th. At the moment no team has won a premiership through tanking not one , You cant stay at the bottom and get all the priority picks then catapult to the top. Where are Carlton at the moment , they have improved but 4 years of low picks has given them 12'th position nothing more.

At some point you have to climb the ladder, why not now.

Well my version seems to have been more realistic over the past couple of years than most of the people here.

Regarding tanking not winning a premiership, I guess you are limiting your teams that tank to Carlton and St.Kilda. Hawthorn tanked 2005 & 2006, Collingwood 2005, North Melbourne 2006. Those sides don't seem to be doing too badly.

Regarding St.Kilda, well it can be strongly argued that if they had their best 22 or even close to it from 2004-2006 they would have been more then likely to win a premiership.

Yes we have to come up the ladder eventually, but premature ladder rises only set us back as we think we are closer than we really are and our draft position is much weaker.

Look at West Coast now. They are in major tank mode and have been for a while now. They know what it takes to build a premiership list, and are on their way to doing that.

For all our "improvement" this year, the fact is we have had a dream run with injuries and a favourable draw concerning interstate matches. Richardson, Brown and Simmonds are still our three most important players, and all are in their twilight.

Where are the premierships in your list, Hawthorn hasnt won one yet, Neither has Collingwood, or North. So as of yet no one has won a premiership by tanking. Realistically speaking Geelong have this year in the bag so that isnt going to change.

As I said this is just your opinion , nothing more nothing less, worth no more than mine but no matter what until something actually happens it is not a fact or reality.

:)

Obviously the list isn't the only part of the equation. St.Kilda had the list, but didn't have the cattle on the park. If you want to think tanking doesn't help because there isn't a bonofide and apparent example of tanking leading to a premiership go ahead.

Pick 1, Pick 2/3/4 and Pick 18 would have greatly helped us develop our list.

Wherever the Tigers finish this season will act as a the foundation and also a springboard for the future.

Make no mistake, this has been a great season for the Tigers.
Provided we win next week, it'll be over 11 wins for the season, which is a fantastic result.

It was planned by TW for us to be in this position after the 4th year of his plan, and again it proves that the well constructed vision implemented at the beginninging of this Wallace perios is paying off.

Well done to TW for delivering as promised - the patience he has taught the Richmond football club will enable it to plan and embark on a period of long term, sustained success :thumbsu:

As would the fact that we loose a major sponsor this year and no company continually wants to be associated with a loser. Members drop off and we end up as a basket case both on and off the field. Tanking doesn't grantee anything

Yup there are certainly negatives to it. Perhaps tanking really wasn't an option this year because of that reason, but certainly 2005, 2006, 2007 should have been the building years, but alas we went for the wins to appease the ferals.

So what you are saying is a short term eighth is better than long term misery. Short term pain, long term gain. If we trade our early picks this year we will make finals next year, but then plunge back down to the depths of the bottom four.

There is no such thing as a too young team. If our old blokes do succumb to injury we have leaders such as Newman, Foley and Deledio.

So to Mr. Hypocrite (TigerTom), I would rather accept a ninth next year than an eighth and bottom four after that.

I wouldn't think 5 years of rebuilding the list is short term is it?

In five years when our now 21 year olds are 26 and still learning to play the game we will have missed the boat as StKilda did.

An apprentice will not become a tradesman unless he is taught by tradesman will he?
