Obviously as I said the tagging or "different" role is HUGELY overated...your saying "lets not waste a talented player in that role" (Shirley would grimace if he heard that)

Dont put words in my mouth, thats the first sign of someone snatching at straws. I view tagger as an incredibly valuable role, one which is of great importance to the team. Taggers might not be your most talented player, but they are one of the most important to the team. I think Van Berlo has the talent to be a great attacking midfielder, and i would want to see him play that role, that doesnt take anything away from those who play in a negating role, it takes both sorts.

Have to be a bit better than to try and trap me like that ;)

Those are possession stats....one dimensional POV DT

Yes the offensive stats show Shirley to be a higher possession winner than Baker BUT.....

1. Whats the stats of their opponents effectiveness? (in otherwords how successful were each of them in stopping their opponents)....not available ha? ... well give me their respective B&F figures then!

2. Doesn't measure hurt factor with their possessions.

I said Baker is a better tagger!

Next batter :D

Mate you did also say this

Baker is a tighter tagger and has a bigger offensive game than Shirley.

Yep as in hurt factor with his possessions not qty...there is a subtle difference

I was going to say that it would be a difficult choice, ... then I realised you lot were not talking about this board. :p
What a bloomin waste of a good joke.
That's it, I'll pack up and take me rod somewhere else. :)

can you objectively quantify bakers superior hurt factor?
No!...just from what I've seen ;)

would you accept then, that the coaching staff who pick shirley every week, and have done so for quite some time now, also like what they see? :D
Or the alternative POV the coaching staff like what they see from what is available on the list at that point in time.

As that list changes maybe so does potential choices for positions.

This is also influenced by potential changes in gameplan :D (example: Bock being left out V Bulldogs)

Not at all. You were painted into a corner by your own erroneous claim. :D

By the way, are you still sticking to your story that the Leyland P76 was the best car ever made?? ;) :p

Did you not scroll down past the first few stats?

Disposals: 16.2 > 14.3 - Shirley
Tackles: 3.8 > 2.8 - Shirley
Goals: 0.2 < 0.3 - Baker
First Possessions: 3.9 > 1.2 - Shirley
Clearances: 1.3 > 1.2 - Shirley
Inside 50s: 1.6 > 1.3 - Shirley
Rebound 50s: 0.6 < 2.6 - Baker
Contested Possessions: 2.3 > 1.2 - Shirley
1%ers: 2.9 > 1.4 - Shirley

As others have pointed out, you have argued that Baker is not only a better tagger than Shirley, but also has a greater hurt factor offensively.

The statistical evidence - not just in raw possessions but in categories such as clearances, inside-50s, first possessions, tackles, contested possessions and one-percenters - shows this clearly isn't the case, with Shirley in front in each.

Interestingly, the only category where Baker has a clear lead over Shirley is in rebound-50s, which would suggest he lags around halfback hunting for cheap kicks while Shirley is actually in the guts where it matters.

Just concede WW.

every week ;)

but if you have to resort to the nth possibility in bizarro world, the only question is why you need to hang on so tight to this? you're becoming comedy on this subject, which for reference - you are not the 'one' who sees clearly about.
