Everyone's talking about the players and what happened on game day yesterday, but something else happened on game day yesterday. Our poor excuse for a cheer squad had less numbers than that of Geelong's.

I think we can all agree our cheersquad are pathetic and at least 80% of them need to be moved on. They're lacking voice, energy, and there's too many high aged members there that are just there for the seats.

I remember back in 2011 i sat there, not the first time either, i've sat there a lot of times, i remember one saying "i'm just here for the grand final tickets". That just shows not only does that person care to do anything but most likely a lot do, which is why the club most likely pissed them off from doing banners.

I think it's time we bring in some youth and piss off the ones who don't want to do anything, because right now we're the worst in the league.

Our cheer squad should have gone along with the making the banners. The cheersquad is a privlage not a right.

Well the pie fans turned up! Out of the 63,000 50,000 were Collingwood fans. It was the cats fans that did not show. But cats fans don't really go to away games especially night games cos it will take them over 1 hour drive to get home.

Unless you are providing a game day experience for kids and younger fans than throw the whole thing out the window and give the only decent seats on the bottom level of the Ponsford stand to Legends Members in a random draft.

We should get all out junior members to be in the cheers squad! I remember in 2003 we had the biggest cheersquad in the afl with 10,000 now we only have 100!! And this is from the biggest club in Australia

Don't worry, I agree entirely, my old man tells me stories about when he used to go to the footy as a kid (in the 60's) and he'd be in the cheersquad full of kids protected by a handful of adults.

I think 50,000 is pushing it. We definitely had twice as many as them. I'd say realistically more like 20K Cats fans, 43K Pies fans.

I think they were all night games. But seriously how many Geelong fans turn up to their games every week anyway? I'd say they'd be getting around 20-25,000 at most each week. That's just their supporter base, whether at MCG or in Geelong.

Cheer squad isn't the problem it's the lack of fans turning up to the game. 70k members with 63k there last night is piss poor. We had high 70 to 90k just 2-3 years ago. The long slow Collinggggwooooddd chant will never get going with 63k. Pathetic

When we were flying 2007 2010 2011 is the highest crowds. All 84k plus. Interesting.

Same could be said about Geelong.

Its not the same anymore with variable ticket pricing among a few other things. Friday night games are usually going to be higher in attendance anyway I would have thought.

Well either way let's say 45,000 anyway still a great turnout from pie fans. Anything under 40,000 pies fans to a home game is pretty poor.

Next week against Richmond being an away game for us will get 30-35,000 Collingwood fans. Or home games this year will average 40-45,000 unless we are top 4 then we will be average 45-50,000 Collingwood fans to our home games and in real big games we would get 50-55,000 pie fans against fellow top teams like hawks, cats, dockers ect.

Our cheersquad finally died on elimination final night last year, when Port Adelaide's cheersquad, of all teams, out-cheered ours.

Granted, our players weren't exactly playing footy that gets you excited, but that's what cheersquads are supposed to be about, getting the crowd up even when things aren't going your way and maybe lifting the side with it.

Look at Richmond's cheersquad. Look at Hawthorn's. And then compare it ours. Utterly embarrassing.

But hey, how 'bout those dancers, eh? Didn't you just FEEL the energy PUMPING through you? Wasn't your match day experience just so ENHANCED by them?

You are right!

The feeling of going to the footy and being in a cheer squad when you are young is what it's all about and not having a bunch of goof heads sticking their fingers up every two seconds at someone from the other team.
I know it's football but overall I am not a massive fan of watching the way the cheersquad carry themselves during games and a lot of then really sum up the stereotypical Collingwood supporter.

I say make the bay a non drinking area bring in the children that are members of the package formally known as Buckleys Brigade along with their parents. It creates passion from a young age and possibly increase membership sales.
