Suddenly it's looking like there's some light at the end of the tunnel. If Polak becomes a gun backman and plays tall in defence we're definitely going to get a lot more out of P and J Bowden in this area. IF Will Thursfield continues his early form which is going to be very difficult after a knee reco then we're suddenly looking very solid in defence. (a lot of Ifs though)

Furthermore there's the fringe players. As much as I hate Ray Hall he can be a pretty decent 3rd tall if need be and we could probably get what we need out of him. (As long as we he keeps me to no more then 1-2 swearing fits during a game I'll be content).

Gaspar can hold down defensive role too, I still hold this faith. He'll never get his AA form back but if he can hold down the odd forward we're going to get what we need from him. Hopefully his conditioning and overall fitness improve over the summer. Maybe some kicking practice too.

Shulzy can also play the CHB role and this can give Polak the run up forward. We've also got the unknown in Jackson and Moore. Can they play a role in defence too?

And of course have Newman who's great as a small backman and can cover the Farmer type players plus give us some legs out of defence.

I was iffy about giving away pick 8 but now I'll a lot happier once I've thought about how Polak can possibly change the structure.

polak is a dud!.

Mate you have nothing constructive to say about him, no one cares you have made your point on almost every polak thread, he hasent played a game for us yet so dont be so prejudice, as some said he has got talent to burn, looking forward to next year already

Polak will turn the corner. A change of scenery will help him concentrate on football rather than hanging out at skate parks with nuff nuff's.

Still too many IF's.

However, at least we can see that we are heading somewhere in terms of structure. I dont think Schulz will ever make it as a KP backman. It doesnt seem his forte.

I still think Thursty's the big one. He'll make a massive difference in a few years.

not only that, but to go with stating "polak is a dud" he continues to show that he has SFA idea what his talking about, an inability to construct a proper argument and use english properly, and been made to look like an idiot

Yeah got to swap Polak and Shulz in the former post. Polak's form dipped when Connolly had another brain fart and decided his best key backman would make a great key forward. Then he thought his best ruck (Simmonds) could make it as a key forward. Anything to let the teams best forward (Pavlich) play a free role through the middle. Polak has to play back. Lot's of chb types can't go forward- Croad, McPharlin, Cornes, Miller, Mcphee. Maybe it's not so much that they can't play forward but they certainly offer the side much more down back. Polak is in this category.

Thursfield is coming back from major injury so 2007 will be a recovery year and trying to get some form.

Ditto Newman and I don't think he's actually been able to shut down the premier small forwards. His best year was AA but I've been a little underwhelmed since then. Hope he steps up and perhaps should've been pinch hitting in the midfield by now.

Gaspar? Well you just don't know. Except his kicking isn't going to improve now at his age.

Rayzor, how do you say it, omg! Nah he needs to get really mean and be the enforcer, all elbows, hard bumps, tackles and jumper punches.

If Polak plays CHB then this is where benefit will come from, big body, some skills. Also frees up the Bowden sisters. Joel not having to take the opposition CHF.

good comeback mate, i dont know why some people think Polak is so amazing? hes hardly done anything.

he will play CHB and only ther to try and improve. lest just hope he does

He had a very good first two seasons. Then he got off track, too much time in the shed out back and not enough time on the footy field. The kid has talent to burn, is only 22. He still has to prove it on the field, but he is far from a dud.

Just hpe that terry does what he does best and gets the most out of him.

2007 Backline:

B: Raines - Gasper - Thursfeild

HB: J. Bowden - Polak - Johnson

Others That Can Go Through:
Newman
Polo
P. Bowden
JON
Hartigan
Hall
White
Howat

Alot of Depth there. Also in other posistion because most of those players can play other positions.

I completely forgot about Hartigan. He's tough and can give us some grit down back. I hope Richmond give him some good game time next year.

The one thing I do hope from the introduction of Polak is I will not have to witness Ray hall playing anymore.

people forget how good gaspar played when hall was injured

played well on neitz, hall etc but his time is up end of next yr

our defence isnt THAT bad, our midifeld just plain sucks

When you think about it, our defence had a lot of pressure put onto them this year and stood up quite well.

With Joel Bowden as the key defender, thats really saying something. Joel Bowden and Patrick Bowden probably didnt get enough recognition considering how well the kept the opposition (aswell as our other defenders, but those two in particular).

Spot on.

* Polak to develop into the leagues AA CHB.
* J Bowden to be released to a HBF
* One of Moore or Thusty to come good as future FB
* JON 3rd defender
