as excited as I am (lets face it, we r*ped this draft for talls) lets not forget these guys are young, big, kids. Usually takes them a little longer to come on

We need to give them time to develop

Don't forget about Casboult

Let us not forget about Levi...

Another 198cm tall FF type who was starting to come on nicely in the Ants at the end of last season. I reckon that he is going to get a couple of games next year for the seniors :)

I know when we say FUTURE spine that we are looking at our youngest key position players. However, don't forget that Jamison isn't exactly old either. I could see Jamison at FB and Watson at CHB, with Bower and McCarthy as extra talls who can both also give us some drive out of the backline. Up forward we have Henderson at CHF and Mitchell or Casboult at FF. Add guys like Gibbs, Murphy, Lucas, etc in the midfield and Kreuzer in the ruck, and we really do have one hell of a good young core to build around.

Essendon supporters probably thought the same thing about

Pears
Hurley
Watson
Gumbleton
Neagle

Baby steps before we get carried away.

Is it possible that Jammo could add further strings to his bow and branch out into a more roving defensive role. .. His kicking is solid, I could see him doing a similar job to Russell if he is released some of the new KPPs mature. ..

Yeah, I guess that could work. I was just going from the feeling I get about these guys. Of the four talls (Jamison, Watson, Bower and McCarthy), I just get the feeling that Jamison and Watson are better suited to holding down key posts. Bower and McCarthy seem to be better suited to playing as that extra tall, rebounding the ball out of the defensive 50.

Who knows though... I'm not Ratten and I don't pick the team. I guess we will have to see what lineups the team goes with over the next few years as guys like Watson and McCarthy develop and become full-time senior players.

It can happen though... Reid, N.Brown and Dawes were our first 3 picks in the '06 draft.

But two of those picks were top 15 picks in an uncomprimised draft. The reality is while there's a possiblity we've done quite well, until these kids actually perform when it counts it means squat.

Ignore Parrot.

In my opinion if just one of the three talls we recruited developed into a quality AFL player then the recruiters will have done their job. Anything more than that would be a bonus, anything less than that would be a depressing failure.

Agree, if just one of out new recruits becomes a quality player then we are winners.
